I Became a Malicious Streamer

Chapter 104

“…And that’s how it went down.”

A man on the other end of the phone was explaining the circumstances leading up to the proposal for my commentary.

I had a rough grasp of the situation but didn’t expect the fallout to be this huge.

It was like that butterfly flapping its wings on the other side of the Earth; I didn’t think my actions would ripple all the way to the league.

I felt like some kind of influencer.

“…Do you have any thoughts on this?”

The man, who introduced himself as part of the league’s direct sales department, spoke cautiously, as if trying not to ruffle my feathers.

If he’s that careful, I’ll just feel more awkward.

On the one hand, I could understand why he was being cautious.

With the time running short, I had heard there was no one else but me to revive the league.

But honestly, he didn’t need to be so antsy.

It took a while to listen to the whole story, but making a decision was quick.

“I’ll do it. Commentary.”

“Ah, thank you. Is tomorrow okay? We’ll bring you to our association.”

The reason I accepted the offer was simple.

It wasn’t out of pity for them or for the esports fans, nor was it because the pay was good.

It was simply… because I couldn’t stand the fact that our country’s league was falling behind on the world stage.

I wouldn’t say I had strong patriotism, but I could at least be proud of my gamer pride.

This gamer pride extended to international competitions as well.

As someone who dreamed of being a pro, I had affection for the league and hoped our country’s players would shine on the international stage.

That wish seemed to be coming true… for a while.

The decline started relatively recently. Knowing that this shortfall might continue frustrated me to no end.

How long has our country, known as the nation of gaming, been ignored like this?

Perhaps due to more viewers tuning in to broadcasts, sometimes foreigners would pop into the chat room while I was playing EOW.

With nothing to do, they would spam messages in their language, which when run through a translator would say things like, “Lol, is this Challenger level or a third division?”

As a gamer, that was super, super infuriating.

Even if I achieved the number one rank on the Korean server, I still wouldn’t shake off the label of third division.

That was the biggest reason. And another reason was that I thought I should branch out into some external activities.

I wondered if making my face known in various places would help me get used to broadcasting.

It was a mix of various reasons that led me to accept.

“Well then, see you tomorrow.”

“Yes, take care.”

I ended the call and thought.

Hmm, but can I really commentate in front of ten thousand viewers?

As long as I don’t freeze up, it’ll be a win. I’ll just keep an eye on the situation and say only what’s necessary.

The guy earlier said he wouldn’t expect anything extraordinary from me, right?

With a trembling heart, I lay down on my bed.

[Is the EOW Spring Opening Match happening?]
Seems like it’ll be going on for three months starting from the 20th, here’s the league schedule below.
(League schedule link.)

Yup: Yeah~ I’m not watching the sh*t league.

Yup: Ticket sales used to be tough, but it seems like they’re okay recently? People probably aren’t going.

Nope: Just lost interest in the league lol, if you’re not a real fan you probably won’t watch.

Yup: Nice voice, looks like a celebrity. Messed up the pro-gamer debut.

Nope: Park Kyung-tae, you piece of sh*t.

Nope: Why do I need to see guys playing games when they can be this ugly lol.

Nope: That’s harsh.

[The returning EOW opening match is with a special guest! (Guest: Streamer Mollru.) << What is this?]

Calling Mollru as a commentator??? The EOW league is gonna die lol.

Yup: What’s going on? What’s going on? What’s going on?

Yup: I came here to complain but this is official ㄷㄷ

Yup: How did they get Mollru? He probably didn’t wanna touch the league.

Yup: Just Moll—Ruler.

Nope: Moll-Ruler’s generosity;

Nope: The broad-minded Moll-Ruler…

Nope: (Grandiose “sigh” sound)

Nope: (Don’t challenge the Moll-Ruler “sigh” sound)

[No, if I’m gonna be a commentator, shouldn’t I at least mention it?]

Doesn’t this sound like a lie? It’s a bit uneasy.

Yup: Just be thankful they left a notice for a break.

Yup: Looking at the break day and the tournament day, it matches up.

Yup: You’re asking for a lot lol. Fine, just leave it to Moll-Ruler to say thank you or stay quiet.

Yup: Just Moll—Ruler.

*

“Hello, Mollru.”

“It’s not an acquaintance… well, we did one tournament together, right? Haha.”

The two people exchanging handshakes were Bang Hyeongjae, the caster who met during the switch EOW streamer battle, and Kang Seonghun.

“Hello, nice to meet you today.”

“You look much better in person.”

“Thank you…”

Compliments about my looks never get old, no matter how often I hear them.

Will there ever come a day when I’m used to it?

As we shook hands, I thought what a small world it was.

We talked a bit to get familiar and looked around the venue.

“The commentary box is over here, Mollru is in the center.”

“…Why am I in the center?”

“Haha, you know why. It’ll look better from that angle.”

Usually, the caster sits in the middle with the commentators on either side.

But today, I, someone who wasn’t an official commentator but merely a guest commentator, had somehow ended up in the middle.

I turned my gaze towards the sales department person who accompanied me, and he cleared his throat while avoiding my eyes.

Oh well, right. It’s not like you did anything wrong. This must’ve all been ordered from above.

Since I’d gotten a lot of benefits, I’ll let it slide.

Surprisingly, the contract conditions were quite favorable for me.

There were just a set number of appearances with no specific dates or intervals prescribed.

Just a few times during the season, and I just needed to tell them in advance when I wanted to appear.

The pay was also surprisingly… generous.

Even Si-young, who was an expert in this area, confirmed that the conditions on our side were good.

When I asked why the conditions were so favorable, I heard it was because the new official in charge had a lot of affection for the league.

I wanted to ask if that meant the previous person didn’t care, but asking that here would be a bit psycho, right?

They probably pocketed a bit secretly, like many high-ranking officials do.

Anyway, it was a good thing for me.

“Well, since you’re inexperienced, Mollru, let’s go with you responding appropriately to our comments, got it?”

“Yes. Is there a script or anything?”

“There’s no script, just know that at this timing, you say this. Also, we tend to ad-lib a bit based on the mood. If you want to jump in at times, feel free to do so.”

Ad-lib? There’s no way I could do that.

That’s what I thought.

*

“Alright, today’s match is YDE vs. S#3. I’m the caster Bang Hyeongjae, and beside me is the familiar face, Kang Seonghun.”

“Familiar face… I guess that’s true. I am.”

“The reason I called you a familiar face is that some of you might’ve heard earlier, we have a very special guest commentator today.”

“Hello, I’m streamer Mollru.”

Wowww—!

When Bang Hyeongjae and Kang Seonghun introduced themselves, a huge roar filled the venue that hadn’t been there before.

“Wow… I expected but the energy is really something. Don’t you think so, Kang Seonghun?”

“It makes sense. Mollru, who’s commentating today, is the prettiest guest commentator we’ve ever had.”

“Let’s not forget that all previous guest commentators were men. Please remember that.”

The live broadcast not only reached the venue but was also being streamed on various broadcasting platforms.

People poured out their reactions to this newly introduced face.

[?? Is he a newscaster? Who is that guy?]

[They said he’s a streamer lol, are your ears blocked?]

[Mollru? Isn’t she the reason the entire league got wrecked?]

[Girl… heh…]

[She’s so pretty lol, like a celebrity.]

[Is she a female cam streamer?]

[Don’t you know the Emperor of Switch, Mollru?]

[Just Moll—Ruler.]

[Her body is stunning;]

[No, no, Challenger 15th?]

[?]

[Lol, with that face Challenger 15th? What are the pros doing?]

[It’s an empty house right now, but that’s still a high rank lol.]

[Claiming to be an ex-pro, I bet he’ll watch the game better than Jun-Gu who was here last time.]

Overall, the feedback was positive.

The official broadcast of the EOW league is notoriously known for its messy chat room.

With people who are serious about games, those who just have nothing to do and watch, and angry people, the scale is so massive that they can’t enforce bans as strictly as other streams.

If someone doesn’t like the looks, they’ll comment on looks; if they don’t like comments, they’ll comment on that; if the skills aren’t to their liking, they’ll comment on skills.

Mollru achieved a remarkable feat of gaining recognition in a chat room where people tear each other apart for various reasons.

[From now on, only call Mollru as a guest commentator ㅇㅇ no debate.]

[Ah lol, this commentary is actually enjoyable.]

[Girl, say something!]

“Mollru, as a guest commentator, is Challenger 15th in EOW and has probably faced the players preparing for this match in ranked games. Is there anyone who particularly stands out in your memory?”

“Um… YDE Jinseok and S#3 Minsu come to mind. When we played as a team, the games were usually pretty smooth.”

“I see, so we have a strong player recognized by Mollru on each team! That’ll make the games even more exciting to watch.”

[Mollru recognized these guys ㄷㄷ]

[Extreme cap blushing;]

[Sh*t, I should’ve gone pro.]

[I might be a bit envious;;]

[Wow, now even in casual games, they’re getting recognized.]

Mollru’s commentary debut was successfully completed, earning her the title of Goddess of Casual Games.
