Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Coffee Shop Meeting (Continued) and Side Quest gone wrong

Melissa kept watching Samantha, who now seemed a little flustered. "Hufff," she sighed, then picked up her cup and drank her coffee. Samantha could see that even with her smudged makeup, Melissa's face looked much calmer and more relieved than when she first arrived. After a moment of silence,

"There's something else I need to talk about, sis," Melissa said, setting down her cup.

"What else?" Samantha asked, curious.

"It's about Derek. He's on the verge of getting expelled from university because his grades are terrible. Dad spoils him too much. He can be out for a whole month, partying with his friends, and he blows through his credit card limit in just one day. I've tried to stop him and told Dad, but they just see me as a barking dog," Melissa said.

"I see. So, what does that have to do with me?" Samantha asked, confused.

"Nothing, sis, I'm just venting because I can talk to you," Melissa replied.

"Oh, okay," Samantha said simply.

"One more thing, sis," Melissa added.

"Go on," Samantha replied curtly.

Melissa was silent for a moment, her fingers fidgeting with her coffee cup. Samantha patiently waited. Then Melissa started to speak but closed her mouth again. After a moment, she opened it once more.

"I'm pregnant, sis," Melissa said.

This time, it was Samantha who paused, trying to process what she'd just heard, as far as she knew, Melissa didn't have a boyfriend.

"Oh... congratulations! Are you dating someone?" Samantha asked.

Melissa shook her head. Samantha picked up her coffee cup and drank, observing Melissa, who was looking down. After that, she started trying to figure out how to comfort Melissa, who seemed confused and sad.

"Don't worry, single mothers can definitely succeed. Many have proven it," Samantha said.

"Thanks, sis... but that's not what I wanted to talk about," Melissa replied.

"Then what is it?" Samantha asked.

"A month ago, when I was mad at Samuel because he was hospitalized after his match, I went to a bar and... got drunk, then went home with someone I didn't know, and of course, you know what happened... I made a bad decision that night because I was drunk," Melissa replied.

"Okay. (Oh, that's when she called while I was in the hospital from getting beat up... yeah, she was mad then, I remember.) And then?" Samantha asked, knowing there had to be more to the story.

"I haven't told Dad yet... I'm afraid this action of mine will tarnish the family name and... I can't afford to be disowned now because I need money to have this baby and raise it," Melissa said.

"Ah, this is the core of our whole conversation now, the thing that's making her anxious since yesterday, and it's definitely not that letter from Mom to Samuel. But let me listen first; I already know where this is going," Samantha muttered to herself, though her face remained calm and unbothered.

"I'm planning to tell Dad, sis, because in two months, my stomach will definitely show. But... I want to ask for your help. If Dad gets really angry and disowns me from the inheritance, will you help me? At least until the baby is born," Melissa said.

"Help with what?" Samantha asked, though she already suspected the answer.

"Finances, sis. I saw you at the bank, you easily paid a huge amount of money to Dad... then last night Derek also told me that you paid off Sarah's dad's mortgage (glancing at the table and seeing Samantha's BMW car key). That BMW car outside... is it yours?" Melissa asked.

"Right, so she's getting to the point. She needs a safety net if Dad disowns her like he did to me. No wonder she asked about my job when we met at the bank; this is what she meant," Samantha muttered to herself with a smile. "You didn't contact the baby-daddy and tell him you're pregnant?" Samantha asked.

"Um...I already told him, sis," Melissa replied, looking down.

"And what did he say?" Samantha asked, curious.

"Um... he said he couldn't take responsibility because he also has a family, and he thought it was just a one-night thing," Melissa replied, looking down.

"A very productive one-night thing... good, good," Samantha muttered.

"Please don't tease me, sis. You can help me, right?" Melissa asked, trembling.

"Ugh, here's the problem. On one hand, I care about her because she's my sister, but on the other hand, I don't feel responsible for her actions," Samantha muttered to herself.

Samantha fell silent, her finger tapping the table. Then she looked over at her car parked by the road, and after that, she turned back to Melissa.

"I'll think about it," Samantha said curtly.

"Thanks, sis," Melissa said, a glimmer of hope in her face.

After that, they chatted about many things. Melissa said she intended to go home and not go to the office after this, while Samantha just nodded along. After they finished talking, they both walked out of the cafe together after leaving money on the table. Melissa immediately got into her car and drove off, leaving Samantha standing by the road next to her car.

[Do you want to help her, sir?]

"I don't know, I'm confused," Samantha replied.

[I can help her if you want.]

"How?" Samantha asked, curious.

[By transferring the baby from her womb to the womb of the man's wife who got her pregnant.]

"Huh... can you really do that?" Samantha asked, surprised.

[Yes, but we need to know who the man is and where he lives. At least we must know his' wife's name.]

"Hmm... I guarantee Melissa probably doesn't know anything," Samantha replied.

[Alright.]

"Whoosh!" Suddenly, a holographic screen appeared in front of Samantha's face. "Huh," Samantha immediately read the contents of the screen.

==================================================

"Huh, what is this?" Samantha asked in her head.

[A side quest, sir. Just do it, it's just walking, right?]

"Hmm, okay, it seemed easy enough."

Samantha started the quest. She walked right along the sidewalk. When she reached the end, she turned left and kept walking until she reached an intersection, then turned right. After walking along the sidewalk, she stopped at the alley, which was a gap between a restaurant building and a pharmacy. It seemed like the upper floors of the restaurant and pharmacy were apartments rented out by the building owner.

"Go in here?" Samantha asked in her head.

[That's right, sir, let's go in, otherwise, you'll miss the time limit.]

"Okay, okay," Samantha replied.

She went into the alley and stopped right next to a dumpster leaning against the restaurant wall. She could hear the sounds of people fighting, seemingly a married couple, right above the restaurant building.

[Close your eyes, sir, and be still.]

Samantha obeyed. She closed her eyes and stayed still, listening to the sounds of the loud argument upstairs. Suddenly, "Watch out!" a scream came from above. "Huh?" Samantha thought to herself, but before she could move, "CRASH!" an iron safe landed on her head, and everything suddenly went dark. A moment later, "Whoosh," "Waaaaah!" Samantha sat up again. She looked up to see a muscular, bald man standing in front of her. Behind him, a woman with curly hair wearing a house dress seemed to be the one who had screamed.

"Hey, are you okay?" the man asked.

"Huh... what happened to me?" Samantha asked, confused.

"She's fine, luckily," the man said to his wife.

"B-but her head is bleeding," his wife replied.

The husband immediately checked Samantha's head, which was still dazed and semi-conscious. Then he turned back to his wife.

"No injuries, she's fine. Next time, don't just throw safes around when we're fighting," the husband said.

"T-then where did the blood come from?" his wife asked, still scared.

"I don't know. The important thing is she's okay," the husband replied.

"I-I'm so sorry, babe," the wife replied.

"Don't do this again," the husband replied.

Samantha, still confused, tried to remember what had happened to her. Suddenly,
