Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Duel with Lockhart
Poof! Poof! Poof!
A string of strange sounds came from Draco's body.
Instantly, the surrounding people looked at Draco with changed expressions, it was a gaze mixed with shock and ridicule.
"You all… why are you looking at me with that kind of gaze?!"
Draco shouted loudly, while at the same time reaching up to touch his own head. He felt something ticklish there.
But the moment his hand touched it, the soft furry sensation made Draco freeze.
The next second, a high-pitched scream burst from Draco's mouth. "This is simply unbelievable!"
Lockhart looked at Draco, who had already turned into a rabbit-headed person, and said, "Link definitely followed up that Disarming Charm with a secretly cast additional curse! The most important thing is, he hid it so well! Even I didn't notice!"
"Alright, Mr. Malfoy, don't panic, let me help you."
After saying this, Lockhart waved a stream of magical light toward Draco amid the crowd's laughter.
But unfortunately, his ordinary Finite Incantatem had no effect at all.
"Uh… now that's strange." A hint of confusion appeared on Lockhart's face.
Meanwhile, Draco was screaming for Lockhart not to touch him.
After what had just happened, he was now certain, Lockhart and Link were working together to prank him.
"Don't be like that, Mr. Malfoy. That was just an accident just now. Give me a few more tries, I'll succeed eventually."
"You think I'll believe you?!"
"Come now, don't be shy."
"Aaah!~"
Watching the farce in the crowd, Link's mood finally brightened a little.
The spell he cast on Draco was a special kind of Transfiguration, and unless someone used a specific reversion spell from within Transfiguration, ordinary Finite Incantatem wouldn't work on it at all.
And turning Draco into a rabbit-head had deeper meaning too.
After all, Draco's feelings toward Harry Potter were now practically public knowledge…
Thinking like this, Link gave a light laugh.
Just then, from the teacher's seating area, Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape walked out into the crowd, and as they passed by Link, both gave him a glare, clearly very dissatisfied with what Link had just done.
"You both know he deserved it." Link said cheerfully.
Hearing this, Snape had no reaction, but Professor McGonagall stopped in her tracks, pursing her lips as she looked at Link.
But before she could say anything to scold him, the crowd up ahead erupted into cheers, followed by Lockhart's annoyingly smug voice, "I told you, didn't I? Please believe me, I can do it!"
Link and the others looked toward the sound, and saw that Draco had already returned to normal, while Lockhart was striking a Poseidon-style superhero pose, soaking in the audience's applause.
Seeing this, Professor McGonagall's expression changed, and she ignored Link for now, rushing forward with Snape to examine Draco's condition.
Transfiguration was different from regular magic. They were genuinely afraid that Lockhart, this half-baked wizard, might have turned Draco's condition from something mild into something irreversible.
There had been precedents of this happening.
Unlike the worried Professor McGonagall, Link narrowed his eyes slightly.
As the spellcaster, he was very sure, Lockhart had indeed perfectly dispelled the Transfiguration he cast. Only… that kind of technique was not something a fraud like Lockhart could pull off.
'Tom Riddle's diary… you really did get your hands on it, didn't you? Lockhart!' Link roared in his heart, while a sinister smile crept across his face.
And at that moment, as if sensing something, Lockhart in the crowd suddenly turned his head, and locked eyes with Link.
"Link, that ended too fast just now, many students didn't even see it clearly." Lockhart said with his signature smile, "How about this, this time I'll be your opponent. Let's go one more round. What do you say?"
"Perfect timing!"
A flash of blue light flickered in Link's eyes, and the black ebony wand in his hand seemed to sense its master's excitement, beginning to tremble slightly.
"No! This ends now!"
Professor McGonagall, who was checking Draco's injuries, turned pale when she heard this, and immediately shouted.
However, Link and Lockhart were already walking toward that long table, and the surrounding students were leaving Draco's side and gathering over there instead.
This made the muscles on McGonagall's face start twitching again.
She raised her wand to stop them, but Snape grabbed her.
"Let them go."
"But…" McGonagall wanted to argue. But looking into Snape's deep and hollow eyes, she ultimately stopped moving.
At this point, on the long table, Link and Lockhart had already taken positions at either end, neither of them showing the slightest intention to redo the formal duel rituals.
"Are you ready, Link?"
Link didn't speak, but with his wand raised high and the unstable blue light flashing at the tip, he had already given his answer.
"Then… begin!"
"Incendio!"
Just as Lockhart finished speaking, the blue glow on Link's wand tip instantly turned red, and a basketball-sized orange-red fireball came roaring toward the opposite end.
"Oh! An advanced version of the Fire Curse? Link, your talent is really shocking! But… this fireball is a bit too slow, isn't it?"
"Volley of Arrows!"
Lockhart said gleefully as he raised his wand, and instantly dozens of fine arrows appeared, flying toward the fireball.
Seeing this, a glint of blue flashed in Link's eyes, and the corner of his mouth curled up slightly.
What Lockhart said was true, this fireball, evolved from the Incendio spell, was indeed too slow. Its flame wasn't stable enough, and it could easily be detonated midair by someone else.
However, this fireball released by Link wasn't meant to damage the enemy at all.
Staring at the slowly flying fireball, Link slightly raised his wand, and silently chanted a spell in his heart.
The next second, the huge fireball suddenly swelled in size again, and at its core, a deep blue core appeared.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion rang out.
The enormous fireball, midair, was directly detonated by the liquid it suddenly generated inside. The massive shockwave, and the light and heat, instantly blew away all the arrows, and also made the students below scream.
But the most important part, the liquid inside the fireball instantly vaporized under the flame's effect, carrying high-temperature white steam that burst outward violently, gradually covering up the figures of both Link and Lockhart, and most of the Great Hall.
"You fell for it." Within the fog, Link said softly, in a voice only he could hear.
Then, he raised his wand high. "Expelliarmus!"
A surging red glow shot out, ripping open a massive cylinder-shaped tunnel through the thick white mist.
But that wasn't the end.
Just as the red light left the wand tip, Link slightly moved his wand again.
Two completely transparent invisible blades flew out along the path carved by the red light.
