Harry Potter: Becoming a Study God

Chapter 139: Chapter 139: Battle Royale Game

Wade spread out the map and began searching carefully.

At this hour, most students were in the Great Hall for dinner, so only a few people were in their dormitories.

He found the Gryffindor common room and carefully scanned the handful of black dots there.

Alicia Spinnet… Geoffrey Hooper… Cormac McLaggen… Dean Thomas… Peter Pettigrew…

There he is.

Wade focused on that tiny black dot.

Pettigrew's dot remained still, perhaps indicating he was asleep. Nearby, Dean Thomas's dot moved around before leaving the dormitory altogether.

Then, Pettigrew's dot started moving. It seemed to have a clear destination, then came to a stop again.

Wade guessed that perhaps he was sneaking a snack, since Ron likely didn't give a pet rat much food. Or maybe he was reading a newspaper, hoping to find news that the Death Eaters might rise again.

Leaving the map open on the table, Wade turned to examine the shelves along the wall.

What used to be an empty wooden shelf was now filled with potions, neatly arranged in glass bottles of various sizes, each labeled with a rectangular tag.

The potions came in many colors, some emitting a faint mist, others glowing with an ominous dark light.

Wade's eyes scanned the labels one by one.

Polyjuice Potion, Shrinking Solution, Boil-Cure Potion, Swelling Solution, Draught of Living Death, Essence of Dittany, Blood-Replenishing Potion, Confusion Concoction, Aging Potion…

In addition, there were jars of monkshood, hellebore, cowbane, powdered horn of a Graphorn, Jobberknoll feathers, lead powder, arsenic ores…

The toxic substances were mostly raw materials.

After all, the textbooks wouldn't teach students how to brew poisons. Even when ingredients like monkshood or mandrake were used, it was for their medicinal properties.

But most poisons didn't require much preparation; just a small amount of powder could be lethal.

Wade reviewed the collection and pondered for a moment.

No Veritaserum.

It wasn't that he didn't want it; rather, it was classified as a controlled substance, and there was no legal way to obtain it. Wade couldn't ask his dad to go into Knockturn Alley to buy illegal potions for him either.

In the library, it was likely that only in the Restricted Section could one find the formula for Veritaserum.

...

"Moste Potente Potions?"

Madam Pince carefully examined the note, with Lockhart's flamboyant signature scrawled on it, and asked, "Mr. Grey, this is a very dangerous book."

"Yes, I understand," Wade replied. "I'll study only the beneficial parts with caution."

"Very well," Madam Pince muttered, "Professor Lockhart is far too lenient, approving whatever the students ask for…"

She strode into the Restricted Section, and returned shortly with a thick, moldy-looking book and handed it to Wade.

Wade took the book but didn't leave right away. Instead, he asked, "Has Professor Lockhart approved any other restricted books for students?"

"A young Slytherin borrowed Magick Moste Evile!" Madam Pince complained. "He truly has no sense of discretion!"

"That student… would it happen to be Draco Malfoy?" Wade guessed.

The fleeting expression on Madam Pince's face confirmed his guess.

But she still sternly replied, "Don't pry, Mr. Grey. I won't divulge student information."

...

"Lately, stay clear of Slytherin, especially Draco Malfoy," Wade warned the group during a Umbrella Room meeting, giving Michael a pointed look.

"What's going on?" Harry asked.

"He checked out Magick Moste Evile from the library," Wade explained. "I suspect he's interested in learning some dangerous dark spells and may want to use them on someone."

"Speaking of…" Hermione glanced at Harry and Neville. "Malfoy hasn't been causing you any trouble lately, has he?"

"No," Harry replied, puzzled. "He joined the Slytherin Quidditch team, so I thought he'd be showing off for a while!"

Ryan added, "Malfoy's been having a rough time lately. I once saw him near the dungeons arguing with some Slytherins, and he almost got shoved by Crabbe."

Since the Slytherin and Hufflepuff common rooms were close, they frequently encountered Slytherin students.

"It's so strange," Harry said, confused. "Hasn't Crabbe always been Malfoy's lackey?"

Padma hinted, "Maybe he doesn't want to be a lackey anymore?"

Michael raised an eyebrow smugly and was about to say something, but Wade shook his head at him.

"Forget about Slytherin," Wade said as he tapped his wand against his palm and asked the group, "Has everyone mastered the Stunning Spell?"

"Of course," everyone nodded enthusiastically.

Hermione asked excitedly, "Are we learning a new spell?"

Wade shook his head. "In real combat, you don't need a lot of spells; you just need to be most familiar with the ones you know. Ideally, you should be able to cast them without thinking, without incantations, and even without a wand!"

"Nonverbal and wandless magic?" Theo muttered, "That's really difficult..."

"Which is why that's our future goal," Wade replied.

"For now, we need to focus on something simpler: drawing our wands in the shortest time possible, casting spells while dodging, and ensuring our aim is accurate."

"How will we train for that?" Michael asked eagerly, "Will it be practical dueling like before?"

Wade shook his head. "What we did before wasn't real practice; it was just standing around throwing spells."

"To truly master spellcasting, we're going to play a little game."

He smiled in a way that seemed a bit mischievous.

"What game?" Neville asked nervously as he swallowed hard.

Wade grinned.

"Battle Royale!"

...

"Hey, Wade! You're here!"

The Weasley twins patted the fence beside them and waved a greeting.

Hagrid was nearby trimming the towering shrubs. Seeing them, he waved happily as well.

Beside Hagrid was the pumpkin patch, where some of the pumpkins had grown to over six feet tall.

"Wow, they're huge!" Neville exclaimed in amazement.

Harry, who hadn't visited Hagrid in a while, was surprised by the big changes in the garden and asked, "Hagrid, how did you get them to grow so tall?"

"Is it an Engorgement Charm?" Hermione asked Wade as she turned her head. "Are we training here?"

"Yes, this environment is great. Hiding behind the pumpkins to launch surprise attacks makes it harder to defend, doesn't it?" Fred leaned on a smaller pumpkin and laughed.

"The ideal place would actually be the Forbidden Forest, but Hagrid won't let us in there—not even to the outer edges!" George said with a sigh.

For Wade, the best place would have been the Room of Requirement, which could simulate any environment.

But with Peter Pettigrew still at Hogwarts, he didn't want to reveal that secret to Harry and the others.
