Chapter 27: Chapter 26 The puppet's invitation again
Ethan and Matthew follow closely in the footsteps of the Guardians with the High Priest as they navigate the depths of the ruins, each step bringing them closer to the truth. No one noticed, however, that in a shadowy corner several shadowy figures were watching them coldly.
These figures are not ordinary beings, but puppets disguised as witches. The Marionettes waited insidiously, plotting their next move. There was an eerie glow in their eyes, as if they were enjoying what was about to happen.
As Ethan and his party entered the inner chamber of the palace, the puppets began to act. They use witch spells to silently approach their targets, casting powerful spells of disenchantment that trap the Guardian and the High Priest in an illusory boundary. The power of the boundary makes their perception and judgment blurred, and they can't distinguish between reality and illusion.
Sensing an anomaly around him, the High priest attempts to cast a spell to break the barrier, but the puppets have already laid a deadly trap. A puppet disguised as a witch suddenly appeared behind the high priest, holding an eerily glowing staff in its hand, and quickly delivered a fatal blow.
"Who are you? " The high priest exclaimed, trying to fend off the attack, but it was too late.
The rod of the Marionette gave off a cold glow that pierced the high priest's back. The High priest let out a cry of pain and tried to fight back with his last strength, but his life force quickly passed and he could no longer sustain his spell. The Marionettes sneered at the high priest's struggle, their voices full of mockery and contempt.
"You are nothing but an arrogant puppet who will die if he tries to pry into our secrets." The Marionette's voice was cold and harsh, as if from the depths of hell.
The high priest's eyes gradually lost their luster, and finally he fell feebly to the ground. His blood stained the floor of the palace, symbolizing the fall of a powerful Draconist. Only then did Ethan and Matthew realize what had happened, and they turned to see the moment the High priest fell, their hearts filled with shock and anger.
"You guys... Who the hell is that? " Matthew roared, trying to summon his own strength, but felt a wave of weakness, as if the air around him had been stifled by the puppets' magic.
Ethan felt a strong sense of unease, knowing that these puppets were far more powerful than they had ever imagined. He must find a way to escape, but just as he is about to make his move, a puppet suddenly turns to him with a strange smile on his lips.
"Ethan, we've been waiting for you for a long time." "Whispered the Marionette, with some irresistible force in his voice.
Before Ethan can react, the puppets work together to perform a powerful dream spell that quickly pulls Ethan's consciousness into another dimension. Ethan's vision became blurred, the scene quickly disappeared, and he felt as if he was falling in endless darkness, his consciousness gradually slipping into a dream.
In his dream, Ethan found himself in a strange wasteland, surrounded by a faint mist, and a dark red moon in the distant sky. Everything here seems strange and unreal, as if it were a relic of some other world.
"Where is this? Ethan whispered to himself, trying to sort out his confused thoughts.
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from behind him, with a cold taunt, "Welcome to our world, Ethan."
Ethan turned abruptly and saw several puppets standing in front of him with strange smiles on their faces. Their eyes gleamed with malice and playfulness, as if they were waiting for Ethan's response.
"What do you want?" Ethan bellowed, trying to escape the shackles of the dream.
The Marionettes laughed more insidiously. "We just want to see how far you can go in this dream and how much pain you can bear."
"You won't succeed! Ethan gritted his teeth and tried to mobilize the power within him, but found himself greatly weakened in this dream.
The puppets paid no attention to his struggles and began to set up traps and challenges in their dreams, their voices echoing through the air with endless malice and mockery.
"Ethan, you must pass our test, or you will forever be trapped in this dream from which you cannot wake up." "Said one of the Marionettes coldly.
Ethan's heart gave a sudden jolt as he tried to stay awake, but the scene around him began to twist and blur. The figures of the puppets flit in and out of his vision, as if to drag him into endless confusion.
Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared in front of him. Ethan's eyes widened, filled with unease and doubt. That's Carl, the pharmacist who helped him in real life.
"Carl?" Ethan couldn't believe his eyes, but that face, those intelligent eyes, was Carl.
"Ethan, stop struggling." Carl said gently, with a touch of fatigue and reassurance in his voice, "You've had enough of all this. Give up and join us, the world is not worth fighting."
Ethan felt a twinge, and he shook his head, trying to shake off the strange temptation, "No, you're not really Carl. You're just an illusion disguised by these puppets!"
Carl smiled slightly, with a disturbing glint in his eye, "Ethan, you don't have to be so nervous. We just want to make it easy for you. You've suffered so much, don't you want to rest and enjoy the world?"
Ethan felt his will waver, and he tried to remember that the real Carl, always a firm and calm pharmacist, would not give up so easily. He took a deep breath and tried to compose himself.
However, Carl's figure faded and another man appeared in front of him. Ethan's heart tightened again as he saw the Druid, the friend who had helped him in the dream world but had died protecting himself.
"Druid! Ethan almost lost his voice. He couldn't believe he was seeing him again.
The Druid approached Ethan with a smile and held out his hand as if inviting him, "Ethan, why are you still resisting? It's all predetermined. Come, lay down your burdens, and play with us the fate of this world."
Ethan's heart was filled with pain and struggle. His hands trembled uncontrollably, and he knew that this was not a real Druid, but the vision before him was so vivid that it seemed as if he were facing real friends.
"You're not a Druid... You can't be..." Ethan's voice began to tremble, and his will began to break.
"Why can't it be?" The Druid whispered, with a touch of sadness and sarcasm in his voice, "I only wish you could be free of all this pain. We were friends and we can still be friends if you're willing to let go of those struggles."
Ethan felt his will dissipate, and a wave of helplessness and despair filled his heart. He began to doubt himself, to wonder whether it was all real or not.
Just as Ethan's will began to crumble, another figure appeared in his vision. This time, it's Matthew.
'Matthew! There was a tinge of pain and longing in Ethan's voice.
Matthew approached with a smile, with deep care and worry in his eyes. "Ethan, I know you're tired. You don't have to go through this alone anymore. Let it go. Come with us. You will find that the world is actually interesting if you let go of unnecessary burdens."
Ethan's spirit was on the verge of collapse, and the wave of visions around him seemed to overwhelm him completely. He looked at the friends who had helped him in the dream world, and little by little the defenses in his heart were crumbling.
"You guys... You're all lying to me... Isn't that right?" Ethan's voice was filled with despair, and he couldn't tell what was real and what was an illusion.
Matthew said softly. 'We never meant to hurt you, Ethan. We just want you to see the beauty of the other world. Come on, stay with us, you'll find it's a lot easier than you think."
An unspeakable pain welled up in Ethan's heart, and his vision became blurred, as if the whole world was exerting endless pressure on him. The inner struggle made him almost suffocate, and he felt that he was about to be completely consumed by these visions.
Just as Ethan's will was about to break down completely, he felt a powerful surge of power within him. It was another existence hidden deep inside him - the personality of a madman.
"You despicable wretches..." Ethan bellowed, with a cold fury in his voice. "Do you think you can beat me so easily?"
The force gradually took over his consciousness, and his eyes became wild and cold. He was no longer the gentle and confused Ethan, but a madman filled with anger and endless murderousness.
'That's enough! Ethan's voice suddenly became hoarse and powerful, and his eyes lit up with a crazy glow. "I won't be manipulated by you anymore! Now it's your turn to taste real fear!"
The madman personality completely took over Ethan's body, and his laughter echoed through the dream like a demonic whisper, with endless menace and madness. He was no longer the hesitating Ethan, but a being who had completely abandoned reason and immersed himself in destruction and violence.
"Ha ha ha! Ethan laughed, his voice full of hubris and disdain. His eyes were cold, as if he wanted to tear the whole dream apart.
The first person to appear in front of him was Carl, the pharmacist who had helped him in real life. At the moment, Carl's face was pleading and helpless, but Ethan's heart was not a trace of pity. There was a powerful energy in his hands, and he did not hesitate to strike Carl with a fatal blow.
"You're not really Carl!" Ethan said with a sneer, the power of his hands pouring out like a flood, tearing Carl's body apart in an instant. Carl's vision disappeared before his eyes, as if it had never existed.
Then the figure of the Druid appeared before him. The friend who had sacrificed himself to protect him in the dream was now Ethan's next target. With a flicker of sadness in his eyes, the Druid tried to persuade Ethan to stop, but the madman personality had taken over Ethan's mind.
"Your sacrifice was for nothing!" Ethan roared, wielding the power of his hand, destroying the Druid. The Druid's figure turned to ashes in the fury of energy and dissipated into the air.
Finally, Matthew appeared with a look of despair and fear on his face. He had been Ethan's friend and companion, but now the madman only saw him as an enemy.
'You all deserve to die! Ethan's voice was full of rage and hate, and he didn't hesitate to deliver the final blow that tore Matthew's vision to shreds.
The whole dream quickly collapses under Ethan's violent attack, and the unreal world begins to fall apart, as if in an apocalyptic scene. Ethan's laughter echoed through the ruins of the dream, and his eyes sparkled wildly, without a trace of pity or retreat.
"You brought this on yourselves! You tried to play with me, and now you have a taste of being played with!" Ethan laughed wildly and strode to the edge of the dream, forcibly tearing the barrier between reality and dream.
With the dream completely shattered, Ethan suddenly opens his eyes and finds himself lying in a bed in a mental hospital. The silence was as if everything that had just happened had been a bad dream. Ethan knew, however, that it was all real, that the crazy power was still surging inside him.
He was free, his eyes still shining with that wild light. He knew he couldn't stay here any longer, he had to leave and find his own path, wherever it led.
Ethan stood up, looked around coldly, and without a moment's hesitation, turned and left the room. His steps were firm and heavy, each with an unshakable determination.
After he left, the laughter of the puppets came out of the darkness, hiding in the remnants of their dreams, their eyes shining with ecstasy and excitement.
"Funny, funny! "Said one of the puppets with a grim smile." We thought he would break down, but he got even crazier."
"This is a pleasant surprise." "Echoed another Marionette, with endless anticipation in his voice." I can't wait to see what he'll do next. He'll bring more chaos and fun."
"Let him join us, Ethan's madness is just what we need." He's going to be our best toy." "Said the third Marionette excitedly, with a wicked smile in his voice.
The puppets continued to whisper and laugh in the darkness, knowing that Ethan's story was far from over, and that he would be their greatest source of pleasure between reality and dreams. No matter where he goes, Ethan can't escape the madness and darkness that's deep inside him.
