chapter 240
Chapter 240. Jealous? You Should Be.
Now that she had found Noah, Clothilde saw no need to stay in the red-light district’s underground.
Dejected, she chose to return to the surface.
Noah, seeing this, didn’t bother with any protagonist-style consolation. Instead, he simply followed a little behind her, watching her from that distance.
Just like when she’d looked at Her Highness, the Princess, before.
Because she didn’t have any specific goal in this city, Clotilde had nowhere to really go.
Or rather, scouring the streets for suspicious traces *was* her purpose here.
But, consumed by self-loathing, she really didn’t have the heart to do anything else.
She was worried that she might fall before she even managed to find that fiend, a dread that even praying to the goddess of faith couldn’t diminish.
She couldn’t talk about this with anyone else. The only person with whom she could even *share* this unease, was probably this annoying man behind her who was gleefully observing her lost spirit.
“…Mr. Noah, you’re a member of the clergy, just like me, so why do you not only believe in the Goddess, but also trample on the Church’s rules so freely? Aren’t you even *a little* embarrassed?”
Twenty minutes after leaving the underground passage, Clotilde finally stopped walking, turning to face the dark-haired youth who had been watching her the whole time, and asked the question she had probably asked countless times before.
But this time, instead of being fueled by indignation, Clotilde’s question was laced with confusion and despair in her gaze.
She didn’t really understand why she was so anxious about the future.
But Noah seemed not to care about anything at all. Surely there was a reason behind this mentality?
“Hmm? Of course not, why would I be embarrassed? I haven’t done anything wrong.”
Hearing this, Noah, who had been following her the entire way, replied without a moment’s hesitation.
And Noah’s face was still full of that relaxed – or rather, natural – ease that Clotilde envied.
That arrogant smile, brimming with mockery, was as if he was asking Clotilde why she would ask such a stupid question.
“…Even though you’re a priest who goes to brothels, and even forced me, a nun, to commit a transgression together inside the sacred cathedral?”
Clotilde stared quietly at Noah’s face, her voice tinged with a note of exasperation as she reminded him of his misdeeds.
“What? You wouldn’t happen to be envious, would you?”
Facing the full force of her gaze, Noah just broadened his smile even further, not showing even the slightest sign of a conscience weighed down by criticism.
“…Maybe, if only I had your thick skin, Mr. Noah.”
Clotilde closed her eyes, looking away from Noah, and sighed softly.
If only she could be as carefree as Noah.
But she couldn’t, she just felt so anxious.
If Noah could comfort her by saying some nice things right now, she might feel a bit better.
“Haha, well then I’m truly sorry to hear that.”
But all Noah did was let out a laugh that was completely lacking in apology and utterly malicious.
“…Sigh.”
This left Clotilde with nothing to do but sigh.
So, even with all this anxiety, she just had to bear it all by herself…
Expecting Mr. Noah to listen to her troubles like a proper priest was clearly still too much to ask.
……If I really turn into a succubus, I’ll definitely drain this sadistic priest dry, the one who doesn’t know the meaning of gentleness, and who’s over there with that fearless, wicked grin.
Clotilde thought this, the worst possible outcome, with a touch of self-destructive abandon.
That’s what she thought, but Clotilde didn’t actually want to fall into succubus-hood, she was just being a little spiteful.
After that.
Noah and Clotilde went to that same café from before for a while to rest, then they went to the city’s church to ask the priests there if they had any worries she could help with.
Of course, Noah was just accompanying her; he wasn’t going to actively offer his help.
After leaving the church it was 4:10 in the afternoon, and according to Noah’s original plan, they were still just supposed to wander around.
Just like in the original game, you just wandered around, either working to make money or grinding levels before the main storyline was triggered – no events would be triggered.
But that was only for Clotilde.
As for Noah, who could jump back and forth between two different games, the nun’s storyline had to wait; what might happen with the princess was anyone’s guess.
Noah had already completely messed with the princess’s original storyline.
The second-to-last boss, the blonde Alan, had ‘completely disappeared’.
Because the princess hadn’t traveled all over the country, there was no need to fight the final boss either.
It was no surprise that new, non-canon events could happen with the princess now.
So, Noah would occasionally, during his free time, casually monitor the dungeons in the kingdom, especially the high-level ones.
Maybe some event like ‘Alan’s Demon Vanguard annihilated; new demon Four Heavenly Kings secretly on the move’ had triggered?
And just as Clotilde was still talking to the nuns at this church, Noah was casually looking around and he really did spot something strange.
In a dungeon in the southwest of the kingdom, there was a clearly abnormal, mutated monster attacking normal monsters, and, to be precise, it was a humanoid monster girl.
That was a rare phenomenon; from a gameplay perspective, monsters exist so that the main character can kill them and level up – they don’t kill each other.
If it was happening, then it definitely meant some kind of event was triggering.
Thinking that there wasn’t anything else to do here, might as well go over there and mess around,
Noah smiled at Clotilde as she approached him, and said:
“I just remembered there’s something I need to do, Miss Nun, why don’t you just kill some time around here; I have to go out for a bit.”
“…Mr. Noah, you’re not going to a brothel, are you?”
Hearing Noah say that, Clotilde would naturally suspect Noah was going back to that underground street.
She thought that her asking around for Noah in the underground red-light district had possibly messed with Noah’s plans, so Noah was going off again by himself.
“Heh heh, you know me so well, that’s exactly it; I’ll see you later.”
Noah didn’t see a need to explain that he was going to a dungeon in another country.
After all, Clotilde still didn’t know Noah’s true identity.
Letting her think he was going to a brothel wasn’t a bad way to go either.
So Noah, real casual, just waved at her and turned to leave.
Leaving Clotilde with a back view that was enviable… even you could say a little jealous.
She thought about it, and yeah, she decided she should totally sneak after him.
She didn’t have anything else to do anyway.
Noah told her to find some way to kill time, so she chose stalking, then.
And, timing it, she felt like her l*st/marks on her abdomen were about to flare up again, what would she do if Noah wasn’t there?
Anyway, the nun found herself a whole bunch of excuses to tail Noah.
Just after Noah turned left from the church, she immediately sprinted to the wall by the church entrance, using the wall to hide herself, and peeked her head out onto the street Noah had taken, trying to follow him bit by bit like that.
“Huh?”
But she didn’t expect to hit a snag in her first step.
Noah had only been out of sight for a few seconds, but neither the street to his left nor the street to his right held any trace of him.
This left the nun, who thought of herself as one of the higher-ups in the church, a bit confused as she stepped out from behind the wall.
—Could it be that Mr. Noah is actually even stronger than me? Or does he have some special ability that even I don’t know about?
She scanned around for the black-haired youth’s figure, but no matter how she searched, she couldn’t find him, and the nun slowly started to realize that Noah was probably even more suspicious than she thought.
…
…
PS. Sorry for making you, dear readers, wait so long. I had a bit of writer’s block so the update is late. And starting from the next chapter, we’ll get to the beloved plot of the nun turning into a l*st/demon queen.
Three updates today, this is the first.
