Chapter 1: CHAPTER 1
"Good morning Ms. Cheng." She nodded.
"Who is she and why is everyone greeting her so respectfully." An intern asked.
"She is a secretary." Shen Mu replied.
"Just a secretary and she receives such treatment." She responded.
"Don't ever speak ill of her if you want to survive in this company." Shen Mu replied.
"What do you mean?"
"In this company it is inevitable to not get in trouble, and when you do, she is the only one that can save you from being fired." She replied.
Cheng Xiao walked into the CEO's office.
"Mr. Xu your coffee." She said and placed the freshly brewed coffee on the table.
"Cheng spot on as always. What is my schedule for today?" He asked and reached for the cup.
"In one hour you need to attend the meeting with the Jiang Enterprise."
"Do you think that company is worth of my visit?" He asked and took a sip of his coffee.
"No! But you do still need to make an appearance." She responded.
"Then you have to come with me." He said as a matter of statement leaving no room to argue.
"Don't I always follow you wherever you go?" She responded and took her eyes off the tablet in her hands.
"With the way you said it makes it sound so bad." He spoke.
"Isn't!"
"Ms. Cheng you wound me." He said with a pout.
"Oh please." She responded and handed him a document.
"What is this?" He asked as he reached for it.
"First business of the day." She responded.
On the other side inside the office the employees typed away, the only a person could hear was the sound of the keyboard tapping away.
"How long has Ms. Cheng worked here." An intern asked.
"This would round up to be seven to be precise." Shen Mu responded.
"That is a long time." Another one added.
"Yes, it has, and she didn't actually apply as a secretary." Shen Mu spoke.
Before she could start to tell them, the history Cheng Xiao walked out of the CEO's office and went to her seat. Shen Mu stood up and walked up to her.
"Cheng Xiao do you want to get coffee?" She asked.
"Sure, I could a cup right now." She responded and stood up.
They walked together to the elevator and wherever Cheng Xiao passed the employees would either stand to greet her or those passing they would bow to her. She just nodded and continued walking she was used to these. Ever since everyone saw that she was the only female to get close to the CEO, they always treated her with the same respect as they did with the CEO.
"Look at you, it's like you are the CEO himself." Shen Mu remarked.
"It is not like they are going to stop even if I tell them to stop." Cheng Xiao responded.
"What do you expect? Everyone looks straight for you when they did anything wrong." Shen Mu spoke.
"Well, I hope they can stop. Its not like I am going to be here all the time." She said.
"And where would be going?" Shen Mu asked.
"Well, the designing team is having an open position at the moment I am going to finally move there." She responded.
"Why do you want to transfer there now when you are doing good now?" Shen Mu asked.
"Shen Mu you know that when I applied at this company, I had applied to be a designer but got hired as a secretary. I didn't have a problem then because I thought it was only temporary." Cheng Xiao responded.
"Then what if they say they already found a replacement like all these years?" Shen Mu asked.
"Then I'll just quit!" Cheng Xiao responded.
"WHAT?" Shen Mu yelled and stopped for a minute. She pulled Cheng Xiao's arm.
"Why would you quit?" Shen Mu asked.
"It has been seven years, and you know how much I loved designing back then. I can't waste my talent, if they won't give me the position this year then I'll just apply elsewhere." She responded.
