Chapter 4: Chapter 3
Chapter 3
"Special One? What's that?"
"Huh?" Asked Sung-Yoon, snapping out of the awful mood, "What's a special one?" He repeated, curious and interested to know.
What was this special one? And.... who was Chae Joon?
Well, now wasn't the time to know about Chae Joon. Maybe later. Right now, he was more interested in knowing what a special one was.
It might help with his situation.
"Ah, you don't know what a special one is," Sung-Yoon said, thinking about where to begin.
But Hae Jin didn't think he had all the time in the world. He wanted to know what this 'special one' was now!
"Sung-Yoon, I don't have all the time in the world" Hae Jin stated annoyingly, drawing Sung-Yoon out of her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh, wow, I didn't know you're a businessman. Huh, you can't even step out"
Hae Jin rolled his eyes, "Way to open up my wounds"
"Isn't it great when we reach an understanding?" Hae Jin rolled his eyes again, "Just tell me" he said.
"Fine. So, a special one or should I say, special ones, are for ghosts who need help. Born for ghosts like you" Sung-Yoon pointed a finger at Hae Jin, watching as his eyes widened in shock at her words.
"Ghosts who need help to find out their past life or to settle their unfinished businesses"
"So, what exactly are these special ones?"
"What else are they? Of course they're humans" answered Sung-Yoon, looking at Hae Jin like he was stupid.
What the.... What exactly was wrong with the question he asked?
*Sigh, he sighed.
"So, special ones are humans. I get it thanks"
"Good"
Special ones are humans. Chosen for ghosts who have unfinished businesses to settle. Ghosts who have no recollection of their past life.
Ghosts like him.
Meaning, he will be able to get back his past life and settle all his unfinished businesses (That's if he even had one) if he found his special one. This was great news!
All these years he has been trapped in this house, not once did he think about finding out about his past, his families and friends. He was more concerned about the fact that he was trapped in this forsaken house.
However, now, he wants to know about his past. Know about his family and friends.
Who were they? Did they ever think about him? Did they miss him?.........
He wanted his special one.
He needed his special one.
Hae Jin turned to Sung-Yoon's direction with a smile on his face. Surprising and confusing Sung-Yoon.
"Special one, how do I find my special one?" Oh, this was why he had that smile on his face.
Sung Yoon smiled, "I understand you want to know about your past life, your families and friends"
"Yes. How do I find them?"
"Well, Chae Joon did say......." Sung-Yoon paused on her words when she saw the confused look on Hae Jin's face at the mention of her friend, 'Chae Joon'.
"Oh, right. You don't know Chae Joon"
"Who's he? You mentioned him before"
"Yeah, that bastard! He left me when he found his special one" Sung-Yoon exclaimed angrily, only calming down when she looked up at Hae Jin who still had that confused look on his face.
*Sigh, she sighed.
"Chae Joon..... I thought of him as my friend" though she had no clue what Chae Joon thought of her.
Probably as a nuisance. Right, that had to be it. Recalling that annoyed look he had on his face every time she was around him, that had to be it.
Sung-Yoon shook her head, getting out of her thoughts before continuing her story.
"Chae Joon was the only one I could speak freely to. He was the only one I was comfortable with. The other ghosts in the cemetery were too unwelcoming and unfriendly. I was literally scared of them!. But Chae Joon....he was different"
But then.........
"Even though sometimes he ignored me when I spoke to him, he was still welcoming," Hae Jin smiled.
"But he left me without even saying goodbye. I had to find out about him from one of the depressed unwelcoming ghosts that he left. That too, with his special one"
Uh, poor Sung-Yoon. Hae Jin felt bad for her. The only one by her side left without even saying goodbye.
He didn't know how that felt.....well, he had no memories on how that felt but he could tell, it wasn't a good feeling judging by Sung-Yoon's mood.
"Special ones are humans. Humans.......... I know every ghost desires to feel like a human at least once in their life (As a ghost) before they cross over. Chae Joon is no different. I understand but he shouldn't have left just like that. I might be a ghost. I should not be having these emotions but you know,....." Sung-Yoon looked up at Hae Jin with so much sadness in her eyes, breaking Hae Jin's heart.
"I still have feelings. I still get hurt when I'm left alone. I was once a human"
"I understand you. I do" Sung-Yoon nodded, sniffing as she wiped the tears that made their appearance at some point while she was talking out her feelings.
Poor Sung-Yoon. He understood her. Hae Jin had no memories of being left behind by someone important to him but he understood her. He did.
"Enough about Chae Joon. So, any questions about what I said?"
Jeez she recovered too quickly.
"Ah, sure, yeah. So, how do I find my special one?" He repeated his question from earlier, "And how do you know a human is your special one?" He added another.
"Well, Chae Joon. He's the one who told me all about the reasons why a soul would still remain or get stuck in this world and also about special ones. I learnt a lot from him, I must say. And about your question, he said, one (a ghost who needs a special one) would know when they meet them"
"I don't get it. Is your special one the only human that can see you" Sung-Yoon let out laughter, "Ah no, they're the only human that can touch you"
"Oh, I see"
"You know, there are humans that can see us, talk to us but can never touch us. That's why God designed these special ones for us to recognize when they're able to touch us. You can also touch them. If you're able to,....."
'Without using any powers' Sung Yoon said in mind but didn't dare speak out. Using powers to touch humans was very dangerous. That was why it was a secret to some ghosts. Hae Jin must not know this. That was the only way he'll be able to find his true special one.
And..... It seemed he also didn't know how to use his powers nor did he know anything about it. That was good.
Touching a human without using powers meant they're your true special one.
And that's what Hae Jin deserved. A true special one.
"Then you're know, that they're your special one"
"Because ghosts can't touch humans?" Hae Jin asked, but it was more like a statement than a question which Sung-Yoon replied to.
"Right, because ghosts can't touch humans" a sad smile spread on Hae Jin's lips at the thought 'Ghosts couldn't touch humans' Even though some humans could see them, hear them, they still couldn't touch them.
Damn! It was so hard being a ghost.
"Also," Sung-Yoon said, getting Hae Jin out of those depressing thoughts as he looked up at her.
"Every ghost who needs a special one has only one. If you lose them, that's the end of you. That's all I know" and a deep frown made its way on Hae Jin's face
"What do you mean that's all you know?" Sung-Yoon let out laughter, "What do you mean? I don't need a special one. I already know how I died, why I’m still in this world. So, why would I want to know more about that?"
Gosh!, She was right but still.....he had to say Sung-Yoon was so annoying!
"Haven't you heard of gaining knowledge?"
Sung-Yoon rolled her eyes, stating "Oh, come on, I was never a model student when I was alive"
Oh, great! This was just great!
*Sigh, Hae Jin sighed, irritated but his mood quickly lit when he thought of his special one.
"Well, you've already given me great news! Now, I just have to find my special one." That way, he will be able to recover his lost memories.
"How will you find them? Yours could be anywhere!"
'For all we know, he or she isn't even born yet' she said in mind, deciding to keep it there.
She didn't have the heart to extinguish the burning flame of determination and happiness within Hae Jin at the thought of finding his special one.
"I don't care! I'm going to look for him or her!!"
Determined, decisive and overexcited, Hae Jin hurriedly got up, beaming with happiness.
But it didn't take long because Sung-Yoon burst his happy bubble with her 'words of reality'
"That's good but aren't you forgetting something? You, can't leave this house"
Great! Way to burst his bubble!!
Hae Jin dropped himself back on the couch, feeling sad, angry and disappointed.
Seeing this, Sung-Yoon thought, so, in the end, she ended up 'extinguishing the flame'
"How the hell can I leave this damn house!" Hae Jin yelled angrily.
"Just calm down"
"Easy for you to say. You're not the one trapped in this hellhole! You can go anywhere you want!"
"Hey, hey, hey, don't try me. My case is equally serious! I don't know for how long I'll have to stay in this world! I want to leave! Go to heaven and maybe work there"
Hae Jin smiled. Sung-Yoon talked as if she had been to heaven before.
"Me too," he said sadly. With the same sad expression and tone, he called out her name.
"Sung-Yoon"
"What? What's with that tone?"
"I'm scared. What if I never find my special one? What if I don't ever get out of this house? I'm so scared"
"Hae Jin, you......." Sung-Yoon said but didn't get to finish her sentence when suddenly, Hae Jin screamed out in excruciating pain, holding his head with both hands.
"Hae Jin! What's wrong?" A worried and anxious Sung-Yoon called out to him, rushing to his side.
Taking a seat on the couch beside him, she gently patted his back as she asked again, "What's wrong Hae Jin? You're scaring me" indeed she was, and it showed all over her beautiful face.
"M......My....h.....head......hurts" Hae Jin stammered and then yelled out in pain again.
Worried and anxious, Sung-Yoon could only watch as her new friend experienced the most immense pain he has never experienced before.
There was nothing she could do. There was no help, for ghosts like themselves and she could only watch, gently patting his back as a way of comfort for him to deal with the pain.
Hae Jin had no idea why he was in so much pain. Why his head suddenly hurt so much or what he was seeing.
He had no idea what caused it. Neither did he know, this sudden painful confusing experience was happening because of the sudden appearance of a certain human around the house.
