Chapter 68: – “Goodbye, But Not the End”
The sky over HeroCity was overcast that late afternoon.
The International Airport buzzed with the hurried steps of civilians and surveillance aircraft. Yet amidst the chaos of the hero city, there was a small bubble of silence. A group of young people — five figures who had changed the course of the world — walked side by side, their faces serious, their hearts heavy.
Eliara Myne, daughter of the President of the United States and bearer of the Human Singularity, was about to leave.
— "Does it really have to be now?" Ryu asked, hands in his pockets, looking somber.
— "Yes…" Eliara replied, trying to smile. "If I stay much longer, the US government will think I've been kidnapped again. And well... I don't think an international incident looks great on a hero résumé."
Abby was the first to hug her, giving a forced smile.
— "Take care, princess. Next time, I'll be the one to save you."
— "I'd like to see you try," Eliara replied, hugging her tightly.
Annie was next, eyes glassy but pride shining on her face.
— "You're strong, Eliara. Stronger than you think. But if you're gonna cry... cry with style."
They both laughed. Then Eliara turned to Ryan. He took a deep breath.
— "Thanks for trusting us."
— "I trusted you because I saw who you are. Especially you, Ryan... You're not just the Reversum boy. You're a true hero."
Ryan tried to respond, but his throat tightened. He simply nodded, holding back tears.
The sound of elegant shoes echoed. A tall man with gray hair, a pristine suit, and an austere expression approached. Two agents flanked him. It was Thomas Myne, President of the United States.
— "These are the young heroes?" he asked, surveying them.
— "Yes, father. They saved my life."
The president looked over Ethan, Ryu, Ryan, Annie, and Abby. His stern expression softened.
— "On behalf of my family... and my country, thank you. You protected what I love most."
He shook each of their hands, firm and respectful. When he reached Ethan, he paused slightly longer.
— "Stormbreak… you have your father's eyes. But your light is your own."
Ethan, unsure of what to say, simply nodded respectfully.
The flight announcement echoed through the terminal.
Eliara turned to Ethan.
The world seemed to fall silent around them.
— "Walk me to the gate?" she asked.
Ethan followed her to a balcony overlooking the skies she would soon cross.
They stood there for a moment, wordless. Only the wind and distant engines filled the space between them.
Then, Ethan pulled something from his pocket.
A silver and blue bracelet, etched with an ancient thunder symbol. A relic that pulsed faintly, as if alive.
— "My dad gave me this when I was a kid. It's made from Nionderland metal. He said… it kept fear away."
Eliara took it, hands trembling.
— "You're giving this to me?"
— "Every time you look at it, remember you're never alone. Not here... not across the ocean."
She hugged him tightly, eyes wet.
— "Thank you. For making me feel... alive."
Ethan hesitated. Then, heart racing, he touched his forehead to hers.
— "I'll wait for you. No matter how long it takes."
Eliara smiled through tears and kissed his cheek.
— "I'll come back. For you."
She stepped away slowly, walking toward the presidential aircraft. Before boarding, she turned one last time.
— "You're my family now. Never forget that!"
They all waved. Abby cried. Annie held back emotion. Ryan whispered:
— "Fly safe…"
The aircraft took off.
From inside, Eliara looked at the bracelet on her wrist. Its light glowed... like a promise.
Ethan watched the sky until the last glimpse of the jet vanished.
— "Come on, Ethan," Ryan said with a soft smile.
— "She'll come back. And she'll be stronger."
Ethan looked at his friends… and nodded.
🌌 Epilogue: A Silent Sky
Later that night, Ethan stared at the stars.
Ryan approached, hands in his pockets.
— "You alright?"
— "No…" Ethan replied, eyes on the sky. "But I will be."
Ryan looked up too. Quiet.
— "We'll fight until she can return — free and strong. Not just her… all of us."
Ethan nodded.
— "I know, bro. We're gonna break our limits, right?"
Ryan: — "Count on it, man."
