Chapter 303: There seems to be a bug here.
"You have 5 minutes."
A man with golden hair spoke with a solemn look on his face.
Seeing the unknown face and surroundings, Kael instantly realized what was happening.
It was another one of his Visions. Just as he expected, he was seeing one the moment he broke through.
For now, however, Kael stopped thinking about everything and looked around. He didn't have a lot of time; he needed to understand what was happening.
Firstly, the place they were in, it seemed like a sort of battlefield. There were thousands of dead humans, some parts of the battlefield were burnt to a crisp, some were frozen, there were places with uneven earth, while others had huge craters.
There was death and destruction everywhere, blood flowed like a river, but to Kael, all this didn't matter. His eyes were on the Dragons lying on the ground, lifeless.
He realized it in an instant, they were his children.
Around those Dragons stood more humans. Humans wearing all sorts of clothes, completely different from each other.
There were tens of thousands of them. It was clear that these bastards had surrounded his children and hunted them. The sight churned his insides; his eyes burned with rage so strong that he wanted to burn every single one of these bastards alive, but for now, he focused on what's important.
He also didn't fail to notice a huge portal behind the blonde. It seemed quite important.
After this, Kael sensed his own emotions. The current Kael was desperate; he wanted these people to believe him. The blonde seemed to be the leader of the group and the current Kael was trying to convince him.
Another thing to note was that current Kael's movements were restricted. Kael could also see a hand coming out of his abdomen. A surprising part was that there was no blood on it, almost as if it had phased through him.
"Alari—"
Another man who stood beside the blonde tried to call out. Clearly, he had no intention of letting Kael speak, but before he could say anything more, the blonde raised his hand.
"This is too big of a decision. If what he says is true, then we might be making a big mistake here, and I do not wish to bear a responsibility that heavy."
The blonde then glanced at Kael and—
"I will give him one last chance to prove himself."
Kael could sense the current Kael's emotions when he heard those words.
Hope.
He sensed a flicker of hope.
The Future Kael prepared himself and then, he stared at the large portal beside the blonde.
"The Gate you are about to destroy is the Final Portal that connects us to the last world, Nerathis, the strongest remaining lesser world."
The Future Kael began, and his first words were more than enough to surprise Kael.
Strongest… lesser world?
What…?
Were they not all in Nerathis right now?
What in the hell was happening…?
"Our Creston is much more than what we believe it to be."
'What…? Creston…?'
Once again, Kael blinked. Creston was the name of the world he was originally from.
Why was it being mentioned here…?
"Twelve years ago, when all of this started, there was no Mana. We couldn't imagine there would be a time when we would have these powers and be forced to face monsters that want nothing but destruction.
Back then, we were all just… normal humans.
But Creston sensed a foreign threat coming close to us. It understood that we had no way to protect ourselves from it. You saw it yourself—guns, tanks, drones—nothing worked on these things, and nuclear was too destructive to be used again and again.
Creston knew this as well. So, to protect itself and avoid its destruction, it sent us humans to the lesser worlds it was connected to."
'Huh?'
Kael's expression changed. In an instant, he remembered the day that circle appeared beneath his feet and he was teleported.
'Does that…'
As if answering his question, the Future Kael continued,
"Yes, that day, the worlds we were all teleported to weren't just some random other worlds. They were all lesser worlds connected to Creston.
We were sent to those worlds so that we could get stronger, return with the powers we earned, and then protect Creston from the incoming threat.
It was Creston's natural system to protect itself and its people.
We, the Hunters, who were sent to lesser worlds as Heroes, were supposed to fight the entities that come out of these Gates. This was the threat Creston had prepared us to deal with."
Again, Kael couldn't believe what he was hearing.
He was more surprised than the blonde and his party. And since he could sense the Future Kael's emotions, he knew all this was true.
'So… I am currently being prepared to… protect my own world?
Saving Nerathis isn't the end…?'
Kael blinked.
The Future Kael, however, wasn't done yet.
"However, instead of doing what you were supposed to do and fight the monsters coming from the Gates, you started destroying the Gates instead."
The Future Kael shouted, but honestly—
'That's genius, not going to lie.'
Kael was on their side.
To think they would directly destroy the Gates. That's so fucking efficient. Kael was actually impressed.
But then—
"While it may look like a good move, since we are dealing with the threat without any casualties on our side, if you understand how everything works, you would realize how foolish this is.
The connection between Creston and all the lesser worlds I mentioned before—think of these connections as roadways.
Those monsters use these roadways to get to Creston.
What do you think would happen if we deny the monsters entry to Creston by destroying these Gates?
They would move to the other side of the road.
They would move to the lesser worlds connected to Creston.
This is what we have been doing so far—by destroying the Gates, we are redirecting the entities we were supposed to face to the lesser worlds we got our strengths from.
We are destroying those worlds that helped us grow into who we are.
No, we have already destroyed almost all those worlds."
The Future Kael then glanced at the other people around and continued,
"You can feel it, can you not?
None of you are able to sense the connection to your world anymore, can you?
It didn't happen because you have reached the limit of your potential.
It is because your world was attacked by the entities you sent there and has been destroyed."
"What…?"
Alaric narrowed his eyes. It wasn't just him—others around him had the same expression. Even Kael was the same.
They were… destroying the lesser worlds…?
No wait, Kael had more questions.
What lesser worlds?
The fuck was happening?
Why the sudden jump in lore?
Did he mistakenly take a few steps further??
Hello??
