I'm Just a Nobody, Why Are You Calling Me a God?!

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Dragon Girl

After completing the statement, the Guardian Squad confirmed the situation was under control, and Wang Yanfie and Lin Yi were finally free to leave. Xu Jiayin clung tightly to Lin Yi's arm, her eyes still holding traces of lingering fear.

As they walked out of the Guardian Squad office, Lin Yi gently reassured her, "Tomorrow, we should test your ability and register it. Having a record with the Guardian Squad will make things safer in the future."

Xu Jiayin nodded softly, her voice delicate, "Okay, let's go together tomorrow."

Walking alongside them, Wang Yanfie shot a glance at the two, smirking playfully. "Oh? Heading home together, huh? Just make sure you guys don't do anything… unhealthy."

Lin Yi instantly turned his head and snapped, "Get lost!"

Xu Jiayin, caught off guard by the sudden exchange, couldn't help but chuckle, though her face quickly flushed red. "What nonsense are you talking about, Wang Yanfie!" She lowered her head in embarrassment, hiding behind Lin Yi, her cheeks burning like a ripe apple.

Wang Yanfie waved his hand nonchalantly. "Hey, I'm just being a concerned friend! Anyway, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone. I'm heading home." He casually waved and turned to leave.

After bringing Xu Jiayin home and making sure she was settled in, Lin Yi stayed with her for a while. She was still visibly shaken, so they sat on the living room sofa and talked late into the night.

As time crept toward midnight, Lin Yi finally said, "It's getting late. You should rest. Leave tomorrow's matters to me—no need to worry."

"Mhm, thank you," Xu Jiayin replied softly, her voice as gentle as a breeze. She stood up, ready to head to her room and take a shower.

Lin Yi leaned back on the couch, deciding he might as well crash on the sofa for the night.

However, just as he was getting comfortable, the apartment door suddenly swung open.

"Jiayin! I heard something happened—" The man's voice cut off mid-sentence as he spotted Lin Yi sleeping on the sofa. His face darkened instantly. "Who is this?! A guy?!"

Lin Yi groggily sat up, rubbing his eyes, only to see a middle-aged man standing at the door with an expression as stormy as a brewing thundercloud.

Before he could explain, the bedroom door creaked open.

Xu Jiayin emerged, her hair damp from a shower, dressed in loose-fitting loungewear. She looked drowsy and relaxed—until she saw her father standing at the entrance.

She froze. "Dad? Why are you here…"

Her father's gaze darted between Lin Yi on the couch and his daughter in fresh-from-the-shower attire. His face turned even darker. "Why am I here? You tell me! A boy sleeping in our house while you come out of your room looking like that—what do you think I should be thinking?!"

"No! It's not what you think!" Xu Jiayin panicked, frantically waving her hands. "Lin Yi was just here to protect me! He stayed because it got too late! That's all!"

Lin Yi quickly stood up, equally flustered. "Uncle, I swear, nothing happened! Tonight was just about making sure Jiayin was safe. We went to the Guardian Squad to give our statements, and by the time we finished, it was too late for me to go home."

"Safe? Oh really?" Xu Jiayin's father crossed his arms, his voice icy. "Then explain why you're sleeping here while my daughter walks out dressed like that?"

Lin Yi opened his mouth but found himself struggling for words.

Xu Jiayin grabbed her father's hand, pleading, "Dad, I promise, there's nothing inappropriate happening! Lin Yi is a good guy. If you don't believe me, ask the Guardian Squad!"

Despite their desperate explanations, Lin Yi was promptly kicked out of the house that night.

The next morning, as Lin Yi sighed about his misfortune, Xu Jiayin's father unexpectedly showed up.

His demeanor had softened significantly. He cleared his throat and said, "Lin Yi, about last night—I was too hasty. Jiayin told me everything, and I realized I misjudged you."

Lin Yi blinked in surprise. It was obvious that Xu Jiayin had done some serious damage control.

He quickly waved his hands. "Uncle, no worries at all. I was just doing what anyone should in that situation. There's really nothing to apologize for."

Xu Jiayin's father studied Lin Yi for a moment before sighing. Then, suddenly, he clapped his hands together. "Alright then! Since I overreacted, how about this—you punch me a few times to get even, and we'll call it even!"

Lin Yi nearly choked on air. "Uh… what?"

The man nodded, dead serious. "Go on, hit me a couple of times. I won't dodge. You can get your frustration out, and we'll be square."

Lin Yi shook his head furiously. "Uncle, please, don't joke about that! There's no need for this. I wasn't upset at all!"

After a long pause, Xu Jiayin's father sighed and finally relented. He patted Lin Yi on the shoulder, speaking with reluctant approval. "You're a decent kid. Jiayin made a good choice."

Lin Yi exhaled in relief.

The next day, Lin Yi accompanied Xu Jiayin to the Guardian Squad for her ability test.

She stood nervously in front of the scanning device while Lin Yi watched from behind a glass panel, giving her an encouraging wave.

"Don't worry. Just show them what you've got." His voice came through the intercom, helping her steady her nerves.

As the test began, Xu Jiayin focused her emotions, recalling the danger from the previous night. A surge of power coursed through her body.

Her forehead sprouted small dragon-like horns, faint scales shimmered along her arms, and a distinct air of pressure radiated from her.

"Emotional stress seems to be a strong activator for her abilities," Lin Yi mused from outside.

The instruments recorded her body changes, and the test moved to a combat evaluation phase.

Each of her strikes carried a residual dragon-shaped energy, wrapping around her arms like living flames. Instead of simple projections, her attacks became fluid and precise, allowing her to strike multiple times within seconds.

Additionally, the testers noted that her physical strength and speed far exceeded normal human levels, showing substantial improvement once her ability was triggered.

A Guardian Squad officer took notes and turned to her. "Your ability is impressive. It's not just about raw power—it has flexibility and endurance. With proper training, you could easily join the Guardian Squad."

Xu Jiayin hesitated for a moment before turning to look at Lin Yi.

Lin Yi smiled and nodded. "Go for it. Training will help you get stronger—and it'll keep you safe."

After a brief discussion, Xu Jiayin officially enrolled in the Guardian Squad's training program.

With her schedule packed, she and Lin Yi agreed that they'd only meet on weekends when she had free time.

Though they spent less time together, their bond remained unchanged. Every weekend, Lin Yi was always there, waiting outside the Guardian Squad facility, ready to take her to her favorite food spots or for quiet walks in the park.

One day, Lin Yi jokingly said, "Now that you're officially a Guardian Squad member, training alongside elite ability users, do you feel like a hero yet?"

Xu Jiayin smiled softly and held his hand. "Hero or not, my weekends belong to you."

Lin Yi felt warmth spread in his chest as he squeezed her hand in return. "Don't worry, I, your 'ghostfire yellow-haired delinquent,' will always be here for you. No one's taking you away from me."

Life was busier than before, but in the fleeting moments they shared, their bond only grew stronger.

And Lin Yi knew—as Xu Jiayin's powers developed, her future would only become more extraordinary.

And no matter what, he would always stand by her side.
