Dragon Ball Human

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Improvement and the Watch

Jioran helplessly said, "Even if you want to learn, I don't know how to teach you. Even in our enforcement squad, flying and the ability to release energy waves aren't essential qualities. If you want to fly or use energy attacks, there's equipment that can help with that. There's no need to force yourself to learn something you don't have the ability for. We generally only care about the combat ability of our team members."

"But even if it's instinctive... there should be a way to trigger it, right?"

"I don't know about that. Generally, it's better if it happens naturally. There's no need to force things like triggering abilities."

"...But, if you don't understand Ki, wouldn't your combat abilities be very limited?"

"I don't know, but after tough training and life-and-death battles, there will always be noticeable progress!"

"That's probably because if you don't improve, you either don't make it into the team, or you die on the mission..." Yamiru silently complained. He was becoming increasingly disillusioned with the growth path of these aliens. He had started to get the sense that in the Dragon Ball world, it seemed like most aliens power growth was all about being blessed by the genetic lottery. Energy improvements mostly came from natural physical development, and techniques related to ki—like flight or energy wave attacks—relied on instinctive awakening... It was too unreliable! This was basically fate decided at birth.

However, maybe that's exactly why the Saiyans, who get stronger the more they fight and experience near-death situations, are hailed as the "warrior race"!

Because other races growth potential is limited(unlike the Saiyans), aren't they the true "warrior race"?

Thinking about it this way, Earthlings could probably call themselves the "Supreme Warrior Race!" Yamiru thought to himself mischievously. His biases were probably shaping his thinking, but of course, he preferred to glorify the race he belonged to... Perhaps hidden in this thought was also the idea, "Since Earthlings are actually quite strong, I should be strong too."

Yamiru finally thought, "But even if I can't learn ki from Jioran, being able to learn combat skills and experience is already very fortunate! It's only been one day of grueling training, and I'm already confident I'm much stronger than I was the day before. But this isn't an improvement in physical 'combat power,' it's just an improvement in battle techniques..."

Before long, Bulma had returned with her gun.

Jioran led her to an open area—speaking of which, her house really had a lot of open spaces and gardens! Yamiru followed behind, secretly wondering, "It's lucky that someone like Bulma is a genius; if someone with average intelligence were born here, they'd probably get lost after walking a few steps in this maze-like house." Looking at the purple-haired girl with pigtails in front of him, he couldn't help but speculate, "I heard she has an older sister who ran away. Maybe she couldn't stand the maze-like house..."

Boom!

Boom!

Two consecutive loud explosions and a flash of light suddenly snapped Yamiru out of his thoughts.

He looked ahead to see two deep, long craters in the open ground where Bulma and Jioran had been. Smoke was still rising from them.

"It seems like yours is stronger!" Bulma put away her light wave gun. "I'll improve next time."

Jioran, speechless, turned his neck stiffly to look back at Yamiru, silently asking, "Is she really from Earth?"

"No, she's the Saiyan queen!" Yamiru thought in exasperation and nodded.

"We're almost done eating, let's continue training." Since they were in an open area, Yamiru motioned for Jioran to put away his gun. "You don't have much time left on Earth, I need to make the most of it."

Jioran didn't mind that, but he asked Bulma, "When will the Golde arrive?" His tone had shifted, no longer treating Bulma like a little girl but as someone with the intelligence to have an equal conversation—just like Yamiru. Yamiru had never acted like a child from the start.

"I'm not sure." Bulma, seeing that they were about to fight again, quickly jogged to the side with her light wave gun. "Maybe this evening."

"Then we can't waste any time!" Jioran responded.

"Exactly."

Yamiru and Jioran clashed again… Of course, Jioran was mostly holding back, gently sparring with Yamiru. Due to their huge difference in size, their movements looked rather uncoordinated… Fortunately, Jioran had rich battle experience, and Yamiru's excellent jumping ability helped make up for it.

"Hmm..." Bulma observed for a while, rubbing her chin as a thought crossed her mind.

In the evening, at dusk.

Under the blood-red setting sun, two figures—one large, one small—continued to spar on the grass, with the sound of dull impacts echoing through the air.

The smaller figure was clearly exhausted. Each time hr threw a punch, it took a long time to gather strength, and when he did throw it, it was much slower than before; even when he jumped with all their might, he could no longer reach Jioran's head... They needed to crouch or kneel to engage smoothly.

Jioran wasn't tired at all, but seeing the Earthling boy in front of him, who was probably on the verge of exhaustion, still stubbornly throwing punches, he began to admire the boy's determination.

"I can't believe he has this much willpower!" Jioran thought to himself, casually blocking Yamiru's kick with his palm. Yamiru's leg felt like a slightly thicker, heated iron rod in his hand. "The force has weakened considerably, but his fighting spirit... is much fiercer than before. His will to fight is finally being forged."

"Huff... huff..." Yamiru's body was completely drained, and his fiery, sharp eyes were about to lose their intensity. Gritting his teeth, he threw a punch, but internally he was shouting, "Doesn't this guy know how to call it quits? It'd be too embarrassing if I had to call it off myself!"

Vroom vroom vroom... A buzzing sound came from above their heads. Looking up, they saw a drone flying closer, quickly landing on the nearby grass.

"Oh, it's your Golde." Dr. Brief appeared nearby out of nowhere, as usual, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. "Looks like you'll be heading back soon."

The drone's hatch opened, revealing a blinding pile of gold.

Yamiru had never seen so much gold in his two lifetimes combined. Jioran beside him, however, didn't seem to react much… Yamiru guessed that for him, the sight of gold might be as exciting as seeing a pile of gasoline.

Seeing that his wish to return home was within reach, Jioran thanked Dr. Brief again.

"No need for thanks…" Dr. Brief chuckled, taking another puff of his cigarette. "But, could you really not let me see the flying device you use? I'm quite curious how you turn gold into fuel..." Just as Jioran was about to politely refuse, Dr. Brief continued, "I've been inspired and come up with five or six different ways to convert gold into fuel. I wonder which method your technology uses… Can't you at least let me compare it?"

The curiosity of a scientist! Yamiru didn't have much of an opinion.

Jioran, however, felt a bead of cold sweat trickle down his face. Just hearing that gold could be used as fuel and coming up with conversion methods on his own? And five or six methods? Now, he was seriously starting to consider that Dr. Brief and his daughter might not be Earthlings after all… Just then, Bulma approached from behind Dr. Brief, holding a watch in her hands, larger than her fist, and skipping over excitedly.

"Here you go." She walked over to Jioran, holding up the watch with a smile, her head tilted backward, almost parallel to the ground.

Yamiru wiped his sweat and felt like the watch looked familiar...

Jioran squatted down and took the watch, asking, "What's this?"

Bulma simply said, "I saw that you two were having trouble fighting because of the size difference, so I invented this... You put it on, and you'll know what it does."

Could it be...? Yamiru's mind clicked.
