Chapter 42 - Light and Shadow (3)
“Is this line ever going to get shorter?”
Kairoc’s grumbling seemed to represent the feelings of the whole group.
While everyone’s faces were full of irritation matching his grumpy voice, only Rubina, sitting on Kairoc’s shoulders, was an exception.
“Is that the Grand Bear Country of Capatia?”
“…Grand Duchy.”
Since Yona was the only one who knew what ‘bear soup’ meant, she almost laughed.
Suppressing the laughter that almost burst out, Yona corrected Rubina’s words while craning her neck to look ahead.
The line, truly a long, long line stretched out.
If all those people were waiting to enter the Grand Duchy of Capatia, it seemed like it might be better to just set up their sleeping bags, given how long the line was.
“Rubina, aren’t you cold?”
As James reached out towards Rubina, she quickly jumped into his arms from her perch on Kairoc’s shoulders.
“I’m not cold.”
“Good, that’s a relief.”
“She wouldn’t be cold. We’re just burning up inside from frustration.”
A day earlier than James had said, after exactly two days, the entry gate to the Grand Duchy of Capatia appeared beyond the horizon.
The Grand Duchy of Capatia, the central nation of the Capatian All-People’s Empire, was not only the center of the empire but also a wealthy country with the best port, and due to its port, it also served as a hub for all kinds of logistics.
Unlike the distant Naiaso Great Priest Alliance, or the Catus Empire with only naval fortresses instead of trade ports, it was inevitable for the Grand Duchy of Capatia to develop, where merchant ships could freely come and go.
As a result, both by land and sea, the Grand Duchy of Capatia was always bustling with people.
“How many?”
“Four. And one child.”
“What about the child?”
“She’s their daughter.”
Kairoc’s finger pointed alternately at Yona and Alec.
The guard, who had received four adventurer badges and was checking them by turning them over, looked back and forth between Yona and Alec.
“The child’s hair color doesn’t match.”
Yona’s hair was a dull milk color without any luster, while Rubina’s hair was black, so it was understandable.
Meanwhile, Alec pointed at his own head.
A smooth, shiny bald head with nothing on it.
“Ah, my hair used to be black. Originally, that is.”
“Is that so? But why are you bald?”
“I’m an adventurer, you see. Hair can sometimes obstruct vision, and if someone grabs your hair, it could be a big problem.”
The guard seemed unable to completely erase his suspicion even as he watched Alec laughing sheepishly.
The guard bent down to look at Rubina, and Rubina quietly looked back up at him.
It was a face that could hardly be called handsome, but most notably, there was a black mole in the middle of his forehead with a single hair growing from it.
Rubina looked up at the guard’s face and then tugged on Yona’s sleeve.
“Mo- Mom, this uncle has a hair growing from his mole.”
That one sentence was enough to startle Yona, Alec, and even Kairoc and James.
“Ah, no. Sorry… We’re sorry!”
As the guard’s face visibly hardened, Yona hurriedly covered Rubina’s mouth.
But even faster than that, Rubina pointed at Alec’s head.
“Dad doesn’t have even a single hair.”
Puhah-
The guard burst out laughing.
Thanks to that, the atmosphere lightened, and Yona’s face relaxed a bit too.
“This is a concern, indeed. I should pluck that hair out. Anyway, I understand. Go on in.”
It was a great relief that the guard didn’t pick on them any further.
As soon as the guard gave permission, the barricade made of thick interlocking wood opened.
Passing through the barricade and entering, the interior of the Grand Duchy of Capatia, already deeply shrouded in darkness, revealed itself.
The buildings, all built with stone bricks, clearly showed how wealthy this country was.
With no wooden houses in sight, only buildings made of bricks, they were on a completely different level from the wooden houses commonly seen in the villages they had passed through, including Evian.
The rough exterior walls, perhaps covered with plaster, seemed to enhance the charm of the buildings.
Moreover, street lamps lined up along the city’s entrance road had luminous stones the size of an adult’s fist embedded in them, so there was no difficulty in looking around the streets even at night.
“Damn, why do I have to play the role of a mother with a child?”
“What else can we do if we can’t get in otherwise?”
“What are you grinning about?”
Yona seemed quite displeased with the excuse they had given to the guard earlier.
That’s because she still thought of herself as a man, only with a woman’s body, and wasn’t keen on pretending to be married to Alec.
“I’m fine with it. We were known as a married adventurer couple in Evian, so why not do the same here?”
“Stop talking nonsense.”
Yona hit the back of Alec’s head with a loud smack.
“Sister, hitting is bad.”
Rubina, who had suddenly interjected, had her hands on her hips and was glaring at Yona.
Over the past few days, Rubina seemed to have become more accustomed and was gradually returning to behavior more fitting for her age.
“Well, Rubina’s right. You shouldn’t keep hitting Alec’s head like that.”
“What’s wrong with it? I want to do it.”
“No. Mr. James said you shouldn’t hit people who are hurt.”
“What do you mean hurt? What’s wrong with this baldy? He’s not hurt at all.”
“Mr. Kairoc said Alec lost all his hair because his head hurts.”
“…Rubina?”
“That’s why Yona keeps using healing on Alec’s head, right?”
They walked through the night-covered Capatia, continuously exchanging not-so-funny jokes.
Thanks to the street lamps lining everywhere their eyes fell, there was no problem walking even though it was night.
“But it’s really impressive.”
“It would be. After all, it’s the most prosperous country in the empire.”
“It’s more impressive than what I saw in textbooks.”
This was Yona’s first time in Capatia too.
While she had learned about the Capatian All-People’s Empire during her education at the church, seeing it in person was a different experience from just hearing descriptions.
“Well, let’s find an inn first. No matter how impressive it is, we’ll freeze to death if we sleep on the streets.”
“Do you know a place?”
“No. We’ll have to look around.”
Finding an inn in such a big city isn’t too difficult.
If you find a place with frequent foot traffic, there’s usually a tavern, and more often than not, the tavern either doubles as an inn or there’s an inn nearby.
However, since the city was so large, it was difficult to find a place with frequent foot traffic, so they started walking towards where they heard loud voices.
And soon enough, they found a tavern that was still bustling with business, with all sorts of lights on even at this hour.
“Dinner and rooms.”
“How many people?”
A man with long hair tied back in a strange style glanced at Yona as he asked.
Alec looked at Yona, expecting her to snap back asking what he was looking at, but surprisingly, Yona didn’t seem to mind.
“Four adults, one child.”
“We don’t have rooms that big.”
The numbers didn’t match up.
Yona, Alec, Kairoc, James, and Rubina.
Even if Yona and Rubina shared a room, Kairoc, James, and Alec would remain, meaning one of these three would need a single room, which would require renting three rooms, and that would be a waste of money.
“Why don’t I, Rubina, and Alec share one room, and Kairoc and James share another?”
“Finally acknowledging us as a married adventurer coup- Oof!”
“Want to keep talking nonsense?”
After strongly elbowing Alec in the side, Yona turned to Kairoc and James.
“That works, doesn’t it? Two rooms. Right?”
Without waiting for an answer, Yona immediately told the innkeeper.
“Two rooms with bathtubs, and meals. We’ll eat in our rooms.”
She had no desire to eat mixed in with those sweaty guys.
After taking off his equipment and hanging it on the bedside table, Alec was about to sit on the bed but ended up sitting on the floor.
‘…What kind of situation is this?’
Somehow, Yona had arranged it so that Alec and Yona were sharing a room.
Of course, Rubina was there too, but right now, thoughts of Rubina had completely vanished from Alec’s mind.
The fact that he was going to spend the night in the same room as Yona filled Alec’s head completely.
Moreover, from the bathroom in the corner of the room came the sound of someone washing.
It was the sound of Yona washing.
Rubina’s voice was mixed in too, but it was automatically filtered out in Alec’s ears.
Alec looked down at his hands.
If he kneaded his hands like this, even now that sensation vividly came back to life.
‘They were big… really, unbelievably big…’
Alec was a warrior, and though he was next to Kairoc, he was tall and large-built.
As a guard by profession, he was also very strong, and naturally, his hands were as big as pot lids.
Yona’s breasts boasted an overwhelming mass that filled and overflowed even Alec’s hands.
‘I shouldn’t have moved away so quickly when she told me to.’
-Get off, kid… You’re heavy.
It was a mistake to quickly get off, startled by Yona’s cold voice.
Honestly, it’s wrong to think this way, but he should have savored that sensation more at that time.
No, maybe he should have been more brazen and kneaded them more, claiming it as a breast-fondling pass when such an opportunity came.
-Go ahead, don’t regret it later when you’ve missed your chance.
‘Aaargh!’
Alec scratched his head vigorously.
The scratch marks on his bald head briefly showed red before fading away.
‘Who knew they would disappear like that-!’
A silent scream.
The sound of water continued incessantly.
Since they had paid extra for a room with a bathtub, it seemed they were determined to get their money’s worth by washing with hot water for once.
‘Oh, damn it, damn it!’
Listening to that water sound made him imagine even more.
If he just opened that wooden door, Yona would be there.
Yona, without a single piece of clothing.
If he just opened that wooden door, Yona would-
And then the wooden door opened.
“Hey, baldy.”
The steamy wooden door opened, and Yona appeared, roughly covering her body with a thick cloth.
“Wh-what?!”
“Why are you so surprised? Dry her off and wring out her hair.”
Yona sent Rubina out as if nothing was wrong.
Rubina’s face was also flushed red, with steam rising from her, and now that she was clean, she did look quite cute.
“And give me my nun’s habit. There’s a spare in the backpack there. Give me that too.”
“Uh, okay…”
“Oh, and my underwear is there too. Give me that as well.”
“Un-underwear…?”
Alec’s face turned red even though he hadn’t bathed.
Underwear, underwear… It’s not okay to show the body, but underwear is fine?
“Hey, the water’s getting cold. Hurry up and give them to me. I need to do laundry.”
Yona frowned, but Alec still couldn’t move.
It was also because if he moved now, his posture would become somewhat uncomfortable.
“Ah, really, you man…”
Yona frowned and walked out of the bathroom.
Then she approached her bed and started rummaging through her backpack, but since the cloth wasn’t that generous in size to begin with, as soon as she let go of her hand holding it, the cloth slid down.
“You really make things difficult, seriously.”
“Uh, umm…”
Alec couldn’t continue speaking.
He couldn’t help it because although Yona was turned around as she rummaged through her backpack, that alone was destructive enough.
Narrow shoulders,
Clearly visible shoulder blades,
A slender waist.
The ample hips that curved sharply from that slender waist.
And the snow-white buttocks.
Two milky-white, perfectly curved moon-like shapes that one couldn’t take their eyes off.
And decisively, with every move Yona made, those heavy flesh masses on her chest that were visible even from behind-
Alec stared blankly at that back view, forgetting even to breathe.
“Really making things difficult…”
That sight didn’t last long.
After taking out her underwear and nun’s habit from the backpack, Yona put them down on the bed and pulled up the fallen cloth to cover her body again.
Then she went straight back into the bathroom and closed the wooden door.
“Sister Yona’s breasts are huge.”
“…I know.”
“Sister Yona is very slim.”
“I know that too.”
“Sister Yona is incredibly beautiful.”
“I know that very well too.”
“How do you know?”
“Because this uncle has known Sister Yona longer than you have.”
“Then does uncle like Sister Yona?”
Alec couldn’t answer that question from Rubina.
Or perhaps he didn’t answer.
