Chapter 55: Chapter 55: A Truly Open Conspiracy(100 P.S Chapter)
"So, what is it that you really want?"
Sure, these swimsuit-clad monster girls and nymphs were eye-catching. They had flair. They had charm.
But Poseidon wasn't the kind to lose her head over a bit of temptation. She kept her wits about her, alert and guarded.
Of course, staying alert didn't mean she had to stop enjoying herself.
If the bullets came wrapped in sugar, why not savor the sweetness first?
"Why, to discuss matters concerning the great ocean, of course."
Acheron took a sip of honey wine, the warmth of the spring mist softening the atmosphere between them, breaking down barriers as naturally as breathing.
After all, hadn't the Roman baths been the true seat of Roman power? Even their citizen assemblies and political debates were held in bathhouses. There was something about being stripped bare, about meeting face to face without pretense, that dissolved defenses.
Naturally, it also gave rise to other sorts of feelings. Wasn't that how the Senate ended up becoming the Assistance House in the end?
"The ocean?" Poseidon feigned ignorance, a broad, carefree grin on her face.
"Isn't the sea calm and peaceful right now? What's there to discuss?"
"Lady Sea King, let's not dance around it. No need for smoke and mirrors."
"You need the support of the ocean's river gods if you want to truly rule as Sea King. Otherwise, your title is little more than an empty shell."
Acheron laid it out, plain as day, pointing directly at Poseidon's greatest current weakness.
The Oceanus river god lineage practically held sway over every river god role across the world.
Even with a new Sea King crowned, making those thousands of river gods fall in line wasn't something that could be done with a simple decree.
After all, Poseidon wasn't their father. Unlike Oceanus, she couldn't command them with a single word.
Poseidon's roaming hands stilled. Her expression turned serious at last.
This was about the authority of the Sea King. Time to roll up her sleeves and hit back hard.
Still, given the pillowy softness beneath her head, she decided to hear Acheron out first.
"You're not wrong. But don't get the wrong idea."
"The only one I care about is your father. The rest of you? You're just weeds gathered at the feet of a giant."
Her words dripped with scorn. And why not? It was the truth.
Among Oceanus' countless children, the only one who'd truly earned the title of warrior was Styx, the oath-bound goddess of the Underworld River, goddess of hatred, and a staunch ally of Zeus during the Titanomachy.
Styx might have looked gentle on the surface, but she could fight circles around towering Acheron any day.
"Of course. I understand that perfectly. That's why I mean no threat to you, Lady Sea King."
Acheron didn't flinch. She was a new woman now.
Her eyes were set firmly on one prize, the seat of Sea Queen.
"I'm simply offering you my goodwill. I can help you, after all."
"And what is it you want in return?"
Since the cards were on the table, Poseidon saw no reason to hold back.
What did Acheron want badly enough to offer her help?
Wasn't she supposed to be the type who'd rebel first, take a beating, and then fall in line?
She didn't seem like the smart, shrewd sort at all…
"It's simple. I want to be Sea Queen."
"Pfft!"
Poseidon nearly spat out her honey wine, eyes wide in disbelief.
She knew the rumors. Acheron was just like her, both gods who reveled in wielding the power of fertility to, well, let's say dominate others.
And now she wanted to be Sea Queen?
Technically speaking, there was nothing stopping her… but still, the idea was ridiculous.
"You're serious? You and I? We're hardly a good match."
"And what's so mismatched about us?"
Acheron shifted, glimmering jewelry swaying and catching the light in the steamy bath.
"In terms of status, I'm a river goddess of the Oceanus line, one of Father's eldest and most respected daughters. My sisters hold me in high esteem."
"If I become Sea Queen, all those troubles weighing on you would vanish."
"And as for appearance…"
She shook the water from her body, and in the veil of mist, she began to transform.
A long tail, part serpent, part fish, broke the surface of the water. Two extra arms unfolded from her shoulders. Silver jewelry traced the curves of her body, wrapping around her waist, hugging each contour.
Finally, at the peaks of her form, two dazzling jewels gleamed where the metal pierced through.
It wasn't Greek. Not at all. There was an exotic, almost chaotic allure to it, like a dash of curry in a sea of olives.
But this was exactly what Eros had envisioned, a look designed to thrill Poseidon, to give her something she'd never seen before.
After all, plain monster girls? Poseidon had seen them, played with them.
But this exotic charm? That was new. That was tempting.
Poseidon's eyes lit up despite herself. What's that on her chest? Piercings? This girl plays rough, huh?
"In terms of looks… I don't think I'm lacking, do you?"
Acheron softened her voice, adopting a shy, delicate manner she never would've shown before, masking her true nature.
"And in terms of personality, surely you can see now that the rumors were just me covering for myself, painting a false image?"
"When you look at all these factors… don't you agree I'm the best candidate for Sea Queen?"
This was Eros' true strategy, a bold, open conspiracy. A plan that stood tall and proud in the light of day.
Hidden among the mist and divine artifacts, Eros and Hera watched eagerly, waiting for Poseidon's answer.
This was the critical moment. The bait had been set. Would Poseidon bite?
Eros didn't seriously expect that simply dressing Acheron up in something sexy would short circuit Poseidon's brain.
If Poseidon were that easy to manipulate, she wouldn't be Sea King. She'd just be comic relief.
No, this was about laying down undeniable logic.
Make it so that every condition pointed to Acheron as the best possible choice. Then, and only then, would beauty smooth over the final reservations.
Right now, in terms of status and practical benefit, Acheron was the most suitable Sea Queen candidate there was.
Any lingering dislike or same gender rivalry had already been dulled, thanks to Eros' infamous Personality Correction Fist.
Given all that, Eros couldn't imagine any reason Poseidon would say no.
"If you're still unsure, I can swear it on the River Styx, if that would put you at ease."
Acheron raised her hand solemnly.
"And if you agree, I'll need you to do the same, to swear it on the Styx as well."
