Chapter 33: Chapter 33

First Confrontation

"Sorry, but that's not necessary," Samantha said.

Samantha and Sarah continued walking to their porch, carrying Samantha's backpack.

"Hey, it's no big deal, let me help you," Maxwell insisted, stepping toward them.

"No, thank you," Samantha replied.

"Sorry, but please don't bother my sister right now. She's not fully recovered yet," Sarah added.

"Oh, my bad. I heard from my mom that you were in the hospital, and I'm really sorry I couldn't visit," Maxwell said.

"It's fine," Samantha replied curtly.

"Ding," an email notification came through on Samantha's phone. She immediately took it out of her bag and looked at the screen. The subject line read, "DNA test result." A wide smile appeared on her face. She opened the email and the attached file without reading the body. As soon as the file opened, Samantha scrolled down to see the results. It read, "Probability: 99.99% that Maxwell is the father of the baby Samantha is carrying."

["Is it time, Sir ?"]

"Yes. Do it right now," Samantha replied.

["Understood. I will transfer your sister's memory, along with the message she sent to the man in front of you, to you. I will also alter the man's entire memory of that night."]

"Good, thanks, Hades," Samantha thought in her head.

Suddenly, the color drained from Maxwell's face. He looked at Samantha as if he had seen a ghost and took a step back.

"Y-you're the one from that night..."

"Yeah, remember now?" Samantha said, cutting off his stuttering.

Samantha showed him her phone screen. The messaging app was open, displaying their past chat. The message from him read, "What do you mean you're pregnant? Go get a test to see if it's my kid or not, but frankly, I can't take responsibility. I live in another city and was just here for fun. I have a family back home. I can't be responsible because I thought what we did was just a one-night fling. No hard feelings, and don't contact me again."

"Sorry, but I don't understand what you're showing me. Excuse me," Maxwell said, turning around and quickly walking away.

"Ugh... pathetic," Samantha mumbled.

Suddenly, a memory flashed in Samantha's mind. It was Melissa's memory of sitting at a bar, feeling emotional, drunk and Maxwell approaching her. They talked for a bit, and after a few drinks, they left the bar for a hotel nearby. The memory continued with her kissing Maxwell and him undressing her, followed by his hands exploring her body, and then intimate images of them together in various positions. popped up with the feelings

The next morning, Melissa, who had woken up first, was filled with regret and left. But before she went, she managed to open Maxwell's phone while he was still sleeping and take his number. Two weeks later, Melissa felt like something was wrong with her. She went to the doctor, and found out she was pregnant. She messaged Maxwell, and his response was the exact one Samantha had just shown him.

"Ughhhhhhhh!"

Samantha immediately crouched down on the edge of the porch and threw up everything in her stomach. When she remembered what had happened that night at the hotel again, "Ughhhhhh!" she vomited a second time. Sarah, seeing this, panicked and rushed to Samantha's side, crouching down next to her.

"What's wrong, Sis?" Sarah asked, rubbing Samantha's back.

"It's... it's disgusting... that bastard," Samantha said, turning to look at Sarah. "I... I'm okay... ughhhhhh!" Samantha vomited a third time.

"Let's get you inside, Sis," Sarah said, helping Samantha stand.

Sarah opened the front door and helped Samantha inside. After Samantha sat down on the sofa, Sarah went straight to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. She came back and handed it to Samantha. While Samantha was drinking, Sarah accidentally saw Samantha's smartphone lying next to her and picked it up. Sarah's eyes widened when she saw the message exchange between Samantha and Maxwell.

"Wait, you're pregnant with his baby?" Sarah asked hysterically.

Samantha turned and was shocked to see Sarah holding her phone, showing her the screen with a serious and slightly angry expression.

"Um... yeah, it's a long story. (Great, she's seen it now, so I have no choice but to tell her)," Samantha replied.

Samantha finally told Sarah everything from Melissa's memories, which were now hers, and showed her the DNA results to back it up. When she finished, Samantha could see Sarah's face turn red and her fists clench until her knuckles were white. Suddenly, Sarah stood up and walked to the garage. She came back carrying her baseball bat and headed for the door.

"Hey, Sarah, where are you going?" Samantha asked, immediately standing up to follow her.

"Across the street. I'm going to settle the score," Sarah said angrily.

"Wait... wait... don't," Samantha said, chasing after her.

But because she was weak and her arm was still in a sling, "thud," Samantha stumbled and fell. Sarah immediately turned back, rushed to Samantha's side and crouched down to help her stand.

"Please don't, Sarah," Samantha pleaded.

"Do you have feelings for him? He's a terrible person to say something like that to the woman he got pregnant," Sarah said, full of emotion.

"Of course I don't have any feelings for him. It was all my fault, I was careless," Samantha said, trying to mimic Melissa's thoughts.

"But he won't take responsibility and he lied to you!" Sarah argued.

"I have a much better plan to get back at him. Just calm down for now," Samantha said, trying to coax Sarah.

"Are you sure?" Sarah asked.

"Yes, I am. Trust me," Samantha replied.

"Ding... dong," the doorbell suddenly rang before Sarah could help Samantha stand up. They both turned to look at the door. Sarah stood up, still holding her baseball bat, then lifted it slightly and opened the door. "Whoa!" a woman's scream could be heard from outside when she saw Sarah with the bat.

"Carmen?" Sarah asked, lowering her bat.

"What are you doing with that, Sarah? (She peeked inside) Oh, what's going on? Why is Samantha on the floor?" Carmen asked.

Carmen immediately came in with Sarah, who had already closed the door, and helped Samantha stand up.

"Wait, Carmen? How do you know my house?" Samantha asked.

"I've been here three times already, Sam. Sarah asked me to come with her when she came home because she didn't want to be alone here. Your neighbor's a jerk, isn't he?" Carmen asked.

"Oh, is that true, Sarah?" Samantha asked, turning to look at Sarah.

"Yeah, sorry, Sis. I didn't ask first," Sarah replied, still holding the bat.

"It's fine," Samantha said, smiling.

"Come on, sit down. What's really going on? Why are you holding that thing, Sarah?" Carmen asked, helping Samantha sit back on the sofa.

"Can I tell her, Sis?" Sarah asked.

"Ugh... fine, just tell her," Samantha replied.

Once they were seated, Sarah immediately told Carmen everything. Carmen's expression changed every second, turning from anger to furious. While Sarah was talking, Samantha took a screenshot of the messages between Melissa (whose memories were now hers) and Maxwell. She then emailed the screenshot, along with the DNA test results, to Jeff.
