Chapter 256: The Elf Queen I
It is the third week of our offensive against the capital city of Yggdrasil.
I, Anna Blair, have yet to personally step into the battlefield once. Rather, I have remained in the camp, giving directives to Alana and the rest of the Five Priestesses alongside Lucia and our army of rebellious elves.
I can only say that due to the numerous blessings we received from Ray and Lady Elysir, this campaign has turned out to be so much easier than anticipated. However, our objective is not only a coup d'état but instead a complete takeover of the region's religious standards alongside the possession of the throne.
My aim was not only to personally kill Decem Hougan, I also wished to give this country to Ray, who was not only my beloved, but also my God.
That objective alone would be more difficult than dethroning Decem Hougan. The Elf Kingdom held no churches, priests, or religious beliefs. There was no 'universal truth', but rather the fact that we Elves were the gods from the ancient civilisations.
According to the stories passed down by generations. We forest elves ruled the world alongside the Midnight Elves, the Dark Elves, and the Dragons. With the Midnight Elves being publicly acknowledged as the Ancient Gods. An easy way to achieve my objective would have been to present Lady Galadriel, an ancient Midnight Elf, as our new goddess... just placing her on my side would be enough to sway public opinion and have everyone on my side. Perhaps... I wouldn't even have to invade the Yggdrasil and pull Decem Hougan out of his cave; the people themselves would drag him out if it were ordered by Lady Galadriel.
But that was not the conclusion I wanted. I wanted Ray to be our new God, and therefore... I could go along with that plan. Thankfully, I had Lady Elysir with me.
I began by tasking Nocturna, Yuna and Merluna to create three teams and head to the outskirts of the Kingdom, towards the most run-down tribes that were currently experiencing hunger and injustice.
The papers had inverted. This time, for the sake of our campaign, they wore a disguise, looking like Forest Elves.
Our army wasn't formed only from Elves. We had soldiers from all races, but their turn was not now... if an army of non-elves were to invade, even if they didn't attack any civilians, we would be regarded as criminals. Elves were very patriotic when it came to dealing with other races.
Yuna, Nocturna and Merluna began by settling in those villages and began by feeding those in need. Word began to spread among those in the village about a 'Heroine' who had come to save them from outside the Kingdom, and naturally, those words called for attention.
That was our intention from the start. With the rumours, the elf army under Decem Hougan began to secretly spread in those villages, watching for any disturbances and for our activities. With their presence in those villages, we began to see the first signs of injustice and coercion. Explotation, abuse... the elf army acted unhindered and with impunity.
But that was also a part of the plan. Because we didn't need to act directly. I asked this favour of Lady Elysir. Although she said she wouldn't get involved in our battles, I didn't intend for her to do so; we only needed... a stare~
The first time was when a small elf girl named Cassandra was playing with her friends deep in the night, talking to them about how the 'Starlight Elves' had come and fed her whole family. The kids played, and amid this conversation, a group of mercenaries came.
I called them mercenaries because those bastards couldn't possibly be a law-abiding force. They were grunts ruled by Decem Hougan, thirsty for power.
They questioned the kids about where those 'Starlight Elves' were, but Cassandra refused and even threw a stone at them, prompting the kids to run. They were caught, the others were left off, but Cassandra wasn't... one of those bastards looked at her with lascivious eyes and said to the others he'd take her away for 'questioning'.
That was when, in the middle of the village and with the sights of the villagers watched from the concealment of their homes. They saw a 'Sun Ray' shoot out from the moon in the middle of the night and burn that elf to ashes.
The shock was immediate. That man was burned until not even ashes were left... no words were said for a while until the shouts began.
"It is the Sun God!"
"The Sun God has brought about justice with his Starlight Elves!"
Madness and shouts that disturbed 'peace', but it wasn't peace... it was just quietness. The other mercenaries tried to take Cassandra, but they ended up the same way. Three more beams of light burned three more of them to the crisp, giving them a sign... the message from the Sun God: 'This girl is untouchable'.
This simple act alone was enough to begin setting up the faith in the Sun God in the region. Lady Elysir didn't have to involve herself most of the time, and she even praised me for the idea.
We continued slowly spreading through the region. I allowed Yuna, Nocturna and Merluna to continue on their own, and if they had any trouble or some powerful sorcerer showed up, we could always count on Lady Rubedo's assistance. However, they were Adamantite-ranked adventurers who also counted with Armatista... there would hardly be an elf capable of facing them.
Having left the borders to them, I set up my second plan, and for that, I asked for the assistance of the second-ranked Starlight Angel from heaven underneath Lord Zariel. She was a beautiful angel called Mariel.
She didn't have an issue helping us, as, according to her, the plans I had for her were following the orders she had received from Ray.
All Starlight Angels wouldn't follow orders from anyone other than Ray unless our intentions were aligned with Ray's desires. They were extremely loyal, and in her case, I even detected love.
I allowed Mariel to create a team on her own with only one objective. To assault the three main noble elf families in the capital, which (to our knowledge, thanks to Katsuyu) held the greatest number of slaves beneath the Hougan Family. For this team, she had a group of mixed races... that would stealthily invade the capital and begin an offensive on those families, totally unrelated to our 'Starlight Elf' movement.
This would move away some of Decem Hougan's supporters as they'd be forced to focus on these unexpected invaders.
Elves may be enslaved outside of the Kingdom, but within the Kingdom, they held the greatest number of slaves in a small territory aside from the Re-Estize Kingdom. Once the war broke out in the capital, I didn't want those slaves to be in the way, and so I tasked her to do this for us.
Mariel did splendidly... according to her, she was a Seraph, one of the most powerful angels. She showcased her power splendidly. So far, Zariel and the Starlight Angels were tasked only to assist in moving the slaves from their seclusion and into the Moonlight mist. It was because Ray didn't want his people to 'stain their hands in foreign blood', but with this mission, Mariel had no problem getting her hands stained... and that's when we came to know the real power of the Starlight Angels.
She alone could handle an entire army of several Orialchum-ranked soldiers and priests, together with dozens of Mithrill Guards. Soon, Lady Haku came to fetch the slaves.
We faced major resistance on all fronts of this plan. But their resistance was inconsequential compared to our strength. Perhaps we didn't even need these many numbers to begin with, but I wouldn't allow myself to underestimate the man who violated my mother and murdered my father.
This is the third week of our offensive, things are looking well for us. Most noble families in the capital are dispersed, and insurgent groups have formed within native elf tribes to assist the Starlight Elf movement, and they're proactively pushing out a narrative where the Sun God is going to lead his hero, me, to take over the throne of Yggdrasil and end the Elves' injustice.
Just as Alana and I planned.
However, in the midst of all this... something happened. We received a contact from Merluna, whose offensive had started at the northwestern side of the Kingdom.
'Anna, the undead army of the Undead King is approaching!'.
That was when I looked at Alana, and we nodded to one another. It was time to give the last strike to Decem Hougan, because our enemies in the western region of the continent couldn't wait anymore.
"It is time to make an appearance, Alana. We're going to the capital".
