Chapter 53: Chapter 49 - Meeting Legends
After the long and exciting school trip, the regular Monday buzz returned to Orange Star High School. The school day had dragged on unusually long for Videl. Her patience—worn thin over the past few weeks—finally snapped when she read their group's latest report. The Red Ribbon Army connection was too suspicious to ignore. Every time she brought up Gohan's name, things didn't add up. She Gohan was hiding something.
At the end of the school day, Videl cornered Gohan before he could disappear again.
"Enough dodging," she said, hands on hips, her usual intensity sharp as ever. "We need to talk—now. And Erasa and Sharpner are coming too."
Gohan blinked, then gave a small, knowing smile. "Okay. I'll tell you what you want to know, but not here."
Videl narrowed her eyes. "Then where?"
"Come to my home in 439 Mountain Area or Mount Paozu as the locals call it. I'll explain everything there. Bring Erasa and Sharpner if you really want. Trunks can come too."
She folded her arms. "You better not be messing with us."
"I'm not," Gohan replied calmly. "I think... you'll understand better once you see things for yourself."
The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the 439 Mountain Area as Videl's hovercraft hummed low through the skies, flanked by Erasa and Sharpner in the passenger seats. The journey had taken nearly two hours from the city, but none of them were complaining. Videl had had enough of Gohan's vague excuses and secrecy. After their school report on the Red Ribbon Army—and a few odd clues—they were determined to confront him about his mysterious life… and possibly confirm if the legendary Goku was really his father.
"You sure this isn't some romantic mountain trap?" she teased.
"I wish," Sharpner muttered from the back. "Mountain date with a Super Strong Nerd? No thanks."
Videl rolled her eyes. "Focus. We're getting answers."
The hovercraft finally descended into a clearing near a modest home tucked between the forest and mountain cliffs. The scenery was unreal—like something out of a postcard. It was serene, quiet, yet oddly intense.
As they neared their destination, the serene wilderness suddenly turned chaotic.
Out of nowhere, a massive T-Rex lunged from the dense forest, snapping its jaws toward the hovercraft. The beast's roar shook the vehicle violently, sending a jolt of panic through the trio.
"Hang on!" Videl shouted, gripping the controls tightly.
Luckily, the capsule-made craft was reinforced with strong alloy plating. The T-Rex's bite glanced off, leaving only deep scratches—but the danger hadn't passed.
Before any of them could react further, a small blur darted across the clearing and slammed straight into the T-Rex's jaw.
"BAM!"
The dinosaur skidded across the ground, unconscious in a single hit. Standing in its place was a grinning young boy—spiky hair and fiery eyes full of energy.
Goten had recognized them from the field trip. Especially Videl.
"Hey! Gohan! Your girlfriend is here!" Goten shouted cheerfully, waving back toward the house.
Videl blinked, stunned. "W-What?!"
Her face flushed bright red while Sharpner and Erasa burst into laughter already forgetting about the dinosaur attack moments ago.
"Whoa, did you hear that?" Sharpner said between chuckles. "Gohan's got a girlfriend!"
"Looks like this trip might be more interesting than I thought," Erasa added with a wink.
As the hovercraft finally touched down and the trio stepped outside, their attention was drawn to a man approaching them from the house.
He wore a casual gi, carried himself with unassuming ease, but something about him felt larger than life.
"You must be Gohan's friends," Goku said warmly. "Welcome! I'm Goku."
The moment froze.
Sharpner's mouth dropped open.
Erasa nearly stumbled.
And Videl could only stare in awe. The Goku. The man who defeated the Red Ribbon Army. The man who was the World Martial Arts Champion before his father...
"Please, come in," Goku continued with a smile, completely unaware of their amazement. "Chichi made a lot of food."
Inside the Son home, the air was filled with warmth and the scent of freshly cooked dishes. Chichi, ever the perfect host, was setting up a feast worthy of a festival.
At the table, Gohan and Trunks were already seated, chatting and waiting patiently.
"Hey, come on! Eat first," Gohan said, gesturing to the seats.
Videl, Erasa, and Sharpner slowly walked in, still processing everything.
And so, what began as a confrontation… turned into a surprising family dinner they'd never forget.
The humble dining room of the Son household was alive with clinking plates, laughter, and the scent of freshly made rice, grilled fish, and a variety of side dishes that could rival a royal banquet. Chichi had outdone herself, feeding not just her family, but also the unexpected guests from the city.
Videl took a sip of water, still trying to digest not just the food—but everything happening around her.
Then her eyes widened.
"Wait a second…" she said, setting her cup down as a memory clicked into place. She looked at Chichi, studying her more closely. "You're... you're her!"
Chichi blinked. "Hmm?"
"The fighter called Anonymous during the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament! You fought Goku in the semi-finals!"
Sharpner and Erasa both turned toward Videl in confusion.
"What are you talking about?" Sharpner asked. "Chichi fought in a Martial Arts Tournament?"
"Not just any tournament," Videl said, eyes gleaming with admiration. "She was the first woman to make it to the semi-finals in history. I watched the old footage a hundred times when I was a kid."
"You idolized her?" Erasa asked, surprised.
Videl nodded, face glowing. "Of course I did. She proved that a woman could stand in the ring with the strongest fighters in the world and not back down. I even modeled my stance after hers when I first started training."
Chichi flushed a little, her hands waving modestly. "Oh, that was such a long time ago. I was just a teenage girl back then."
"But you were incredible!" Videl insisted. "You almost landed a hit on Goku, and your energy was so intense—"
Chichi chuckled, waving off the praise. "Honestly, I only joined that tournament to get Goku's attention. I was a little… forward."
Goku laughed sheepishly beside her. "Yeah, I didn't even remember our promise back then…"
"You promised to marry me when we were kids," Chichi said, crossing her arms with a playful smirk. "And when I reminded him, right after I lost the match, he proposed on the spot."
"Wait—what?!" Sharpner nearly choked on his food. "That's how you two got engaged?!"
"Just like that?!" Erasa echoed, wide-eyed.
"Well," Goku said, grinning and rubbing the back of his head. "She was really strong and kind, so it made sense to me."
Videl stared at the two of them—Goku, the legendary warrior, and Chichi, her childhood idol—and felt a strange warmth in her chest.
They weren't just strong. They were... real.
A quiet inspiration settled in her heart.
Maybe... I could aim even higher than I thought.
She glanced over at Gohan, who was smiling while eating, then quickly turned her eyes back to her food, her face warm with a slight blush.
The rest of the evening passed in comfort and laughter, with stories exchanged and walls slowly coming down between the guests and their legendary hosts.
