Chapter 297: Chapter 297 Bloodbath
Compared to Law, who ran into two Nen Users with some actual skill, Kuro was much more relaxed. He strolled right into the building without running into a single Nen User. Instead, his feral beast form drew a whole squad of prison guards.
Regular bullets posed zero threat to Kuro. Any guard that came to take him down was swiftly slaughtered by a single swing of his claws.
Wherever he passed, he left behind a trail of mutilated corpses.
With Law's authorization in hand, there was no way Kuro would pass up this opportunity. He didn't care who he ran into, and he killed everyone on sight!
In less than half an hour, the number of black pages in Law's book had nearly reached the two-hundred mark thanks to him.
Of course, slaughter aside, Kuro still carried out Law's orders. While he killed, he also searched for Sanbica, though he wasn't exactly putting in his full effort.
In that half hour, Sanbica hadn't been found, but the body count had surged.
By sheer accident, Kuro eventually wandered into the prison block where the inmates were being held.
"Hmm..."
Looking at the clusters of prisoners locked up behind bars, Kuro stuck out his tongue and licked his lips, and a cold glint flashed in his silver eyes.
In his eyes, these bloodthirsty criminals were like a bunch of little turkeys waiting for the axe.
…
Sanbica was being held in an abandoned section of the prison, the same small space sealed off by transparent glass.
She sat curled in a corner, hugging her knees. The dark green zone of death that surrounded her had now shrunk to barely two meters in diameter.
Dove raised his phone to his ear and asked, "What happened?"
"Bear and Shark are dead." A voice reporting the situation came from the other end of the phone.
Dove's eyebrows were furrowed, and he asked in a deep voice: "Identity? Number?"
"Unknown target. Just one person, and a black panther, possibly a magical beast."
There was no need to specify whether the enemy was a Nen User. After all, anyone capable of taking down Bear and Shark clearly wasn't some average Joe.
Dove cast a glance toward Sanbica behind the glass and said, "Postpone the voyage. Eliminate the intruder first. Keep me updated at all times."
"Yes!"
As Dove put down his phone, his face gradually turned cold. He lowered his head slightly, and whispered an unknown language in a strange tone, which was a dirge for the fallen Bear and Shark.
A flicker of guilt touched his heart. If he hadn't insisted on obtaining Sanbica's ability, they would've left two hours ago. Things wouldn't have dragged on this long, and Bear and Shark might still be alive.
But that guilt vanished as quickly as it came.
Sacrifices were inevitable for a goal like theirs. In order to overthrow a country, more than a hundred artificial soldiers are far from enough. Various deadly biochemical weapons are also needed!
The arrival of Sanbica is truly an unexpected surprise, as it can greatly make up for the weakness in biochemical weapons. This 'unexpected surprise' has now become an extremely important piece in the plan.
In order to wait for the moment to implant the Zombie Mushroom into Sanbica's body, any sacrifice is worth it!
Although the identity of the intruder was unclear, Dove knew that this intruder was definitely related to the Hunter Association.
'That day, even though Shark had smashed the phone this girl had stolen from one of our members, it looked like the message still went through. Otherwise, there was no way the enemy would've moved so fast.'
"Hmph. Sending an official request by the book while secretly sneaking someone in behind the International Security Organization's back... How is that any different from what the old Seirin Group used to do? Ignoring the rules just to complete the mission…"
"You were the one who disbanded Seirin Group. Now you're the one continuing their methods."
"Isaac Netero… you damn hypocrite."
Dove muttered coldly under his breath, and then he stared closely at Sanbica behind the glass again.
'Faster. Just a little faster.'
'All our companions who had crawled out from that hell… they were done waiting.'
'If it meant the fall of a nation… if it meant watching millions die screaming, then rivers of blood and mountains of corpses were a small price to pay.'
…
Realizing that the intruder was no ordinary threat, the remnants of the Seirin Group didn't dare launch a reckless assault on Law.
Instead, they mobilized the remaining prison guards and ordered all of them to focus on eliminating him.
As for the black panther, once the remnants saw through surveillance footage that it was butchering the inmates in the prison blocks, they chose to ignore it and shifted all their attention to Law.
All of a sudden, this prison, which hid all kinds of secrets, began to reek with an increasingly thick stench of blood.
The real massacre had begun.
Kuro continued his one-sided slaughter of the defenseless prisoners, while Law, concerned for Sanbica's safety, showed no mercy to the guards trying to take him down. Anyone who came at him died… one by one, two by two, it didn't matter!
As for what consequences this might bring, what ripple effects it might cause, or whether it would end up pitting him against an entire nation… none of that was Law's concern.
Under the orders from the Seirin Group's remnants, the prison guards didn't attack all at once. Instead, they came in waves, with a makeshift version of a relay battle.
However, the purpose of the Seirin Group's remnants was to use the lives of the guards to piece together information on Law's abilities.
Their plan was indeed effective and they managed to test out a portion of Law's Nen Ability, which was that he could stop bullets coming at him from all directions and reflect them right back.
Meanwhile, in the cell blocks, hundreds of prisoners were being slaughtered by Kuro at a terrifyingly efficient pace.
While all of them deserved to be hauled straight to the gallows, Kuro's motive had nothing to do with justice or cleansing evil.
Leaving behind a sea of corpses, Kuro left the prison block with satisfaction. Then, he found that no prison guards came to bother him anymore.
'I can't slack off too much.'
Kuro thought that he had already taken advantage to rack up a few hundred kills, so he should be satisfied. If he got greedy and overdid it, it might backfire.
With that in mind, he transformed into black smoke and began to seriously carry out Law's command.
In smoke form, his speed was astonishing. He could also slip through any crack or opening, drastically improving his search efficiency.
Twelve years ago, the number of inmates in Clort Prison had exceeded seventy thousand.
Now, that number had dropped to less than one thousand.
From seventy thousand to one thousand, that wasn't the result of natural death or aging. These were lives lost in experiments or devoured by magical beasts.
Given how expensive it was to transport prisoners to Clort Prison, the number of new prisoners had sharply declined over the years… hence the current low inmate population.
While the numbers of prisoner had plummeted, the number of guards hadn't changed much. Most of them were retired battlefield veterans, dumped here to live out their days in a kind of forced retirement.
Now, the intruder's arrival had given them a reason to fight, and also a reason to die in battle.
While Law was tied up fighting the guards sent after him in waves, Kuro found Sanbica.
After the number of prisoners dropped sharply, many of the prison blocks had been abandoned. Sanbica was being held in one of those abandoned zones, while Kuro was currently in a still-active area.
The two areas were part of the same large sector. Kuro, who is moving as smoke, initially planned to just skim through the abandoned blocks. But to his surprise, that's exactly where he found Sanbica.
Kuro changed from its smoke state to his leopard form and landed steadily in the hallway, looking at the Dove, who is in a white coat.
"So it's a Nen Beast."
Dove looked at Kuro in leopard form and murmured under his breath.
It's not a magical beast, but a Nen Beast.
Upon seeing Kuro, Dove immediately began preparing for combat, and his body was covered in a powerful surge of Aura.
However, just as he released his Aura, he saw the panther-like Nen Beast turned tail and run away, without a moment's hesitation.
"…"
Looking at the Nen Beast that disappeared in a flash, Dove stood frozen in confusion.
