Getting a Sugar Mommy in Cultivation World!!

Chapter 696: The New Ruler of The Aradonia City

"Aren't you going to come out and greet me?" He leaned his head backwards and asked with boredom.

Silence lingered for a moment; no response came back, but Noah did not look away from the spot until a figure stepped out from the shadows of the trees.

"I should not be surprised that you know I was to think that someone as powerful as you was living in my city, right under my nose, and did not even get a whiff of your presence."

Noah chuckled hearing his words and joked, "It is no longer your city, you know. Or do you plan to take control after going back now?"

As someone had guessed, the person who stepped out was none other than the former city lord of the Aradonia city, Xu Shang.

Xu Shang let out a long, exhausted sigh and shook his head. "No, I am done with that shit. I never wanted to be the city lord; my father left me the responsibilities before passing away. Those people were never grateful to me for what I did, and I always wanted to quit."

He also leaned against the tree beside him and sighed again, "This way I can get away for good."

Then his eyes landed on one of the decapitated bodies on the ground, making him let out a bitter chuckle, "I never thought that Gong Ho was going to betray me."

"He served under my father as a child as well." He glanced at Noah and began reminiscing about the past. "I always had a knack for smelling out when something was wrong.

From the moment I met that widow, I knew she was trouble, and then I found out about her dealings with that woman when she started spreading rumors."

Leaning his head back on the trunk of the tree, he gazed on the monstrous spider beast watching Noah with reverence and fear. "Then I started to feel that something bad was about to happen and used my secret clone technique no one knew about to hide in a safe house."

"I hoped that it was merely an illusion that Gong Ho was planning something… I hoped that everything would return to normal and I would come out in one year…"

"But I had never thought that things would ever turn out like this."

Noah finally couldn't take it anymore and asked with a raised eyebrow, "Why are you narrating your life like you are about to die here?"

"Relax, I don't plan to kill you."

Xu Shang looked at Noah with a bewildered expression; with a bit of hesitation and doubt, he asked, "You are not going to kill me?"

"I don't. I might change my mind if you don't stop narrating the past like that mob character on his deathbed."

Although he had no idea what Noah was spouting, he made his peace with the fact that he was going to get out of this place alive.

Xu Shang sneakily looked at the beast behind Noah as he was turning around to leave.

But then he seemed to have thought of something and looked at Noah with doubt. "If you don't mind me asking, what are your plans for now?"

Noah narrowed his eyes, which scared the man, but he held his ground. But then, his frown eased and a smirk appeared on his face. "Didn't you say you are tired of those people? Are you suddenly worried about them?"

Xu Shang coughed in embarrassment; he knew that this unknown, powerful cultivator had seen through his thoughts.

Noah gave him a long look before saying, "There is nothing I plan to do. I will go into seclusion and see how the city turns out to be under her rule, and if things become dire, I will step in."

Woosh!

Before he could say anything, Xu Shang felt his surroundings shifting, and he was standing at the end of the forest around the Aradonia city.

Seeing this, he let out a strained sigh and shook his head. Looking in the direction of his former city for the last time, he finally left.

Noah returned to the city, back to his hotel room. Sitting on his bed, he checked the bead he had obtained. "This thing is unexpectedly more real than the trial itself."

Whispering to himself, he stored it away and entered a meditative state.

Hours turned into days, and the news of Xu Shan's 'death' spread through the city like wildfire.

Most of the houses celebrated his death like a festival. In the last beast tide, Andis gained a lot of fame because of her strength, and it helped her gain a place in the public's heart.

She was the poor disciple of the city lord who suffered under his tyranny.

Once she was in power, Andis truly felt the weight of the responsibilities of the city lord.

This position had nothing to do with power; she had to make decisions with her mind, but as it turned out, she had prior experience in such matters, and she was not an expert in managing a single place, let alone a city.

She started making decisions based on what she thought made her look good.

She took two years to consolidate her rule and gather the knowledge on everything that was happening in the city with the help of the appointed officials in the manor.

Besides Gong Ho, there were many workers who were responsible for this kind of work.

Her first major action was to take down every single thing related to Goddess Ana. She knew that people were obsessed with the goddess, but she hated her.

The goddess reminded her of her powerless self and the dark past.

She placed her own statue in the church, making the people worship her.

Although reluctant, the people had no choice when they learned that she had become a cultivator.

They were nothing but mortals who could only obey the commands of the powerful.

And just like that, thirty years had passed.

The city that was once functioning well despite how dire its states were was now left in ruins…
