Jujutsu Kaisen: Wheel Of Time

Chapter 29: Chapter 29: The Curse Appears

Chapter 29: The Curse Appears

Time Wheel Spin

Kicking through the wooden door leading to the corridor, Kamihara Hajime passed through the suspended fragments and arrived at the source of the screams, where the aura of the Curse reached its peak.

Breaking down another door, he stepped into a room to find a bizarre scene: a tattooed man, holding a short knife, knelt before two corpses on the ground, his face a mix of strange excitement and fear.

On the other side was the most prominent entity in the room: a huge, grotesque monster. It was a square block of flesh, with a single, massive eye vertically split open on its front face.

Its black and red pupil resembled an insect encased in amber, but Kamihara Hajime could feel its gaze shifting towards him.

The powerful Cursed Spirit had no normal limbs, instead extending two enlarged humanoid arms from its sides to prop itself on the ground. Its underside was a gaping, toothless maw. Furthermore, its six faces were covered with varying numbers of restless eyes, making it look like a bizarre dice.

At this moment, it was swallowing half a corpse, while splattered blood hung suspended in mid-air, forming a distorted tableau.

Without hesitation, Kamihara Hajime dispelled his Technique and instantly infused the Cursed Energy gained from Reverse Cursed Technique into his Technique.

Time Wheel - Reverse

His targets were the ordinary people who had been killed. As he cast Technique Reversal on them, Kamihara Hajime felt a strong resistance, primarily from the three ordinary people swallowed by the Cursed Spirit.

This involved the presence of what was likely a Special Grade Cursed Spirit. It was like a weathered reef in a river, stubbornly obstructing him, making the already difficult Technique Reversal even harder. Not only was his Cursed Energy rapidly depleting, but Kamihara Hajime's head also began to ache.

No sooner had Kamihara Hajime felt his headache than a warm liquid seemed to trickle down his lips, and simultaneously, his Technique Reversal was forcibly interrupted. The three women and one man in the room looked dazed, their faces still etched with extreme fear.

When they finally comprehended the scene before them, their minds struggled to process the situation. Only upon seeing the tattooed man still standing there, holding the blood-stained short knife, did they vividly collapse to the ground in terror.

"What… what happened?"

The tattooed man's memory was still stuck on him personally sacrificing these five offerings to the High God, but why were four people still alive now? He looked at the short knife in his hand, bewildered, then suddenly looked up at Kamihara Hajime, whose nose was bleeding.

"It must be you! You ruined the sacrifice to the High God! I'll sacrifice you to the High God too!"

The man swung his short knife and charged at Kamihara Hajime. However, Kamihara Hajime, who had just wiped away the blood from his nose, paid him little heed. Most of his attention was on the Cursed Spirit, which was now becoming somewhat frenzied and fixated on him.

As for the tattooed man, when he reached Kamihara Hajime and raised his blade to stab him in the side of the neck, Kamihara Hajime suddenly unleashed a flying kick. The tattooed man's figure blurred and he was instantly slammed against the wall ten meters away, creating a large crater. He spewed a "rain of blood" in mid-air but, strangely, did not die, instead sliding weakly to the ground.

"Hajime!"

Nanami Kento, who had just arrived, immediately saw the Cursed Spirit. Its powerful aura made him instinctively grip his weapon, instantly entering combat mode.

"Nanami-senpai, please take those four people out first."

Kamihara Hajime said, his back to Nanami Kento, as he advanced towards the dice Cursed Spirit that was rapidly crawling towards them. Nanami Kento quickly made a decision, pulling up a woman who was overly terrified and on the verge of a breakdown, then shouted to the other three, "Quick, follow me!"

Time Wheel Spin

Godspeed Slash!

The dice Cursed Spirit's body suddenly tore open with several gashes, like cloth. The spraying black blood stained most of Kamihara Hajime's clothes, but at the same time, the ordinary curse sword in Kamihara Hajime's hand shattered. To break through the Cursed Spirit's defense, Kamihara Hajime had infused a bit too much Cursed Energy, and coupled with multiple slashes at the same time, the cursed tool finally couldn't withstand it.

Amidst the dice Cursed Spirit's painful wails, the eye on its front suddenly emitted a black-gray light, which instantly condensed into a column as thick as a bucket, flashing through the air and leaving behind a scorched scent.

Although this attack was swift, it naturally couldn't hit Kamihara Hajime. The eyes on the Cursed Spirit's body suddenly turned backward, where a person was now standing, a raised fist burning with surging Cursed Energy. But in the next moment, all movements vanished from its sight.

One punch, two punches... Black Flash triggered! Then Technique Reversal, reversing himself. The dice Cursed Spirit, which had just been sent flying by the burst of immense power, once again stopped all movement in Kamihara Hajime's eyes.

Pseudo-Black Flash Double!

The black, chaotic, lightning-like Cursed Energy fluctuations landed squarely on its largest eye, like shattering a waterlogged bouncy ball. That eye was smashed open by Kamihara Hajime's punch, but it wasn't over yet. Kamihara Hajime once again used Technique Reversal!

Ignoring the rising discomfort, Kamihara Hajime reversed himself again. The wild black light on his fist seemed to roar, and his gaping "bloody maw" bit into the Cursed Spirit's blown-out eye wound.

Pseudo-Black Flash Triple!

Technique released. The dice Cursed Spirit's body, suspended in mid-air, suddenly trembled violently, then exploded into a large amount of liquid, like a cannonball, smashing through the wall behind it repeatedly. Judging by the dust-filled hole, it had flown outside the building.

"What… was that? Is that what the High God looks like? I saw the High God with my own eyes?"

The tattooed man, lying on the ground barely alive, seemed to see the Cursed Spirit at this moment, revealing an expression of supreme joy in his trance. But then he was covered by a black shadow. The figure looking down at him had dark red hair, as if stained with blood, and clothes covered in a large amount of unknown blood, making the figure, whose face was unclear, appear like a ghost.

"Demon…"

Kamihara Hajime reached out, lifted the man, and then walked out through the hole that had been created. The Cursed Spirit was already struggling to get up from the ground. Its originally somewhat deformed body began to recover rapidly, and even Occupationals even the single eye that Kamihara Hajime had smashed began to regrow. The scene was momentarily very bizarre.

At this dying moment, the tattooed man finally truly saw the full appearance of his "High God." Its overly terrifying appearance momentarily overshadowed his unknown true or false piety, especially when stared at by those eerie eyes, as if inexplicable voices whispered and wailed in his ears.

"Hmm?"

Kamihara Hajime looked at the Cursed Spirit in surprise; its recovery speed had noticeably increased, and its aura had inexplicably strengthened by several points. Was it the effect of its Technique?

"It's fear!"

Nanami Kento walked over from the side and said. Hearing this, Kamihara Hajime looked down at the tattooed man he had thrown on the ground. The man, who had been full of fear just moments ago, now had an unusually calm expression, his gaze towards the Cursed Spirit containing all sorts of emotions, except for the fear he had shown earlier.

Kamihara Hajime narrowed his eyes thoughtfully: "Nanami-senpai means this Cursed Spirit's Technique can absorb fear and turn it into its own power?" Curses are born from negative emotions, but if this Curse could actively absorb existing fear, it would mean that under certain circumstances, this Cursed Spirit would be extremely terrifying.

If it, already a Special Grade, faced an opponent with even a hint of fear, it could absorb that fear and strengthen itself, creating a snowball effect: it gets stronger, the opponent gets more afraid, and then it gets even stronger!

Perhaps there was an upper limit, but before reaching it, it could probably grow to a terrifying degree. Maybe it had grown to its current state precisely because it was born in this hellish place and absorbed the fear of the victims?

Thoughts raced through Kamihara Hajime's mind. Then, he moved his foot, hooked the tattooed man, and quickly threw him towards the Cursed Spirit. The Cursed Spirit wouldn't distinguish between companions and enemies; to it, the tattooed man was just another source of convenient food. Now, inexplicably severely wounded, it angrily reached out a hand, grabbed the tattooed man, and squeezed him into a flattened object like a sponge.

Nanami, standing nearby, loosened his tie and said nothing. He had naturally seen the tattooed man's previous actions. Although Jujutsu Sorcerers cannot casually kill ordinary people, or they would face scrutiny and even be judged as Curse Masters, wasn't it the Cursed Spirit that killed that person just now?

Just as Nanami Kento was about to join the attack on the Cursed Spirit, Kamihara Hajime stopped him: "Nanami-senpai, let me handle this. Their leader is on the roof over there, and there are many victims inside the building. Please control the situation, senpai. I need to take this Cursed Spirit away from here, otherwise it will gain a continuous source of power."

The loud noise just now had been heard by those covered by the veil. Although they didn't know what was happening, it didn't stop them from feeling fear, given their past hellish experiences.

And with these fearful emotions, this Cursed Spirit, in a blink of an eye, looked largely recovered just from its appearance. Its massive body, using all four "hands," crashed towards them. The eyes on its body once again emitted light, and several black beams of light cut through the air and shot towards them.

The beams that Kamihara Hajime dodged instantly created several large holes in the building behind him. At this rate, the building probably wouldn't last much longer. Kamihara Hajime immediately activated his Technique, then instantly vanished from the spot with the Cursed Spirit, leaving only a large hole in the surrounding wall.
