Chapter 38: Jiang Ni's love for Qin Wei
"Young Master, it's me… I need to talk to you…" She spoke again.
But there is no response from Qin Wei.
She frowned, reached out, and gently nudged his shoulder. "Young master… wake up… It's urgent."
Still nothing.
Jiang Ni bit her lip, hesitating. Her gaze dipped to his peaceful expression. "He's seriously meditating? Right now? But I need to talk to him right now. There's not much time. How to wake him up?"
A teasing smirk tugged at her lips as something clicked in her head. "Yup, there's a perfect way to wake up a man who is too lost in his own world."
She slid onto the bed and climbed into his lap, wrapping her arms loosely around his waist. Her warm breath fanned against his cheek. Still no reaction.
"Really now? Even with this?" she thought mischievously.
But then, she felt a certain reaction from below.
Her eyes gleamed.
"Aha… so it's not like your body's asleep," she murmured and leaned in, lips brushing against his.
In that instant, the air around them crackled.
Qin Wei's eyes shot open, glowing with his Xielun Yan, two gouyu spinning rapidly in his irises. A shockwave of chakra burst from his body.
"Wha…!"
Before she could react, he shoved her off in pure reflex.
She tumbled back with a soft grunt, landing on the mattress below them.
He stared at her, stunned, chest heaving slightly. "Ah?"
"Jiang Ni… what the hell are you doing?" he asked, voice low and rough.
She blinked up at him, flushed but unashamed. Her expression softened slightly. "Young Master wouldn't wake up. I tried calling you. Nudging you. Shaking you. You were completely unresponsive. And you don't have much time until dawn."
She looked away, fiddling with her fingers as she added, almost too quietly, "I thought this would work."
Qin Wei exhaled heavily, his eyes turning normal. "You scared the crap out of me," he muttered, rubbing his forehead.
There was a beat of silence. Then, almost teasingly, Jiang Ni murmured, "But… it worked, didn't it?"
Qin Wei closed his eyes, the bridge of his nose tightening with frustration. "Don't do that again," he said, his voice low but steady.
Jiang Ni lowered her gaze, nodding without a word.
Qin Wei exhaled, the irritation in his chest unraveling into something softer. But just as the moment calmed, the flickering light of the holographic screen caught his attention. He turned his head slightly to glance at it.
[Synchronization with Nature has been disrupted. Current Sync: 8%]
And then, it vanished.
No explanation. No details. Just… gone.
Qin Wei frowned. "Synchroinzation with nature?" He filed the thought away for later. No time now. He turned his attention back to Jiang Ni, who was fidgeting slightly with something tucked inside her sleeve.
"Alright… what is it?" he asked.
Jiang Ni looked up, hesitating for a moment, then pulled out a thin, elegant weapon from her robes. A dagger… no, more like a long needle forged from black titanium steel, the kind only high sects crafted. She held it out with both hands, the dagger resting on her palms like an offering.
"Young Master, I heard about the duel," she said, voice gentle but firm. "I… I was worried. So I came in a hurry to give you this. It has the ability to pierce through any defenses. That Xu Xianfeng wouldn't be a match to Young Master with this weapon."
Qin Wei blinked at the blade, tempted for a second. "You know I can't use borrowed weapons," he said. "And I was the one who put the condition in the first place.
Jiang Ni nodded. Her grip tightened, then loosened as she slowly extended the weapon closer. "But it's not a borrowed weapon if I give it away to Young Master," she said with her gaze unwavering. "I already severed the soul link. It's yours now."
Qin Wei stared at her, stunned. "But that dagger… wasn't it your late master's gift?"
She smiled faintly, placing the dagger on the bed between them.
"She would understand. If she were alive, she would've wanted me to protect the person I care about. Even if I get demoted to an outer sect disciple, it doesn't matter. You matter more. Moreover, I'm a sorcerer; it is more useful to Young Master than me."
Her words struck him harder than he expected.
Qin Wei looked at her. Really looked.
The worry in her eyes. The soft tremble in her fingers. The tension in her shoulders she tried to hide.
Even if Qin Wei is not the original one, how could he not get touched by her actions, by her concern, and her love?
As he stared at her, those memories of their past couldn't help but replay in his mind like highlights of a football match. It's as if either his own brain or the system itself was making him remember their connection.
But even then, he couldn't shake off the reluctance. He felt it was too much. "I know that you were worried about me, but you actually don't have to…"
*Ding!
Qin Wei paused what he was about to say as the glowing words on the holographic screen stared back at him:
[Trade Request: Exchange Dagger of Baiyue Sect for 50,000 Credits]
Accept? [Yes] / [No]
His pupils contracted. "50,000?"
That was enough to buy a full A-rank skill, powerful enough to shift the tide of a battle.
Heck, it was six times more than what the system had offered him for the Guinyan Weeping Tears, a heavenly treasure in its own right. And then there was the word he hadn't expected to see again:
Baiyue Sect.
He had just read about it a couple of days ago, an ancient sect, powerful enough to shake nations. A Half Deity and ten grandmasters, and a lineage that had lasted for centuries. However, such a sect was wiped out overnight, and no one knows why or how.
He lowered his gaze, staring at the dagger resting across his palm.
His lips parted, ready to reject the trade. But he swallowed the words as the temptation of 50,000 credits was too much for Qin Wei. At the same time, there was this guilt that was like eating him, telling him not to take advantage of the woman's love.
Sensing emotional turmoil in her master, Jiang Ni leaned forward slightly and whispered: "I want Young Master to have it."
That quiet certainty in her voice broke something inside him. Shutting his eyes, he took a deep breath, making a choice.
Qin Wei looked up. His eyes softened. He let out a breath like deflating armor. "Jiang'er…" he said, his voice rougher than he intended.
