Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Training Methods
Wang Yanfie shook his head and stood up, stretching his limbs. Despite the soreness coursing through his body, he could feel that Jade Vein Strength was flowing more smoothly within him.
"Looks like this method actually works," he grinned. "A few more tries, and I might really boost my efficiency."
Returning to the couch, Wang Yanfie resumed his training. Holding the handwritten manual Lin Yi had given him, he reflected on how the recent electric shock had deepened his understanding of meridians and energy channels. He then used his wristband to research the relevant concepts, carefully cross-referencing them with the technique to ensure he fully grasped every step.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
When he opened the door, he found a delivery drone hovering outside. A mechanical voice announced, "Smart Brain Dispatch. Recipient: ID D72035. Please confirm receipt." After signing, the drone delivered a sleek silver box before flying away.
Placing the box on the table, Wang Yanfie opened it and was immediately taken aback. Inside, neatly arranged, were a stack of documents and a set of specialized equipment, including one hundred high-energy liquid injectors and a miniature electric current stimulator labeled "Precision Meridian Targeting Aid."
The first page of the document was a Smart Brain-generated training guide, titled "Jade Vein Strength (Basic Version)." As he flipped through it, he realized that its content was nearly identical to Lin Yi's manual—but it only covered the first stage, 'Jade Skin,' in full detail. The later stages were completely omitted.
"This is... training guidance from Smart Brain?" Wang Yanfie muttered, frowning slightly. "And they even sent high-energy liquid and auxiliary tools? That's surprisingly thorough."
He picked up one of the high-energy injectors and examined the label, which detailed its composition, explaining how it rapidly replenished stamina and provided additional energy. The instructions stated that these one hundred injectors were sufficient to sustain an average awakened individual for a month.
However, Wang Yanfie smirked. "A week's supply for an average person? With my energy consumption, this might last me a day at best."
Lin Yi walked over, glancing at the contents of the box with raised eyebrows. "Smart Brain sure is meticulous—sending you a full training set along with the technique. But don't you find it odd? It's been three weeks, and they're only sending this now. If Smart Brain is really that efficient, these should've arrived the next day."
As he unwrapped the packaging, Wang Yanfie nodded. "Yeah, it's a bit strange. But if you think about it, my ability is basically just strong defense. Smart Brain probably prioritized those with rarer powers. I'm guessing they only got around to me now."
Lin Yi remained calm. "That makes sense. Your ability falls into a common category—Smart Brain wouldn't focus on you right away. Their primary targets are those with exceptionally rare abilities."
Shrugging, Wang Yanfie grinned. "No big deal. My ability isn't some legendary power. Smart Brain is probably too busy researching the space-time manipulators and reality warpers. The fact that they even sent me this stuff is already decent."
His tone was relaxed, clearly unconcerned about the delayed delivery. For Wang Yanfie, having fun and making steady progress in his training was far more important than overthinking Smart Brain's priorities.
Lin Yi simply smiled without commenting further.
Wang Yanfie continued, "You've seen the news, right? There are awakened people popping up all over the place, way stronger than me. Some of them got fast-tracked into the Guardian Squad. Apparently, they don't just test physical abilities—they also evaluate knowledge and mental resilience. They say mental resilience is the most crucial factor."
"That's true," Lin Yi nodded. "I saw a video online of someone using telekinesis. It was insane—moving objects through the air like it was nothing. But strangely, the video got deleted soon after."
"Guardian Squad must've recruited them," Wang Yanfie chuckled. "People like us with basic abilities shouldn't overthink it. If we can train steadily and get stronger, that's already great. I'm happy just going at my own pace—no jealousy, no pressure."
He connected the electric stimulator to a power source and applied the electrodes to the meridian points on his arm. As a faint tingling sensation spread through his skin, he focused on channeling his energy, determined to refine his control.
With the help of the high-energy liquid and electric current stimulator, Wang Yanfie's progress skyrocketed. Within just a few days, he could fully activate Jade Vein Strength across his entire body, increasing its duration from a few minutes to five hours.
According to the manual, the next stage was "Jade Bone," which required infusing energy into his skeletal structure to enhance durability and impact resistance. The training method emphasized extreme endurance—sustaining energy flow under high-impact conditions to force the bones to adapt and strengthen.
Wang Yanfie carefully analyzed the steps, planning how to incorporate them into his training.
One evening, after finishing a practice session, he turned on the television, casually flipping through the news.
The anchor spoke in a calm yet serious tone:
"According to Guardian Squad reports, a serial killer has recently surfaced in District Seven. The suspect's ability appears to involve vibrational shockwaves, causing victims' internal organs to rupture. Authorities urge citizens to remain cautious and avoid traveling alone at night."
The screen shifted to a press conference featuring the District Seven Guardian Squad Captain, who stated:
"We have identified the suspect and are intensifying our search efforts. If you notice any suspicious activity, please report it immediately."
Watching the broadcast, Wang Yanfie frowned just as Lin Yi walked into the room.
"This serial killer is getting bold," Wang Yanfie muttered. "What kind of ability do you think they have? Vibrational manipulation?"
"Based on the description, it sounds like amplitude-based attacks," Lin Yi replied. "If they can precisely rupture organs, then they're highly trained—definitely not easy to deal with."
The two continued discussing the case before heading their separate ways for the night.
Just past 7 PM, Wang Yanfie's wristband suddenly buzzed.
Opening the message, he saw Lin Yi's urgent text:
"Yanfie, something's wrong! Jiayin is in danger!"
Immediately sitting up, Wang Yanfie typed back: "What happened?"
Lin Yi's next message came quickly:
"I already reported it to the Guardian Squad, but I'm still worried. Jiayin said she felt like someone was following her, and now she's terrified. We need to go now!"
Checking the transportation schedule, Wang Yanfie realized the nearest bus wouldn't arrive for another 15 minutes, and no taxis were available. Gritting his teeth, he grabbed his coat and replied:
"No time to wait. Send me the location—I'm running there."
As soon as Lin Yi sent the coordinates, Wang Yanfie sprinted out the door. Even with his enhanced stamina, running seventeen minutes straight left him winded. When he finally arrived, he found the scene swarming with Guardian Squad officers.
Panting heavily, he reached the perimeter, spotting Xu Jiayin within a protective formation of Guardian officers. Her face was pale with lingering fear, but when she saw Lin Yi, relief flooded her expression. She rushed to his side, her voice trembling:
"You're here… I was so scared…"
Lin Yi immediately reassured her, "It's okay now. The Guardian Squad is here. You're safe."
Standing nearby, Wang Yanfie watched their heartfelt moment unfold. Sighing, he muttered under his breath:
"I ran all this way… just to be a third wheel? This is peak single-dog suffering."
Trying to distract himself, he approached a female officer and asked, "So… what actually happened here?"
The officer glanced at him and sighed. "We arrived ten minutes ago and only found this girl crying. Right across from her, we discovered the serial killer's corpse. After checking the area, we confirmed—he's dead. And strangely, there are burn marks around his body."
"Burn marks?" Wang Yanfie raised an eyebrow.
"Yes." The officer lowered her voice. "We examined her more closely just now, and two small horns appeared on her forehead. Initial theory? A high-stress awakening. Her ability surged in a moment of crisis and instantly killed the suspect."
Hearing this, Wang Yanfie sighed deeply.
"Classic protagonist plot —life-or-death moment triggers an instant awakening, one-shotting the enemy. Unreal luck."
