Chapter 8: CHAPTER 8
In My Feelings
"Mum, did you notice what just happened?
Is Mathew in possession of his father's nudes?
I still understand why he considers Mathew his favourite son. But what about me? If Mathew had not been my twin, I would have assumed I was adopted." Mark lamented shortly after his brother and father departed.
"Let it go, son. Let us go celebrate with our families. I have come to have fun, and I am not about to let anyone ruin it. I do not care what his explanation is anymore." Agnes said. She walked out on Mathew, leaving him alone to ponder his Father's preference.

"I am speaking to you, bro.
Why are you not saying anything?
Are you concealing something?
What was the secret you two were discussing?" Hilton followed up with another question.
He is getting more serious about the silent treatment he was getting from Mary and his brother, Romeo.
"Bro, are you here yet? I looked everywhere for you.
I am ecstatic that you are getting married." Romeo embraced his brother to assuage his suspicions about them.
"Thank you for your congratulations, but I am still not convinced.
Why do I think you are trying to hide behind a fake smile?
I am going to ask you for the final time." Hilton tossed another interrogative question, sending tiny shivers down their spines.
"Come on, brother. What the hell are you talking about? What is on your mind? You need to fumigate your messed-up mind.
Your thoughts are unclean. So, here is what happened.
Dad introduced her to me as your wife, and we just had a pleasant conversation before you arrived." Hilton clarified with the perfect excuse ever.
"Okay. I will take that as a compliment. That is something you are missing out on. Why are you going to skip it?" Hilton initiated the conversation. It didn't seem like he was ready to let go.
"I was just complimenting her beauty, and she laughed about it. Nothing serious about that.
She jokingly warned me not to tell you that I complimented her beauty. To keep the conversation going, I pleaded with her to keep the secret from you," Romeo explained.
He came again with another lie.
It was as though he had prepared for the big moment.
Hilton expresses concern. He was not entirely convinced his brother was telling the truth.
"You simply have to believe me. I am your one and only brother. You are made of flesh and blood. Have I ever told you a lie before?" Romeo went further to defend himself.
"I was not speaking with you." Hilton ignored Romeo to focus his attention on Mary.
"The question was intended for you. Why are you being so quiet? You should defend yourself." He confronted Mary.
"Me?" She made a gesture towards herself.
She appeared disoriented and did not contribute to the conversation.
"You understood me correctly.
Have you been paying attention, or were you simply carried away?
What are your thoughts? Is there anything that bothers you? Would you like to talk about it?
Is my brother telling the truth, or do you have something to discuss?" He put pressure on Mary, which completely confused her.
"That is precisely what occurred, Hilton. He summed up everything.
There is nothing more to say.
Mary stuttered her response.
"I see. Now, I believe you."
Hilton succumbed to pressure.
"It is difficult to trust your brother.
If you do not believe me, who else can you believe?" Romeo exclaimed and touched Hilton's shoulder.
He kept playing the victim card to muddy Hilton's narratives about him.
"Get your hands away from me. Please do not touch me in that way.
Do not keep complimenting her beauty. She will officially become my wife after today," Hilton shrugged off as he warned Romeo to take his eyes off Mary.
"Hmm!" Mary cleared her throat to interrupt the conversation.
Everything seems like a dream to her. She wondered if Hilton was the one saying those words.
"What happened? I thought he despised me?" That was the question that ran through her mind.
"Do you want to say something? Come on, spill," Hilton charged her.
. Mary responded, "I need to attend to other guests before the church service begins."
" Are you leaving because of what I said? I apologize for ruining your conversation. You two appear to be getting along well, which is precisely what I want." Hilton gave a smile and held her back.
"No. That is not what I meant.
I just need to go somewhere right now. I am guessing my father would also like to speak with me." Mary insisted.
"Alright, if you insist! I will join you soon." Hilton agreed and kissed her cheeks.
She went completely silent for a brief moment. As she walked away, she held her cheek.
"Did he do that to me?"
She asked rhetorically as the question was echoed back to her.
"Brother, your wife looks lovely. How did you convince her to marry you?" Romeo teased Hilton soon after Mary's departure.
"Who would dare to say no to my relationship proposal?" Hilton brags as he displays his Richard Mille wristwatch and Gold pendant, which sits comfortably around his neck.
"Stop with the phony pretence already.
Big brother, everyone knows you are a fuck boy. You do not have any respect for women.
You have repeatedly advocated against marriage." Romeo debunks his brother's claim of being in love with Mary. He also reminded Hilton of his dark past.
"Then you are not my brother because you do not know anything about me." I have made a permanent change. No more partying, staying up late, or flirting.
I am becoming older and more mature. These lifestyles no longer scare me. A man like me should not marry a rebellious girl." Hilton cleared the air.
"Look into my eyes and tell me you meant every word you just said," Romeo challenged Hilton, catching him off guard.
He was unable to defend himself anymore. He kept staring at Romeo like a dummy.
"I knew it!" Romeo snapped.
" I mean no disrespect to Mary, but I know you cannot marry someone like her. I mean, she is not in your class."
"You are right on that one. She is not my match. But shit happens," Hilton finally succumbed to pressure and admitted Romeo was correct.
"For once, you admitted your flaws. So, tell me, why did you choose her over your other girlfriends? Or is she expecting a baby?" Hilton spoke quietly.
"I might be a playboy, but I am not reckless enough to get a girl pregnant out of wedlock, let alone have sex with someone like her.
Is she looking pregnant to you? Was that what she told you?" Hilton cautioned Romeo for his observation of his relationship with Mary.
