Chapter 624: Godwyn's Interlude
--
Godwyn stood at the rooftop of a building...his building, looking at the strange scenery before him and the weird sky above.
The wind ruffled his hair, and the fading glare of sunlight illuminated his thoughtful face. His golden eyes sparkled as he surveyed the lands. Anyone who saw the glint in his eyes would think that he might be planning something big, but in truth, he wasn't; that's just what his eyes do when light is reflected on them.
He roused from his thoughts once he heard a pair of heels clacking behind him, approaching closer. Its sound and rhythm were all too familiar to him that he didn't have to turn around to look at who it was.
"Sir, it's closing time. We should go."
Godwyn didn't respond right away; instead, he kept looking at the scenery before him.
"What's my schedule for tomorrow, Trish?" He asked his secretary.
The lady wore a baffled look on her face but checked his schedule anyway. With a few taps in the air, she pulled out a system interface displaying his schedule and reported to him.
"You're free tomorrow, and for the rest of the week, actually. Do you need me to make changes to that?"
Once again, Godwyn didn't answer right away. He kept staring out, his face remaining thoughtful.
Patricia, or as she prefers to be called, 'Trish,' flinched as her hair was scattered by the strong winds. She carefully and elegantly tucked her hair behind her ears as she patiently waited for her boss' response.
"Come here," she suddenly heard him say.
"Sir?" Trish sounded confused.
"I said, come here."
Godwyn now turns to her. His expression was gentle, and his eyes were sincere. Trish hesitated at first before walking closer to him.
"Ah!"
She let out a surprised yelp when he suddenly held her arm and pulled her closer. Now, she's standing in front of him, his arms wrapped around her narrow waist and his chin resting on her shoulders.
"S-Sir, this is very inappropriate. We are in the office!" Her voice turned pitchy in the end because his warm and large hands felt ticklish even with her clothes on.
"Psh. They're already talking anyway." Godwyn didn't care. Instead, he greedily inhaled the scent of his lady, burying his nose at the crook of her neck.
He felt fire igniting in his loins as she fidgeted in his hold and let out small whimpers of embarrassment.
"B-But, sir..."
"Still calling me, sir?" Godwyn frowned, sounding a bit displeased and whiny. "What happened to Love? Hubby? Dadd—ow!"
"Not the time and place!" Trish hissed at him after pinching him. She sported a bright blush after hearing him bring up her call signs to him.
"Why not? I think it's the perfect time; everybody has left, right? It's the right place too; it's my building after all."
"That's not what I mean!"
"Oh. Then I assume that you don't want me to do it while I'm wearing a suit? Okay, I'll strip naked now— ow!"
"Behave!"
Godwyn chuckled at his fuming girlfriend. He went silent and just held her like before, enjoying the peace and silence around them.
He never thought he'd settle down with someone this early. He never thought that he'd date his secretary either, yet here he was. Fate does work in mysterious ways.
Trish has been his secretary since he became the governor of Solaris Prime. He could still remember how naive she was and how all of this was completely out of her element. She was ignorant about the true scale of the world, what real power meant, how to run a business empire, how to use appearance as a show of power and prestige, and so on...
Yet at that time, she was the only one who came close to being qualified, so she took on the position of his secretary.
She stumbled a lot; there's no denying that. Godwyn had to cover for her mistakes several times, and in some cases, it hurt his own image to do so. Yet he didn't care and still did it anyway because Trish kept getting back up, stronger, more resilient, sharper, and way better. She kept up with her duties, and at some point, even started going above and beyond. The once naive and ignorant girl has now turned into one of the brightest and sharpest strategists and professionals of Solaris Prime.
Yet even with all of her progress and her different image to others. Godwyn still sees her as an adorable kitten, the same impression he had of her on her first day at work.
Godwyn never thought he'd date her. If you were to tell him this about five to six years ago, he'd probably vehemently deny it and say that it's impossible. Adding that office romance was never really his thing.
See, Godwyn and his brothers not only inherited their father's charm but also his amorousness and libido (yes, Gerald too). Godwyn was a playboy, just like his father back in the day. He often goes out and sleeps around with ladies but never commits to anything serious.
Back then, he used to say that it's more fun that way. No strings, no attachments, no sudden dramas. Just pure desire and fleshly need. Sex was a fantastic way to unwind his tired and consistently engaged mind, so he's having it as much as he can, and it's never been difficult for him to find a partner who's not only willing but also an active participant in this activity.
Everything changed one day, though...
It happened around five years ago. It started out as a normal day that turned into a celebration because the business empire expanded again.
The company threw a party, and as the boss, he's the main character and couldn't be missing. Trish was there too, as always, but she always excuses herself first before it becomes too late.
Trish can hold her alcohol better than most; she has trained herself to do so. But the drinks that night were different. It's the kind that even Godwyn, an avid alcoholic, admitted to being a little too strong.
And poor Trish was gone. She started babbling and stripping. And so, with his remaining sanity left, Godwyn sent her home personally, trusting others to deal with the mess behind.
Alas, that alcohol was really too strong. When he got to her home, he was barely sane. And whatever was left of his sanity dissipated when she clung to him, breathing heavily, and started feeling him up.
Things got weird the morning and the days following that incident...
It took a while for everybody to move on from that disaster. As for Godwyn and Trish, well, their relationship became ambiguous.
See, he regained his sanity at some point in the middle of that night, and in the middle of them doing it...Trish, too. Yet instead of stopping and setting the records straight, they went on with it with even more fervor than before.
Suffice it to say, Trish ruined sex for Godwyn...because if it's not with her, then he doesn't even feel it.
Their relationship didn't start right away, though. Godwyn might be a playboy, but he's also a gentleman and smarter than most. Even though she made him feel things, he didn't start anything because it's too shallow.
At first, he figured that it's just sex. It'd pass by quick.
He's wrong. Dead wrong. Because he ached for her. The longer they don't see each other, the more they feel weak and unusual. In the end, neither of them could fight the attraction that brought them closer and closer.
In the end, Godwyn was snared. He gave up resisting because he just couldn't. He's ruined for everybody else.
"Trish?"
"Hmm?" she hummed while resting her head on him.
"I'd like you to meet my parents," Godwyn stated but sounded more like a question or a request.
Trish was puzzled, asking, "Why? Do we need their advice again? For what? Another expansion? I thought you said you wouldn't expand the company anytime soon?"
The corners of Godwyn's lip twitched upon hearing him. He then spun her around so that she was facing him. Godwyn stared at her intently. Then, Trish's confused expression warped into something else.
"Oh..."
"Mhm." Godwyn nodded, but not before rolling his eyes. "I'm not taking you to them for another business proposal. It's to introduce you."
Trish blushed again before saying, "But they already knew, right?"
"I wasn't finished." Godwyn sighed.
He held her hand, caressing it gently. Then, under her surprised face, a ring...an engagement ring appeared on his hand.
"I'd like to introduce you to them as my fiancé, if it's alright with you." Godwyn took a deep breath before mustering all the passion he had before asking the magical question.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes. Yes!" Trish's response was immediate. "God, why did it take you this long?"
Godwyn was stunned by her tearful excitement and complaint, yet his heart felt full. He pushed the ring on her finger, and before he knew it, she was already kissing him.
He didn't complain. Couldn't, wouldn't, and would never complain.
If his lady wants kisses or a full-blown make-out session on the rooftop of the building he owns, then that's exactly what she'd get.
Godwyn's all in at this point.
