Journey to Godhood Begins in Frieren

Chapter 102: Chapter 102: KonoSuba!

Standing on a deserted road, Shichen scanned the surroundings, frowning and somewhat perplexed.

There was no sign of people, no buildings, not even a single town or city to be seen—not even monsters. All he could see were distant mountain ranges and land as desolate as a wasteland.

Why wasn't he sent to the beginner's village?

After leaving Serie, Shichen traveled directly to the new world, and the "voice" in his mind indicated that this world was:

"Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!"

He was very familiar with this series, and he'd really wanted to meet some of those interesting acquaintances right away. But unexpectedly, once his view changed, he found himself in this godforsaken place, not at the beginner's village he'd assumed he'd see.

Wasn't the story mostly centered on that "Isekai 'Hollywood set'" sort of beginner's town? How did he end up way out here?

He did know from experience that whenever he first arrived in a new world, he'd quickly run into someone possessing a Divine Fragment. So, would that person come out to a deserted place like this?

Who could it possibly be?

Who would come all the way to this sort of location?

And what about this world's timeline?

"Hmm?"

Just as Shichen was pondering this, he suddenly sensed a surge of magic behind him, not too far away. Whether it was a human or a demon didn't matter; he needed some living being to point him in the right direction.

Shichen's figure vanished in an instant. Following the trail of magic, he arrived at its source in no time—and what he saw made his expression twist.

In front of him were disgustingly huge worms, shaped like earthworms with wide, circular jaws lined with sharp fangs, dripping sticky drool—utterly revolting.

The giant worms had surrounded a horse-drawn carriage, and at the front were several people armed with weapons, defending it. Most attention-grabbing were the two young girls by the carriage.

They looked like sisters around fourteen or fifteen years old. One of them seemed to be a mage, wearing a robe and hat while clutching a staff, appearing rather petite. The other was taller—especially in the bust, which was unthinkably large. She wore a pink uniform-like outfit that simply couldn't contain her figure, with a short skirt revealing a pair of fair, shapely legs.

Both had short black hair, looking out of place compared to the others around them.

At this moment, the two girls trembled in fright, though it was unclear whether they were more scared by the threat or disgusted by those giant worm creatures.

"Our opponents are just some low-level monsters: Giant Digging Worms. Their attack power isn't high, but their vitality is strong,"

"Right, they're quite tanky. Just be careful not to get swallowed."

Someone nearby was seriously warning them, but the two girls seemed not to be listening. The more buxom girl let out a fearful whimper, while the other—who held the staff—began chanting an incantation, staff starting to emit a dazzling light.

"O twilight curtain that grants all things their end, thou who takest aim at the sorrowful realm's—"

Her staff began gathering massive magic, but the taller girl immediately stopped her with alarm, pressing down on her staff in a panic. "Wait! I know how you feel—I really do! But you'll blow everyone else up too!"

"Let go of me! I want to blow these disgusting things to pieces!"

The two began squabbling, not at all mindful of the situation. Meanwhile, the disgusting giant worms had closed in on them.

The petite girl was first to notice.

"They're getting closer! They're staring at us…"

"I-I'll think of something!" the tall girl said in a panic, gathering magic in her hand. She shouted:

"Fireball!"

A condensed flame shot out at the oncoming Giant Digging Worm.

Boom!

An explosion rang out; the worm, which was several times bigger than they were, collapsed after taking the hit, unable to rise again.

"Phew…"

The two of them exhaled heavily, obviously relieved.

"That was just one shot! So powerful!"

"Yeah, that'll make things easier—but it seems like there might be more underground. Please keep going!" a nearby voice called out.

"Huh…?"

They froze. And sure enough, from beneath the ground, over a dozen giant worms popped up, instantly surrounding them.

Their wriggling bodies resembled writhing tentacles, each brandishing gaping maws dripping with foul mucus. Truly horrifying and disgusting.

"This…this many?!" the petite mage's voice quavered. "Hey, Megumin…Me—Megumin? H-hey!"

She was calling the other girl's name for help, sounding on the verge of tears.

Suddenly, someone else's voice interrupted. "You two…seriously, are you that oblivious to the danger?"

Looking up, they saw that someone had suddenly appeared before them—Shichen, who shook his head in mild exasperation.

"Ah?"

The petite mage, presumably Megumin, stiffened, forgetting to struggle.

The tall girl was just as surprised.

"Teleportation?!"

"Not quite, but close enough," Shichen replied dismissively. He placed a hand on each of their shoulders. "Come with me."

"Gyaaa!"

At that moment, a giant worm opened its dripping jaws and lunged at them. Before its saliva could reach them, Shichen and the girls vanished.

Smack!

The giant worm's jaw snapped on empty air, its strike failing. Meanwhile, Shichen instantly brought the two girls back to the carriage.

Inside, three people were present—two cloaked females, one older and one younger (perhaps mother and daughter?), and a rotund man whose attire looked rather well-to-do.

"Haaah, we're safe!" Megumin exhaled, collapsing in relief.

The taller girl gratefully said to Shichen, "T-thank you for saving us."

Only now did she get a good look at his features—refined, handsome, and imbued with a unique aura. It startled her.

"No need to thank me," Shichen waved it off with a smile.

"Oniisan, you're amazing! How did you do that—going from outside to here all at once?" the little girl (who'd originally been in the carriage) asked excitedly, gazing at him.

Shichen gave her a light smile. "If I want to do it, I just do it."

"Wow, so cool!" The little girl's jaw dropped, and she began to applaud.

"U-um…" The rotund, wealthy-looking man fidgeted, as if wanting to grab Shichen's sleeve but not daring to. Nervously, he asked, "You're a great mage, right? Could you save us…?"

"That shouldn't be a problem. …You're heading to Axel, right? Would you let me ride along afterward?"

"O-of course!" The man patted his chest in guarantee.

"Thanks."

"You're really a great mage?" Megumin suddenly blurted, clearly skeptical.

"Megumin, that's rude!" the tall girl reproached, flustered. "He just saved us, and used teleportation, so obviously he's a great mage!"

"Heh," Shichen let out a small chuckle. He wasn't offended. He turned to the tall girl. "And your name is…?"

"Huh? M-me?" She pointed at herself in disbelief.

"Yeah."

"I-I'm Yunyun."

"Yunyun, I see. Then, would you like to come with me and finish off those monsters?"

"Ah!"
