Chapter 1356: Destined Enemies
In a burst of multicolored flames, Zhen Liu launched himself towarss Dante like a rocket.
Such a flashy entrance was enough to grab the attention of all the mortal present. However, it was the sheer amount of [Chaos] that was radiating off of his body that grabbed the focus of all of the kaijin as well.
"Huh? Who the hell is that guy?!"
[No way! No fucking way!]
^I don't know, but...^
[This can't be...he's real?!]
<<Why does he feel like a walking nightmare and a pleasant dream all at once?>>
[Oh, what the fuck...]
~That's what I was thinking.~
Most of the warriors present, even a good majority of the kaijin, had no idea who this enigmatic late arrival was in the slightest.
However, there was precisely one person who did...and he was oh-so excited about it.
[Finally...finally! You're here! You're here!] Dante repeated with maniacal glee. [Now I can prove myself to be the true Kaijin Lord and take what is rightfully mine!]
After making this statement, Dante's [Chaos] began to rapidly build and concentrate into the missile vest in his chest.
[Hate Barrage!]
With a shout, Dante fired off a flurry of rockets that transformed into a hail of rat-shaped constructs made of black flames.
In the face of such a barrage, Zhen Liu began to deepen his connection with Blazejudicator until he became surrounded by seven colored flames that seemed to radiate the feeling of [Virtue]. Or rather, it would be more accurate to say that these flames seemed to radiate the feeling of [Love].
[Flames of Virtue: Amor burst]
Before the rat-shaped projectiles could make contact with Zhen Liu, they were consumed by the rainbow-colored flames surrounding them.
Without so much as a sputter, spark, or bang, the missiles disappeared like soap bubbles.
^Interesting...very interesting! I get the feeling that you and I are going to have a glorious bloodbath!^
...
'Boo-yah, mother fucker! You can't touch this!'
[Executor, question. Why did you use my flames instead of simply sending it back with the Veteran's Bone Club? That would've been the perfect time to have done so.]
'Partially because I wanted to keep that little trick of mine hidden for as long as possible, partially because I plan to show this fucker how a real Kaijin Lord fights.'
[Ah...very well.]
...
With the projectiles erased, Zhen Liu had more than proved himself an equal, if not greater, warrior than Dante.
Landing between Lyona and Dante on the palanquin, Zhen Liu made it clear with his body language that he was on the former's side.
Needless to say, the lioness bloodliner was rather awestruck by the display of [Chaos] being demonstrated before her.
Up until very recently, her only frames of reference for how one could use [Chaos] was based on the kaijin and Dante.
The former used [Chaos] as naturally as they breathed, so it was rather difficult for her to keep track how they did it even when they were providing guidance from the inside of their heads. That stated, she did notice that Dante's Kaijin weren't as graceful in manipulating aether as the ones led by Nepherage. As for the latter, the man's application was so unnecessarily loud that it was hard for Lyona to take him seriously after learning how there were more elegant ways to wield [Chaos] from the kaijin themselves.
But now, seeing how the creator of Nepherage and the other kaijin could use [Chaos] so flawlessly, Lyona couldn't help but be awestruck.
Then again, it also probably helped that the guy making such a performance looked like a finely sculpted statue made of rare minerals and polished bronze.
[Apologies for interrupting your fight, Miss Lyona,] the statue of a man stated in a smooth voice enhanced with [Chaos] and a touch of aether. [But I will need to cut in and take command of Nepherage for this next part. Is that alright with you?]
^That...^
Lyona's pride as a warrior was mildly insulted at the notion of letting someone else take her opponent away from her. However, she was also aware that she was nowhere ready to be Dante's opponent so she was okay with passing the baton.
^That...is possible. The stage is yours.^
[Excellent. Thank you, kindly.]
[Good luck, little lion,] Nepherage said in a polite tone before transforming her club form and back into a ball of light. [Go and meet up with the twins. They should be able to make up for my absence.]
^Right.^
Bestowed with new instructions, Lyona bailed from the stage and allowed Zhen Liu to take the lead for this battle against the owner of this shitty mine.
Meanwhile, Zhen Liu and Nepherage forged a [Taboo] that was his definition of [Hero].
'Alright, you knock-off fucker. Let's see who's the better Kaijin Lord.'
In sharp contrast to Lyona's brutal looking stone club that looked like it belonged to a barbarian war hero who dared to challenge an entire empires, Zhen Liu's [Taboo] of Nepherage looked like it belonged to a heroic general who led his men from the front.
To be more precise, Nepherage had transformed into a heavy glaive that was a full head taller than Zhen Liu and had a crimson blade head that appeared to be made entirely of jade. Finishing the weapon, the visage of a warrior woman with wings was etched onto the side of the blade.
Once the [Taboo] had finished forming, Zhen Liu strode forward in preparation to face his fated foe.
...
*Bing-Bong*
Note that the following should be read while listening to a shamisen playing.
I don't know why either.
Thank you.
*Bing-Bong*
...
Upon a golden stage, supported with the bodies of the destitute and damned, a pair of warriors with more similarities than not, stared each other down.
Both were victims of circumstance, both had life-changing encounters with the power of primordial creation, but both had taken very different lessons from these encounters.
On one side, a warrior with the appearance of a hellish judge and armed with a crimson jade glaive, had learned the beauty and power found in [Desire].
It was [Desire] that had riled up the ancient gods into creating the universe, and it was [Desire] that allowed mortals to set their sights beyond the foreseeable.
By giving these [Desire] form, this particular Kaijin Lord sought to achieve the impossible.
On the other side, this warrior had a chip on his shoulder, one that filled him with [Disgust] towards the world around him.
This [Disgust] encouraged him to twist and distort the beings of this world into monstrous forms that felt nothing but the same [Disgust] he had for the world around him, and inflict this feeling onto others.
[Disgust] had a habit of bringing others down, and those on the ground made for excellent stepping stones.
Reflecting this feeling, the weapons he was currently wielding were all designed to explode and inflict massive harm against friend, foe and bystander alike.
These two warriors, should've never collided with each other.
By all right, there should've been a single Kaijin Lord in existence.
One was never meant to be, while the other was supposed to be alone.
And now, on this stage of destiny, we shall see who was meant to be who.
...
[Is it safe to assume that you're the reason why these worthless slaves decided to rebel after all this time?] Dante asked as he watched Zhen Liu get ready for battle.[That stated, I must thank you for helping me to achieve the next step in my evolution.]
[Why yes, I did help these poor victims of your malice acquire the means to take you down,] Zhen Liu answered as he waited for Dante to ready himself. [As well, just because you're evolved doesn't mean I can't take you down.]
[We shall see.]
Zhen Liu and Dante stared each other down once the latter had gotten into position and took a fighting stance.
With his glaive resting across his shoulder, Zhen Liu was more than ready to either charge in or lash out at whatever Dante was about to throw at him.
Needless to say, Dante was ready as well.
Flamethrower arms primed, and rat-rockets at the ready, Dante was prepared to burn down Zhen Liu the moment he got close.
Now, all they needed to start fighting was for someone to make the opening move.
[...fuck it!]
Unsurprisingly, both sides decided to attack at the exact same time.
[Rat King's Punishing Payload!]
[Valkyrie Blitz!]
In a bid to annihilate Zhen Liu, Dante fired off his shoulder rockets and released a pair of projectiles that resembled screaming rats from the pits of hell.
Dante, of course, made sure to overload them with [Chaos] in order to make the explosive payload more dangerous.
At the exact same time, Zhen Liu had coordinated with Nepherage and Balzejudicator to launch himself forward while feeding enough momentum into the glaive to go for a decapitation strike against Dante.
(Un)Fortunately, Zhen Liu was more than likely to slice through the rockets first!
