Chapter 352: Book 13: Part 5 – The Descent of the Overgod of Darkness
As Yoruna's body disappeared, Ace grabbed the Water-type Sovereign Spark and casually stored it away in his storage device before leading Killian and the others, who had recovered enough of their strength to move on their own, into Chaotic Space, where his master was waiting for them.
The first thing Ace noticed was Phueus glaring at him; his eyes tainted crimson with madness as he looked at the man who killed his wife.
Aside from Phueus, the other Sovereigns were staring at Ace incredulously. They could all tell from the fluctuations he was emitting that his current power was a fusion of his and his wife and that by himself, he still wasn't a match for even the weakest of Lesser Sovereigns, but even so, that did nothing to take away from the looks of shock and dumfounded; after all, as it stood, he was merely a Demi-God… how much more powerful would he become after he became a Full God, High God, or worse yet, a High God Paragon.
Still, none of that was of any concern to Ace; he simply wanted to use his actions to tell these lofty Sovereigns that even without the support of his master, they should think twice about provoking him, and by the looks of things, his message was received loud and clear.
He looked at his master and said he was ready to go, but Aiden told him that there was no rush. The fun was only just beginning.
It was as he finished speaking a terrifying pressure descended on all those present, including Ace and his group.
The pressure seemed to want to force Ace and his group to kneel, especially Ace, but Ace, who was still fused with his wife, once again summoned his Divine Ability, allowing himself to resist, albeit only barely.
Seeing that, Aiden snorted indifferently, allowing his own pressure to negate that of the newcomers.
With the pressure gone, Ace and his group were able to look up at the swirling mass of darkness hovering above Phueus' head.
Most of those present had never interacted with another Overgod aside from Aiden. Still, the moment their eyes fell on the darkness, they immediately understood that it had to be the spirit of the Overgod of Darkness. Just looking at it made them feel like they were staring at the true and complete embodiment of darkness.
Most couldn't look at it for more than a second for fear that their spirits would be devoured. Still, Aiden wasn't like most.
He took another casual swig of his drink before telling the Overgod of Darkness to hurry up and get to the point, or he was leaving.
The swirling mass of darkness didn't have a face as such, so it wasn't possible to read its emotions like one would an ordinary person. Still, Ace could sense that the Darkness Overgod seemed conflicted. It was clear that it didn't like him, but that was to be expected, as Aiden had already told him that almost all of the Overgods saw his existence as something of a parasite. He could also sense the overwhelming arrogance it held in its heart, as though all other creatures were beneath it. Still, above that, it seemed exceedingly cautious around his master. Despite being an Overgod, it somehow seemed that it genuinely feared Aiden.
The Overgod of Darkness then said that the Overgods of the Four Edicts had expressly stated that Ace wasn't allowed to take part in their Overgod trial and that even if Ace did manage to collect all three Overgod Talismans, they would never descend to grant the wish of a parasite.
Hearing that, the minds of all the other Sovereigns churned, trying to understand what they meant by calling Ace a parasite. Still, Ace merely snorted. He knew exactly what they meant, but he didn't care, nor did he want or need anything from them.
He opened his mouth to say exactly that, but before he could get the words out, his Master spoke first.
Aiden said he was willing to keep Ace from participating, but he had two conditions. First, aside from Amira and Ace, the rest of Ace's group was allowed to participate. And second, no Sovereigns were allowed to participate, at least not directly. If they wanted to participate, they had to get deities to participate on their behalf.
As one could imagine, the expressions of all the other Sovereigns dropped when they heard Aiden's words. As it stood, completing the Overgods Mission and acquiring an Overgod Artifact was the only way most of them could progress. If they couldn't participate directly, the chances of them succeeding were slim to none at best, especially considering the might of Killian, Leona, and the rest of their group. Aside from the Sovereigns themselves, they were all but invincible.
Having come to a very similar conclusion, the Overgod of Darkness said that it was impossible, but unlike what one would expect, Aiden didn't get angry. Instead, he just chuckled, nodded, and said that was fine too. In that case, he would just participate as well, as he'd wanted to meet those four Overgods for some time.
Hearing his words, though he didn't quite understand why, Ace could sense a deep sense of helplessness, tinged with fear coming from the Overgod of Darkness.
Ace may not have understood the reasons behind the feelings of the Darkness Overgod, but as an Overgod himself, how could Aiden not?
He knew that the Overgod missions might have been executed by the Overgods of the four Edicts, but they were enforced by the heavens; as such, although there were certain things the four Overgods could do to go their way, they couldn't go too far.
For example, although they could prevent Ace from receiving their rewards, that was ultimately because Ace's soul wasn't originally of their universe. Essentially, they were just exploiting a loophole.
Still, that may have been the case for Ace, but Aiden was very much a member of their universe.
Had another Overgod, one who had completely awakened by itself, been the one to try and accept their reward, the four Overgods would've been well within their rights to deny them. Unfortunately for them, although Aiden had become an Overgod, he wasn't one originally making it so that, should he participate and win, it would be impossible for them not to descend and grant his wish.
Even so, that wouldn't have been too big of a deal to the Overgods in and of itself, as Aiden could do everything they could do, but the problem with Aiden doing so wasn't their granting his wish, but them descending in front of Aiden.
It had to be remembered that as it stood, although they were infinitely close to condensing their true bodies and being able to truly live like ordinary creatures of the universe, they were still some way away. Should they descend in front of Aiden in their current condition, to protect his disciple, Aiden would inevitably show no mercy.
Although he definitely wouldn't be able to kill them, he would be able to hurt them. In doing so, they would be forced to spend countless years recovering.
Aiden's grin turned fiendish as he stared at the spirit of the Overgod of Darkness, not even bothering to hide his intentions.
A sigh came from the Overgod of Darkness, but ultimately, he was forced to cave. In the end, he agreed. He said no Sovereigns were allowed to participate, but whether it was Killian and his group or someone else who won in the end, they would have to summon the Overgod in the Planar Battlefield.
Aiden shrugged and agreed. Although he didn't show it, Ace could sense the reluctance in his master's emotions.
After the terms were agreed, Aiden led his disciple and their friends back to the Yulan Plane, leaving the Overgod of Darkness and Phueus with the other Sovereigns.
With Aiden gone, the Overgod of Darkness allowed his overwhelming presence to spread freely, causing all other Sovereigns to fall to their knees in fear and reverence.
Looking at the Sovereigns, the Overgod of Darkness eventually turned his focus back to Phueus and merely said not to let him down before dissipating.
Even as its presence disappeared, the Sovereigns didn't dare to stand up. Phueus looked at the Sovereigns on bended knee before him before turning to face the direction in which Ace left, his eyes still filled with hatred. He'd do anything to be able to get his hands on Ace, but he knew that, as things were at the moment, it was impossible. Still, hope was far from gone.
With that, he turned back to the other Sovereigns. He knew if he was to have any chance at success, he needed to force these Sovereigns to join him; as such, he went ahead and explained not only how he met the Overgod of Darkness, but also the truth about Ace and why he was hated by the Overgods, as well as the truth about Orloff.
