Genshin Impact: I'm The Envoy of Snezhnaya

Chapter 76: Chapter 76: The Unreasonable Fatui

Night had fallen.

A single Cecilia flower had been planted in a flowerpot and placed on the windowsill.

Though this type of flower only grows on Starsnatch Cliff, it can survive in a pot with proper care.

The matters concerning the diplomat and the missionary were not something Lisa needed to worry about, but to help her friends, she found time in the evening to tend to the flower.

She looked up at the iron bars in front of her window and nodded in satisfaction.

Mr. Wagner's craftsmanship was truly excellent. She had personally had someone test it, and even trying to break them with brute force wouldn't work. At least for the past two days, no one dared enter through the window.

Glancing back at her laboratory, she saw that Cyno had locked himself inside ever since he returned from Starsnatch Cliff. He still hadn't come out.

Ah, young people... so full of energy.

Just as Lisa was feeling sentimental, a faint "whoosh—clang!" sound echoed.

A dagger flew from below, accurately striking the iron bars and wrapping around them.

A sharp hissing sound followed as Bai Luo, using the wire, ascended to the window.

Originally, he planned to use his hand to bend the bars, but to his surprise, the iron was so sturdy that he couldn't manage to budge them.

Lisa: "..."

Luckily, she had ordered those custom-made iron bars; otherwise...

"How thoughtful. I used to worry that the wooden windowsill might not hold up, always feeling anxious when I climbed up. But it seems the esteemed Miss Rose has kindly installed iron bars just for me. How considerate."

Bai Luo, having quantum-shifted through the bars, entered the room.

He almost knocked over the Cecilia flower but quickly caught it and set it upright again, remarking in admiration.

Whether his comment was genuine or laced with sarcasm, only he knew.

"…As long as you're happy."

Lisa sighed, setting down her watering can.

Next time, she thought, it might be best to add an electric current to the bars.

"Cyno's with you, right?"

After a brief, casual greeting, Bai Luo got straight to the point.

He was here to see Cyno.

"How did you…? Well, yes, he's here."

Lisa initially found it odd that Bai Luo knew Cyno was at her place. But after thinking it over, Mondstadt was crawling with Fatui spies, and since Cyno was familiar with her, if he wasn't at the library, this would be the next logical place.

In truth, the reason was much simpler than Lisa imagined. Bai Luo had tracked Cyno using a mark he had placed on him.

When they had first met, Bai Luo had appeared from stealth to initiate conversation, already marking Cyno at that moment.

The mark forced him to appear physically, which explained their initial encounter.

"He's conducting an experiment in there. I suggest you not disturb him," Lisa said, pointing toward the lab.

Scholars from the Sumeru Akademiya disliked being interrupted while conducting experiments, especially the old ones.

There had even been a case where a professor had chased a student across half of Sumeru for interrupting their work.

"Alright, no problem. I totally understand."

With that, Bai Luo kicked open the laboratory door.

Lisa: "..."

It seems that reasoning with members of the Fatui is completely pointless, after all.

Inside the lab, Cyno was still wearing the same attire as before.

At this moment, he was hunched over the desk, using a quill to jot something down.

Beside him was a sealed bottle containing a suspicious liquid with a few pieces of residue floating inside.

It was something he brought back from the site of the seal, a rare research material since the residue that afflicted Collei was something worth studying.

So before he left, he specifically took some samples from the magic circle.

"Don't touch anything here carelessly."

Bai Luo made such a racket when he entered that it was impossible for Cyno not to notice.

However, dealing with the unreasonable Fatui was never easy, so he just gave a warning.

"What about what I mentioned to you yesterday? Have you thought about it?"

Bai Luo hadn't touched anything recklessly.

He was observing the various bottles and jars around while contemplating whether to take something useful.

For instance, that substance over there that seemed highly toxic—wouldn't it work well if smeared on a blade?

Cyno's hand, which had been writing, paused at Bai Luo's question.

"Why do you want to do this?"

If it had been anyone else, Cyno might have agreed right away, but the person negotiating with him was Bai Luo, an executive of the Fatui.

Every action of these executives brought about calamities at a national level.

Like what had just happened in Mondstadt—if not for Collei, who wandered into the city, the damage might have been worse than a few years ago.

Cyno wasn't sure whether the Fatui would force their way into Mondstadt again, but it was likely that some of its top officials would vanish, especially those in key positions.

"I have my reasons, but this time it's purely personal and has nothing to do with the Fatui."

"You think I would trust you?"

Cyno set down his quill, having lost the mood to continue writing.

He looked at Bai Luo, his eyes full of suspicion.

Just as he said, they had only known each other for a few days.

Even Diluc, who had cooperated with Bai Luo a few times, still held a negative opinion of him, so it was no surprise Cyno felt the same.

If you counted on your fingers, there were few characters who would develop a favorable impression of Bai Luo: Qiqi, whom he had never met; Yoimiya, who sold fireworks; Tartaglia, who sold toys; and, of course, Itto.

Kujou Sara's feelings were ambiguous, and Kazuha only held a positive opinion of Bai Luo when he was in his sword-drawing stance.

Yae Miko, the sly fox... her opinion would be fleeting.

If Bai Luo amused her, she might have the highest favorability. But if she found him boring, it could easily drop to negative.

As for Tartaglia, it was still uncertain if he liked Bai Luo or not, given that Bai Luo had turned down his battle invitations multiple times.

Oh well, at least he wasn't heading to Liyue anytime soon, so he could avoid dealing with Tartaglia for now.

"You don't trust me? Fine, there are other avenues. I could just send it through Fatui channels—it'd save me some effort."

Bai Luo, seemingly pleased, picked up a row of vials.

Whether it was because of the potion that could turn people into animals, or because Cyno refused his request, was unclear.

"..."

Was this a threat?

It definitely sounded like a threat.

If Bai Luo were to leverage the Fatui's influence, perhaps it would be better if Cyno handled the matter himself. That way, he wouldn't have to worry about any schemes or plots Bai Luo might weave.

But then—

Crack

Cyno's quill, unable to withstand the force of his grip, snapped in half.

"I agree."

Beneath the hood, Cyno's face was hidden in shadows, making it impossible to tell whether he was happy or sad. But that didn't concern Bai Luo.

"A sensible answer. I'll be waiting for your news."

With those parting words and the potion that could transform people into animals in hand, Bai Luo vanished from Cyno's sight.

Cyno, with a sigh, resumed writing his paper—though now, his handwriting betrayed a hint of inner conflict.
