Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Battle Royale Game Part 4

The vegetable patch was in an uproar, filled with screams and laughter that had already drawn a crowd of onlookers.

Many students had come to watch, peering through the fence to see what was happening inside.

In the fourth round, Wade, who was now banned from using the Engorgement Charm, finally displayed his full skill set.

He combined the Disillusionment Charm and the Silencing Charm for stealth attacks.

The Supersensory Charm enhanced his perception.

Bird-Conjuring Charm for disrupting traps.

The Doubling Charm multiplied pumpkins and vines, causing everyone who thought they'd memorized the terrain to stumble and fall.

A Sliding Spell sent Fred, who was ready for a sneak attack, sliding uncontrollably and he ended up crashing into a pumpkin.

The Levitation Charm knocked Neville off balance.

The Full Body-Bind Curse immobilized Theo, who was hiding in the vines, rendering him completely helpless.

The Knockback Jinx made Harry spin through the air in two-and-a-half loops; when he landed, he was so disoriented that he was quickly petrified by a  Full Body-Bind Curse.

Wade expertly wielded spells like the Trip Jinx, Stunning Spell, and Disarming Charm as well. He also kept the Super Shield Charm active, which deflected any spells that managed to hit him.

When the last opponent fell and Wade stood completely unscathed, everyone finally understood the gap in their skill levels.

Wade alone knew more spells than all of them combined.

Most of them needed to stand still and carefully aim to cast a spell; if they tried casting while moving, the success rate was less than fifty percent, and hitting the target was a matter of luck.

Through this skirmish, Wade realized even more deeply the immense value of Professor Flitwick's notes and teachings.

In casual duels, everyone's skill levels seemed about the same. Wade's spells might have been a bit more powerful, with brighter beams.

But in actual combat, where others might only land one effective spell out of ten, Wade's spells hit their mark at least seven times out of ten.

With the added advantage of knowing the terrain, he made a one-against-nine battle look easy.

But Wade wasn't entirely satisfied.

Because, in truth, he had been hit multiple times, and during one intense moment of him being surrounded, his Shield Charm had nearly been broken.

Everyone was exhausted. They sat on the ground and reflected on the game.

Suddenly, a voice came from outside the fence: "Hey, Fred, what are you all doing? Count me in, will you?"

Fred turned around.

It was Lee Jordan, their dormmate and friend.

When they looked again, everyone was startled. A large crowd of students had gathered outside the fence and some were pressing their faces against it with eager eyes filled with excitement.

"Yeah, yeah! Let us join too!"

"It looks like so much fun!"

"Fred, George, come on, for the sake of all the times we copied homework together—don't leave me out!"

If students could sit through every Quidditch match, even when they couldn't see all the action, there was no way they'd resist a competitive game like this.

Although Fred was keen on including Lee Jordan, he didn't immediately say yes; instead, he looked over at Wade.

Wade didn't mind more people joining. The more, the better—it would challenge his magical abilities even further.

After estimating the size of the field, he asked, "Have them line up... Hagrid, could you keep order? No more than fifty at a time."

"Absolutely."

Hagrid agreed enthusiastically.

He loved this game—if it weren't too awkward to join in, he'd have jumped in himself.

Wade then asked the others, "This time, you won't ban me from using the Engorgement Charm again, right?"

Everyone's faces went pale, but then they remembered that the pain would be spread across more people. With that, they started looking forward to it.

"What game is this, anyway?" Lee Jordan asked excitedly as he stepped in.

The group exchanged glances, then answered in unison: "Battle Royale!"

Wade versus the entire group.

...

"Aaaaahhhh—"

Their screams pierced the sky.

Filch scoured the school rules but couldn't find an applicable section, so he stormed off to find Dumbledore.

"Headmaster, this is a serious violation! They should all be put in detention!" Filch said angrily.

"Calm down, Mr. Filch," Dumbledore said cheerfully. "Look at the children—so full of energy! I wonder if they'd let me join in…"

"Albus!" Professor McGonagall frowned. "The students could get hurt!"

Dumbledore popped a piece of honey toffee into his mouth and replied vaguely, "Madam Pomfrey has already prepared potions and bandages. Besides, the children actually have more restraint than we give them credit for… Care for a candy, Minerva?"

"…Well, alright, thank you." Professor McGonagall accepted it reluctantly, noting it wasn't one of the cockroach clusters she'd feared.

"But I still hope you'll set some rules to ban these harmful—"

"Minerva," Dumbledore interrupted gently. "Have you ever seen young lions?"

Professor McGonagall paused. "Of course."

Dumbledore smiled. "Then you'll know that young animals always learn survival skills through play—whether it's hunting, evading, or socializing."

"Our children are no different."

"If they don't learn to use their wands through play, life will teach them another way."

"I only regret one thing now…"

"That I didn't think of this game sooner!"

McGonagall said no more. She turned briskly and headed off to check with Madam Pomfrey to make sure the infirmary was well-stocked with supplies.

The white-bearded headmaster squinted slightly and casted a spell to watch the scene in the vegetable patch from afar.

He saw Harry skillfully fend off several large cockroaches and rescue a frightened first-year girl.

He saw Hufflepuff's Theo jump onto the back of a mantis, joining forces with Ravenclaw's Michael to bring it down.

He saw Slytherin's Zabini and Gryffindor's Ron fighting off an onslaught of spiders together.

He saw Pansy screaming as she clung tightly to Hermione's hand. Hermione, shouting, fended off a dung beetle and dragged Pansy toward a pumpkin.

He also saw Ravenclaws displaying courage, Hufflepuffs showing wisdom, Slytherins demonstrating friendship, and Gryffindors embodying resilience.

As they faced down the terrifying insects together, the usual conflicts between students seemed to melt away. They helped one another, and some even willingly "sacrificed" themselves to protect others.

"How wonderful…" Dumbledore murmured and wiped a tear from the corner of his eye.

Snape, who was standing nearby with a scowl, kept a mental list of every Slytherin student who wasn't performing well. Even in a game, he couldn't bear to see his students looking incompetent.

Professor Flitwick, on the other hand, mostly watched Wade.

"Yes, yes, very good use of that spell... Ah, slightly off with the timing, but fortunately, the opponent didn't notice... Careful, careful, someone's hiding under that beetle's belly, ready to ambush… Excellent! He blocked it!"

Flitwick jumped up and down, clapping with excitement, much to Snape's irritation.

The one who failed the ambush was none other than Slytherin's Crabbe. He was brave enough to hide under a beetle's belly, but his spell was as weak as a few drops of water.

Lockhart, meanwhile, felt inspired.

"If I could win in a game like this, I'd be the center of attention, and every student would admire me…"

After watching a bit longer, he changed his mind.

"No, no… still too risky… it might damage my image…"

"Maybe starting a dueling club would be a better idea—something popular and safe…"

Muttering to himself, Lockhart hurried back to his office to draft the perfect plan.
