William couldn't help but smile when he saw the effects of the Hunter Talent. Tracking was previously William's weakest ability, since individuals like Tenebris have continuously escaped his detection for multiple years now.
Every time William came in contact with the man, his figure would fade into a plume of smoke and disappear into nothingness. William could even tell that it was a Magic Spell of the Darkness Element, but it was one that he had yet to learn how to cast.
It couldn't be helped, though, since William never saw Tenebris' Mana fluctuate when the Spell was cast, as if he was always preparing it well in advance.
Speaking of, I'm going to have to track down that old fool at some point. Maybe I'll have one of my friends take his position as leader of Retribution after his death. Who should it be...?
William didn't know, but he decided to spend some time testing out the Hunter Talent to make sure he understood the Tracking Function and the Navigation Talent's updated Radar.
After a bit of thought, William didn't hesitate to turn off the Scent Concealment function. If he concealed his scent now, his enemies wouldn't rely on it to track him. It would be better to keep his scent active, then turn it off later when he was being targeted by something much stronger than him.
Fria's figure appeared in the distance, but she didn't notice William yet, so he decided to check the next two Talents first before his annoying sister tried to pull him into doing something else.
He could tell from her expression already that she was getting bored, which meant he'd have to start absorbing the Greater and Superior Veins again soon.

William assumed that the System still allowed negative effects of Spirit Food because of situations like now when he had to suppress himself just to remain on Efretta. He was slightly awed by the System's foresight.

While most of the Noble Prowess Talent's effects were somewhat useless to William, he liked the effect of the Leadership sub-Talent. He wondered if at higher Ranks, his team would willingly jump off a bridge for him.
If he didn't like a certain person, that could be funny.
-My other Hosts said the exact same thing. What is wrong with you all?
I don't know, but you chose me so it must have something to do with you.
-Actually, I chose your sister. But you got in the way and signed your name instead of hers. In fact, her natural talent far surpasses yours, so she probably would be the best Host I've ever had. And you ruined it.
Huh?!? Why are you saying it like it's not a big deal?! This was the first time William was hearing this. Why would a mere contract bind you to me?
Also, if you wanted my sister as a Host, having someone without a job purchase a game is probably not the best way to go about things... Even I would have thought of some better method...
-Rules are rules, and I made a mistake. Once I'm bound to a Host, I can only leave under certain conditions. Usually, the condition is death.
Except for Efretta, right? That must be hard for you...
William couldn't imagine spending thousands, tens of thousands, or maybe even millions of years with a Host, only for them to die while you're left alone to find a new one. William could tell that the System wasn't a heartless, soulless robot.
It had feelings, and maybe even a heart. It wasn't like the Systems he had read about in novels. This one was a unique being, and something about its condition made William want to help.
Is there a way to remove these rules that bind you? Wouldn't you like to be on your own one day? William asked.
-I don't dare to think about it. There is always more to the World than meets the eye, and you'll one day find out just how ludicrous your statement just was.
Even if I'm not strong enough, you'll help me right? You know what to expect, all you have to do is come up with a solution. You want to keep me alive as much as I do, so let's do it together and one day you'll be you, and I'll be me.
-It's impossible.
You remember what I said to Duon about impossible, right?
The System didn't respond, but the mental waves told William that it was deep in thought.
He silently made a decision to do what he could to help the System. He would learn more about the World, more about the Heavens, and more about the Celestial Planes.
He would commit his resources to unraveling the secrets of the System, learning about the Rules that bound it, and releasing it bit by bit.
Even if he made mistakes or found himself in difficult situations, William would do his best to ensure the System could have a future of its own, without needing to rely on another Host.
It's lived a hundred million years, trapped inside bodies like mine and used like a tool. I'm only 22, and I can't imagine spending even a year locked up, much less a hundred million!
Another goal became clear in William's mind as he pondered helping the System. But for that, he needed more strength, and more Potential Points!
