Hunter x Hunter: Limitless Ascension

Chapter 7: Nen Ability x Potion

The endless blue sky. An airship cruised through the white clouds, drifting steadily beneath the vast expanse above. Kevin sat in his seat, sipping the coffee in front of him, gazing out at the scenery beyond the window.

Honestly, before researching it, he never imagined that the primary mode of air travel in this world would be airships—completely antique in his previous life, instead of the airplanes he was familiar with.

Ground transportation, however, was exactly the same as back then. Well, maybe that's just one of the many differences between worlds.

"Dear passengers, we are about to arrive in Zaban City. Passengers disembarking, please prepare…" Hearing the announcement, Kevin stood and began gathering his things. He had packed a lot—everything strange he found in the jeep he had brought along. Only the jeep itself had been sold off.

He disembarked, hailed a taxi, and arrived at what was supposedly his 'home.' To be honest, it was located in a rather remote area of the city, practically on its outermost ring.

In other words, the suburbs.

Still, Kevin was quite pleased with the single-family house. "Come on, give me something—some memory fragments! You're supposed to be a top student, not a blockhead."

The building was three stories high, with white exterior walls and a yard enclosed by a two-meter-high fence. Beside the yard stood a detached garage.

After wandering the property, Kevin found a basement using fragmented memories. It

was surprisingly spacious—likely half the size of the entire house and yard combined.

The basement resembled a laboratory more than a storage space.

Not a sinister lab, but one clearly used for studying chemical substances. Flasks, droppers, and materials of all kinds—most of which he couldn't even identify.

One special storage unit held biological samples preserved in unknown liquids: strange animals, oversized limbs, brains that looked uncomfortably human, eyeballs, and other internal organs.

"…Doesn't seem like I was a good guy," Kevin muttered to himself, unsettled.

This place gave off a shady vibe. Still, it was only here that memory fragments began to surface—moments of him working at the potion table.

That also explained why there hadn't been much in the jeep, apart from various ground-up herbs and categorized powders. Fortunately, according to his personal files, this body had graduated from the Royal Medical School of the Kukan'yu Kingdom—a school Kevin confirmed ranked among the world's top institutions.

No doubt about it, he was a top student. His major? Pharmacy.

He'd even just spotted a few potions stored in a small preservation cabinet.

"Wait… if this was a lab, there should be experimental logs, right?" That sudden thought lit a spark in Kevin. He searched quickly and found a trove of experimental journals in a nearby cabinet.

They were fairly disorganized—full of brainstorming, notes, and sudden flashes of inspiration. And then he saw some truly wild entries. "Life energy… Aura… Nen… soul…"

As he read deeper, something triggered—a surge of memory that felt instinctual, like something etched into his very being. So deep it bordered on reflex, like language or basic thought.

A superpower he must have developed sometime after graduation. It felt too familiar to be foreign. Emotion poured out from the fragments—pride, madness, and joy.

Kevin raised his hands. Even without applying the technique Ging had described, he could now clearly see his own 'Aura' flowing outward. The Aura began to gather, condensing, forming a solid object.

A scale.

But this wasn't just any scale—it had three plates arranged in a triangle. The main frame was crystal-like, with gold, silver, and copper trays. Beneath it sat a thick ten-centimeter base, hollowed at the center with a rounded receptacle.

"A Moment of Dream."

Kevin muttered the name instinctively. He didn't know how he remembered it, but he also immediately knew how to use it. Though it looked like a scale, it functioned more like a witch's cauldron: a pharmacy table.

To use it, he'd place three different [ingredients] on the gold, silver, and copper trays, respectively, then set a suitable empty vial in the hollow base.

By activating the ability, the machine would refine a potion with effects and properties that were partially random. But then—

"Wait, no…" Kevin rubbed his temples. A dissonance had surfaced—his current understanding conflicted with the memory embedded in his mind.

When he activated the ability, 'A Moment of Dream' had intuitively explained its own operation. Yet his memory told a different story.

Why? Could he be lying to himself? But what would be the point?

Originally, only biological materials—real, tangible ingredients—could be used. Now, a new option had appeared: minerals.

Of course, they had to be items in his possession—materials that belonged to him. In the past, he had to consume a potion to understand its effects. Now, he could get a sense of the outcome by simply placing the ingredients.

A built-in 'estimation' function. Was this a power-up? Or was it because of his transmigration?

Kevin had no idea. He didn't even have detailed knowledge about Nen's abilities. But now he understood why those who could use Aura were called Nen users.

The object before him was clearly born of Aura, and it turned his understanding of Aura upside down.

It wasn't just energy to boost the body or shoot out in waves—it could create real, physical tools. Was that even logical?

Who cared? He was in another world.

Kevin accepted the logic easily. After transmigrating, possessing a new body, and dealing with memory fusion, this was barely surprising in comparison.

So he started experimenting with his newfound ability while gathering information. The thrill of gaining superpowers was irresistible. If not for the risk of running into another Nen user, he would've been using and training constantly.

Now that he was back 'home,' he finally felt safe enough to relax. Despite the chaos in his heart, his body naturally let down its guard.

He was already becoming more adept at controlling the flow of Aura. Perhaps it was muscle memory—everything felt intuitive. And since Aura was the energy of life, using it to strengthen his body seemed like the most basic application.

He managed that effortlessly. It felt smooth, natural—probably also due to muscle memory.

Projecting the Aura outward was still tricky, though.

And so, time passed as he immersed himself in practice and experimentation.
