Chapter 277: Confrontation
[A/N: I realise I messed up, so we'll be going back in time a little. Once I fix the stuff that's needed to be fixed, I'll rearrange the chapters accordingly.]
On the day that Keith left Arthur's mansion after playing with Miya, a small storm brewed.
Clara woke up from her bed and turned around to see her friend sleeping like a log on the other side of the bed. With her eyes still blurry, she felt around and realized that the space next to her was empty.
It wasn't something new since her beloved usually woke up earlier than her, or slept during the day. But the sense or calm only stayed for a few seconds until she remembered the last day's events.
'…. What did he mean when he said he'd give us space and time to think?' he mused as an uncomfortable sinking feeling crept into her stomach.
With a grumpy, yet worried look on her face, she raised her hand to wake up Amelia but stopped midway when she saw a paper resting on the table.
She stared at the slightly messy handwriting and knew that it was Keith's but the presence letter did not make her feel better.
With an anxious and worried look on her face, she crawled towards the Amelia and grabbed the letter before she sat back down to read the contents.
Dear Amelia and Clara,
I know that you both are pissed at me for keeping things from you and I do understand that it makes you guys feel uncomfortable. Now that I started writing this letter, I feel like it would have been better if I talked to you two directly but I am kinda pissed too.
I made the decision to put everything on the table, only to face anger and rejection. While I do understand your perspective, I can't help but feel like it's unfair.
Well, my disappointment aside, I'd like to tell you that I'll be leaving this place to get a few things done. It's extremely important and I'm sorry that I can't give you the details. I don't know when I might be back, but it can potentially take months or even years.
There's also a chance of… well never mind that.
Anyways, I guess I'll address the important stuff. Just know that I love both of you a lot, but I'll leave the choice in your hands. We aren't officially married yet, so it'll be easier to cut ties at this point in time.
Your's Truly
Keith Zenister
Clara panicked as she read through the letter, so much that she had begun to sweat and take deep, hurried breaths. He woke up Amelia aggressively as he held in her sobs but when her friend didn't respond, she grabbed her hair and pulled aggressively.
"Aiiii aiaiaiaiai" Amelia screamed, but now she was completely awake. She felt like smacking the person who did this, but when she saw Clara in the verge of tears, she frowned.
Her gaze fell on the letter and a part of her did not want to read it. In fact, she felt like running away from the harmless paper. Yet, her hand moved towards it and took it from Clara's grasp.
She slowly read through the letter and didn't show much reaction. Instead, she frowned and tossed the letter to the side before she got off the bed and walked into the bathroom.
Clara took some time to calm down, but once she did, she felt weird. A feeling that was a mix of frustration, anger and regret.
"He should have just talked to us!" she whispered to herself, 'You told me that communication was the most important thing for a successful relationship and yet, you just leave without talking to us?'
She then suddenly stood up and rushed out of the room before knocking on Adrian's door aggressively.
A few seconds later, a groggy looking Adrian walked out and stood face to face with a glaring Clara. One look and he knew that something was wrong. He had never seen her this pissed and yet, he couldn't help but ask.
"What's wrong?"
Clara huffed and pointed towards the stairs that led them down, "Let's fight. I want to fight."
"Umm… I don't like fighting wom-"
"I'll kill you."
Adrian blinked, absolutely surprised at the words that escaped Clara's mouth, "Huh?"
"I'll be waiting downstairs." she said, giving him an ultimatum before she began to walk downstairs.
Staring at the empty wall in front of him, Adrian sighed before turning around, "I don't want to fight women though. It's against a knight's honor." he muttered, but he still grabbed his sword that was leaning against the wall beside his bed and then walked over to the sparring area.
He saw Clara standing silently, waiting for him without any weapon in hand.
"You want an unarmed spar?" he asked as he walked towards the wall with the intention of leaving his sword there, but Clara shook her head.
She pointed at the armory close by and said, "Go put on your armor. I can summon my own."
"Oh… okay…" Adrian said softly as he did as he was told. It was feeling that was very new to him, to just obey someone's orders other than his father's.
Still confused, he walked in and the servant inside helped him put on the armor before he left.
"I'm ready." he said and looked at her, half expecting her to tell him that they were doing unarmed combat.
But unfortunately for him, she didn't. Instead, she took a few steps forward and a pure white armor materialized, covering her completely.
And yet, there was no sword in her hand. He frowned, and just as he was about to ask her if he should, in fact put his sword away, he saw her rush in towards him.
"Wai-" he tried to stop her but she was already in front of him. Her armor disappeared as she punched right at his face, which he instinctively dodged.
Her thumb grazed against his cheek but due to the years of training that he had gone through, his muscle memory was way too potent. Sensing danger, he grasped the scabbard with one hand and the handle with the other before unsheathing the sword.
It drew an arc but Clara just bent backwards, her back almost touching the ground as she evaded the slash. Her right leg kicked upwards but was unfortunately out of range.
"Just what in the hell…." he muttered as he slashed down with half his original strength. Clara rolled away before glaring at him, "Holding back?"
"I mean, I have a sword." he said calmly before acknowledging her, "I didn't know you were this good. I mean, Amelia did say that you're better than her but this is pretty surprising. Though, I must ask why you made your armor disappear."
Clara continued to glare for another few seconds before her expression softened slightly, "I thought I might kill you if I had it on and I don't want to do that."
"Well, if you want me to fight at full strength, you should be doing the same." he said and Clara silently stared at him before nodding.
"If that's what you want." she said, her voice suddenly cold as the armor appeared once again.
She crouched down slightly before lifting up her head to look straight at him, "Ready?"
Adrian took a proper stance and nodded, "Yeah."
And before he knew it, his vision turned black.
Clara stood beside Adrian who was now lying on the ground with a broken nose as she stared at him silently. Then, she stomped over towards a tree and sent her fist flying straight at its trunk.
It wasn't even a blur but a loud thud was heard as multiple leaves, twigs and even a few branches fell to the ground. One of them even bounced off of her shoulder as she pulled her fist back.
Another blur and the place where she punched burst as hundreds of splinters and wooden pieces flew in multiple directions. The upper part of the tree leaned towards her but Clara just stopped it with her hand and pushed it away to the other side.
The commotion attracted a lot of onlookers as servants and knights began to rush over to see what was going on. Even Amelia rushed over and when she saw her brother out cold on the ground, she frowned and turned to look at Clara who was currently staring silently at the ground.
"Why did you…?" she began, but stopped when she saw Clara slowly lift up her head to look at her.
"It's all your fault." Clara said softly as she began to walk towards Amelia.
The words barely reached Amelia's ears, but they hit their mark accurately as her red eyes began to tear up in front of everyone, something that Amelia absolutely hated.
"I…" she began, but Clara cut her off, "Are you saying that it wasn't? Actually, no. It was my fault instead. I was the one who pushed him towards you because I thought it would be the best thing that happened to all three of us."
She walked closer grabbed Amelia by the neck before pushing her against the wall.
"I'd have my best friend with me. He'll have two lovely partners by his side, and you… you'll get to be by the man who stole your heart. But I guess I was wrong. You were the one who pushed him away even though he accepted you despite your faults." she hissed, hitting Amelia with every single word that left her lips.
But she had gone too far.
Clara saw Amelia glare back at her as tears streamed down her face and suddenly, everything turned completely dark.
