Highschool DxD: Despair over Despair

Chapter 8: Chapter 8

"At the first time, I do my best to try again against the inevitable tragedy. In the second time, I become disgusted towards the inevitable tragedy. The third time, disgust is overwhelmed into painfulness. But by the seventh time, this all becomes a farce comedy."

Disclaimer: Don't take this piece of crap seriously.

After trying to bend my abilities to my will. I more or less figured some things out.

Number one, my abilities are more like superpowers, for instance, flames. I had tried breathing it out—

But no. I gave up on the idea.

Hence, I tried wielding it in a different way, and what do you know? It worked! Yatta!

But that's the problem. There's a limit, and I obviously can't just start spamming Fuga.

However, I can do things like coat my knife with flames,

I've also tried adding penetration to it, and I succeeded, although it's kind of hard to maintain.

As for the rest of Ddraig's abilities, I can't use them, at least now.

The most beneficial amongst most of them is «Doubling and Transference,» which according to layman's terms are «Boost and Transfer.».

However, I feel that with time, I'd be able to use them. The same is with the other abilities.

Are there some prerequisites I don't know about yet?

Probably.

Then, I'd like to imagine I'd get my own form of Balance Breaker then, though, since it's different with me; I might as well call it Limit Break.

One more thing I noticed is that, inside me, I feel different. Pause.

Like, I feel fluffy inside for some unknown reason.

Similar to how one feels when they have a stomach ache, that type of feeling.

This isn't a stomach ache, but then, I don't know what this fluffy feeling is; hence, I put it to the side for now.

"Stamina training, huh? Honestly, if I want to use these powers to the maximum ability, I'd have to stop being human."

I muttered such words aloud, pushing my hair to the back as I let out a sigh.

Naturally, that didn't mean I was planning on becoming a devil or an angel, far from it.

Though it was just my speculation, I felt it was so.

Of course, that would mean my own version of Balance Break would be harsher and probably stronger.

As for the resentment of the Boosted Gear and Juggernaut Drive, I'm not sure if I even have them in my arsenal.

Perhaps I'll know the day I achieve Limit Break.

'Hehehe~ Guess I'll have to intensify my training~'

I thought with a smile on my face.

"Phew. It's night already."

Looking out the window, I saw the moon was already up, and it was increasingly approaching midnight.

All in a day's work. I wonder what tomorrow will bring me.

-3RD POV: Rias and Gang- Now. We switch perspective accordingly with a third style of narration for this scene that is now taking place in a different location.

It was night. But a few days ago. The day she had hoped to go was well for her.

While people were off to bed in preparations for the next day, it wasn't the same with a certain red-haired girl.

Beautiful couldn't describe her; additionally, with her fair white skin, voluptuous body, and blue eyes, she was no doubt a woman that made teenage boys fall in love at first sight.

However, currently, this beautiful young woman pranced around her office while her club members looked at her with worry plastered on her face.

Club members may not be the right word here, as there is no way a club would be having a physical meeting by this time.

Yes. These people weren't human, but rather devils.

But what does it matter?

Unlike what most humans believed devils to be, they, however, are flesh and blood like every other human.

They too can die.

While they possess supernatural powers and extended lifespans, they, however, don't have expired lifespans.

In a way or the other, you could say they had limitations.

Their lifespan is around ten thousand years, and that was all for them.

And at this moment, like every other human, on the red-haired's face—the leader of the club of secretly devils—she had a look of frustration on her face.

"It's obvious I gave him the paper, but what could have happened?"

She bit her finger as she thought hard about it.

Yes. It was her mistake for not keeping a close eye on them, but she couldn't risk it, not when that fallen angel was there.

She didn't want to alert them.

Mostly, she had just hoped that by the time whatever would happen happens, the boy activates the paper.

And behold, it was time.

The teleportation had activated.

She had been excited way beyond belief, but to her dismay, the moment her teleportation circle lit up…

It was extinguished.

Like a cold bucket of water had been poured upon her. That was how it was.

She couldn't believe it. By the time she'd called for her queen and gone there, her target… the one who was supposed to give her hope—or at least she thought—was sprawled there, eyes closed, dead.

He was gone.

His soul was gone.

His body was cold.

The floor was painted red. Like the colour of her hair.

Sad? Remorse? As if she could feel that. She hadn't known him long enough to feel that, but as a compassionate person as she was, she felt something close to that.

Though it was mostly because the person who she had pinned her hopes on was now gone.

And that was it.

Now that she didn't have a pawn to rely on, and her marriage was coming close to her, this was no different than the end of the world.

"Relax, Rias."

However, Rias was not the only one here.

Her best friend, Sona Sitri, is a young bespectacled woman with a slim figure, with black hair styled in a short bob cut and violet eyes.

She's also the younger sister of the Satan Leviathan, which made her and Rias equal, additionally that they had also been childhood friends.

Sona sat down on one of the two sofas that faced each other.

Sona's peerage members, who also made up the student council, all stood behind her.

"Sona, I can't relax. How did this happen? Nay, tell me, Sona."

Rias had said, spreading her hand before putting both hands over her eyes.

On the other hand, Sona crossed her hands under her chest, closing her eyes as she thought about it.

"There's a possibility the Fallen interfered with it. They must have noticed, which would mean they had been there when the teleportation spell activated."

Sona had given her logical thinking.

No matter how much you look at this, this logical reasoning had the highest percentage.

To those who didn't know how it happened, it would appear like this to them.

Another would be an illogical reasoning since the supernatural was involved in it.

"And if that were not the case… A third party may have been involved."

Sona further let out such a statement, making everybody wide-eyed at her statement.

"Hmm… Kaichou has a point."

Tsubaki Shinra, a beautiful young bespectacled woman with long, straight black hair with split bangs and heterochromia eyes.

Beside Sona was her, who tilted her glasses up as she followed Sona's line of reasoning.

She—Tsubaki Shinra—was the student council's vice president, additionally Sona Sitri's queen.

"And, what do you mean by that?"

The person who spoke next was Rias's queen, who kept a finger by her cheek with a tilted head.

She too like Rias is an exceedingly beautiful young woman with a voluptuous figure; additionally, with her black hair and violet eyes, she made herself extremely seductive and attractive.

"It means it is probably the work of another person, different from the Fallen, but surely aware of the supernatural world."

Sona came to such conclusions, leaving half of Rias confused.

"But why would anyone do that!?"

Rias didn't understand. If there was really a third party involved, why would anyone be that cruel to do such a thing?

But asking Sona was meaningless.

Sona wouldn't know; she wasn't Michael, and Michael himself, though he's the leader of heaven, isn't omniscient, nor is her brother, who is also the Lucifer.

"I don't know. I have no way of knowing, but I can only speculate so."

She then looked over at Koneko.

"Koneko, you said he—Hyoudou Issei—has a dragon-like smell, no?"

To that question, Koneko herself nodded her head, which had basically confirmed their guess.

Issei had a Dragon Type Sacred Gear.

If Rias lucked out, then it was probably a Longinus. And according to their knowledge, the White one has awakened; that would mean…

Issei was probably this generation's Red Dragon Emperor.

"Is it possible that the third party knew of this and wanted to eliminate Issei-kun because of that?"

"Hn, it's possible, back there, I was able to smell a human amongst the scent that was left there."

"Hah? Why didn't you say it until now?"

Akeno was the first person to speak up, her tone, naturally, sad as she recalled the state Issei was left in.

Koneko was then the next to speak up.

Naturally, Koneko, who had perceived that smell, even though it was distant, mixed in with the disturbing smell around there and had thought it wasn't possible, had held onto it until now.

However, with Sona confirming that a third person was likely now, it made her speak up.

"Buchou, I'm sorry; I didn't think it was possible."

Koneko said timidly. Coupled with her small stature—her white hair and looks that would make you think of a cat—Rias had let out a sigh.

"I'm sorry, Koneko. I don't blame you."

Rias eventually relented, falling onto the couch, with her hand covering her eyes.

"Even so… why?"

Was this the so-called human greed?

If it were so, wouldn't it be on par or even greater than theirs?

Disobedience led Adam and Eve out of the garden. Envy led Cain to kill Abel. Fornication led Sodom and Gomorrah to be destroyed.

In a sense, humans, if they wanted, could be worse than even those who are devils.

"Then, Koneko, can you identify who the smell belongs to?"

The one who spoke up now wasn't any of the females in the room.

It was a blonde-haired male with exceedingly handsome features that made him well known as the one and only male prince of Kuoh.

Most males obviously are jealous of his looks and his ability to make ordinary women fawn over him, well—except from a certain someone.

"Hn. No. His scent is mixed up with other scents."

Koneko covered her nose. It was stifling for her.

For her, who had a supernatural sense of smell, it's obvious she had a far better sense of smell than anybody present.

Rias, who had looked at Koneko in hopes, soon dropped her shoulder once more.

Not only did she smell the iron-like smell of blood, that of the fallen angel was smelt; additionally, another mixed in the various kinds of scents that were there was smelt.

She could also faintly smell the trail of the scent, but she hadn't minded it, as she too believed it was impossible.

Now she regretted it.

"Buchou. I'm sorry."

Koneko clenched the corners of her skirt while gritting her teeth.

"It's not your fault, Koneko-chan."

Akeno brought her into a hug, stuffing the small girl's head into her bosom as she caressed the young girl.

"Yes. Akeno is right. It's not your fault, Koneko."

Rias finally said, bringing Koneko into a warm hug before looking at Sona, who also agreed with a nod.

It wasn't only Sona; everybody agreed.

After all, this sort of situation had never happened until now.

Now, they would be on the lookout for who this person is.

Other than that.

"So, what are you going to do now? The person you want to recruit, it's unfortunate what happened to him, but what are you going to do now? Any ideas?"

To that, Rias shook her head.

She only paid attention to those with stronger limited potential, like Issei.

Obviously, it was sealed up, but his was brighter than anyone else's, additionally, with a different colour.

All the rest were the same.

"Even if they may not be as strong as Issei, at least you should get someone, for example. Mitsuya from 2B."

"He's one of the few capable class reps I'm aware of; even if he does have limited potential, you should have quite the strategist on your hands."

Sona had given her advice, followed by Tsubaki, who nodded. In terms of grades too, he was high on the school's overall.

Except for the fact that he quite keeps to himself a lot, his smarts would at least help Rias in one way or the other.

That was what Sona had thought.

"Haah. I doubt I have any reason to be interested in him, but I'll give it a try."

There's no reason not to try.

Additionally, he does seem different than the rest, so, there was no reason not to try.

"Then, if he doesn't work, then the Kendo Girls, Katase and her fellow, should work; they are trained in swordsmanship too; they could be your second knight and pawn, respectively."

"I can also train them up too, Rias Buchou."

Tusbaki and Kiba were the next to add that line, and Akeno, who had thought it'd be the best time, had used this chance to let out a joke.

"Fufu, or you can ask your elder brother, no?"

"Please, Akeno, stop."

"Awn~ Does Buchou no longer need the help of her brother?"

"Akeno!!!"

-Author's Note-:

With that, the chapter comes to an end. Phew. I'd originally plan to update ts at snail's pace, but I was having a little bit too much fun ideas kept on popping up left and right.

But that's right, it's as the MC describes it as. I want to avoid most cliche way of detecting the MC by saying oh I sense a mana or ah, he smells like a dragon by doing things in an extremely unconventional manner.

And it really works. It may be stupid, but it works, that's why I decided to go this route. His abilities are more Authority based, with Stamina Consumption, rather than Mana + Stamina consumption.

Of course, because of it's like that, it will be a stamina limit-based, but that's the plan.

Additionally, I plan on making him a Spiritual—oops, I can't believe I spoilt it like that, anyways. As long as the process isn't leaked, all is well.

Any hose, till next chapter then~

Next chapter will be updated first on this website. Come back and continue reading tomorrow, everyone!
