Chapter 238: Chapter 129: Aftermath

Almost seconds after Glenn collapsed backward in unconsciousness, the door to the Room of Requirement swung open, revealing Hermione.

Though Glenn had assured her that exhaustion was a normal aftermath of soul surgery, Hermione couldn't suppress her worry. She feared Glenn might have overexerted himself.

Thus, as soon as she returned to her dormitory last night, she went to bed early and woke at the crack of dawn, rushing straight to the Room of Requirement.

Despite mentally preparing herself, the chaotic scene that greeted her still made Hermione's eye twitch involuntarily.

Stepping over dried bloodstains, kicking aside shattered diary remnants, and navigating around scattered alchemical devices, Hermione finally reached Glenn's side.

"You really know how to make people worry..."

Her voice trembled slightly, low and soft without a hint of reproach. Gently, she brushed aside the sweat-, blood-, and grime-matted hair from Glenn's forehead, revealing his unconscious, pale, and utterly exhausted face. Using her small hands, she tenderly wiped it clean.

Biting her lip, Hermione retrieved the Elixir of Life she had prepared from her protective charm, uncorked it, and attempted to open Glenn's mouth.

Of course, Glenn's mouth, weakened by exhaustion, opened easily. But for Hermione, figuring out how to feed an unconscious person the Elixir of Life and follow-up healing potions presented a significant challenge.

"I guess this is the only way..."

Hermione murmured to herself.

........................

Administering medicine mouth-to-mouth was absolutely out of the question. In normal circumstances, feeding water or anything else to an unconscious person this way would be impractical.

Not to mention that deeply unconscious patients often have weakened or absent swallowing reflexes, making it impossible for liquids or medicine to pass through the esophagus into the stomach. Additionally, introducing foreign objects into the mouth of someone who has lost consciousness could lead to aspiration, resulting in severe choking—a highly dangerous situation.

Thus, the correct course of action would be to seek medical help immediately rather than attempting to manage the situation alone.

Ah, but that's in normal circumstances. In the wizarding world, with just a touch of household magic, such issues can be perfectly resolved by the rescuer~

Thanks to Glenn's previous reminders, our studious Hermione had long mastered household spells!

Using gentle magic to envelop the Elixir of Life and healing potions, Hermione guided them into Glenn's mouth and assisted in moving them down his esophagus.

Once the medicines were administered, Hermione carefully laid Glenn down on the sofa, resting his head on her lap.

Next, it was time to clean Glenn's body of bloodstains and tend to the slightly cracked wounds.

"Sleep for a while, Glenn."

Hermione's small hand gathered holy power, glowing softly as she gently smoothed the furrowed brows of the boy in her lap. Like soothing a child plagued by nightmares, she murmured softly.

As the white light infused him and Hermione's gentle words reached him, Glenn's furrowed brows gradually relaxed...

........................

"…"

Inside the Room of Requirement, on the bed, Glenn woke up.

Opening his eyes, he assessed his condition, noting that his mind lacked the searing pain he had anticipated, and the cracks in his skin had been completely healed.

The sensation was akin to recovering after running to the point of complete exhaustion—a refreshing feeling, as though every cell in his body was breathing deeply.

Testing his movements, Glenn discovered someone was holding his hand.

"Hermione?"

Gently squeezing the small hand in his grasp, Glenn didn't need to think twice. The absence of the post-surgery aftereffects he had expected, the clean clothes replacing his tattered ones, and his body free of grime—all of this was undoubtedly thanks to Hermione.

"I'm here. You're awake?"

The familiar, reassuring voice came from beside his bed. Turning his head, Glenn saw Hermione seated nearby, levitating her Charms textbook in the air with magic while directing a quill and notebook to jot down notes. Judging by her focus, she was likely recording her study insights.

Although Hogwarts had granted a holiday yesterday due to the Chamber of Secrets incident being resolved, both yesterday and today were technically school days. Hermione hadn't let her absence from class while caring for Glenn deter her from her studies. At this moment, she was still the diligent scholar she had always been.

"Thanks for cleaning up the mess."

Glenn's left hand held Hermione's firmly, while his right hand supported him as he sat up.

Although Hermione's magic, potions, and holy power had healed his injuries and mental fatigue, his physical exhaustion could only recover naturally. Now, he felt his entire body weak and sore.

Just as Glenn attempted to rise, he was gently pushed back onto the bed by a small hand.

Expressionless, Glenn looked at Hermione, who puffed her cheeks in displeasure, her tone carrying a hint of reproach.

"Rest. Injured and exhausted individuals should stay in bed. Listen carefully: until I deem you fully recovered, you're not allowed to do anything."

"Forget about soul essence and alchemical constructs for now. The most important thing is to recover quickly."

Hermione had been upset with Glenn for hiding the consequences of dealing with Voldemort's soul fragment in the diary. Now, seeing Glenn's workaholic tendencies, she didn't need to guess what he intended to do next.

The past was done, and Hermione knew lecturing Glenn further wouldn't change what had already happened. She also understood his good intentions—his desire not to worry her—and trusted his capabilities.

But this infuriating patient was now trying to drag his weary body back to work?!

How could she let that slide?!

"Hermione, I want to—"

Pushed back onto the bed, Glenn stared at the ceiling, pondering for a moment before breaking his silence. Just as he began to speak, Hermione covered his mouth.

"No, you don't."

Hermione deliberately kept a stern face, refusing to let Glenn voice his thoughts. She wanted him to understand that she was very upset.

...

Even if she wasn't genuinely angry, Hermione decided she would act the part convincingly.

But to Hermione's surprise, Glenn didn't give up so easily. He reached up and gently removed her hand from his mouth.

"I want to use the bathroom."

"…Oh."
