As they entered the Douluo Hall, it felt as though they had stepped into another dimension, one steeped in an aura of solemnity.
The hall itself was devoid of ornate decorations, constructed entirely from simple, ancient stone. However, upon closer inspection, one could notice a faint golden light emanating from these otherwise unremarkable stones. When touched, they radiated a peculiar energy that seemed to ripple through one's palm.
Apart from the entrance, the other three walls of the Douluo Hall were lined with gleaming golden plaques. Each plaque measured half a meter in height and a foot in width, with only three or four large characters inscribed on them: *Douluo*.
At the very center of the hall stood a towering ten-meter-tall statue, resplendent in radiant gold. The figure had three pairs of wings unfurled gracefully behind it and held a massive golden sword pointing toward the heavens. Most strikingly, a faint golden flame appeared to swirl around the blade, exuding a divine aura.
Under normal circumstances, only Titled Douluo-level experts were permitted to enter the Douluo Hall. Those below the Titled Douluo rank could only revere it from afar. However, Qian Renhan and Qian Renxue were exceptions. The Douluo Hall served as the sacred temple of the Angel God, and the two were direct descendants of this divine lineage.
At the moment, the Douluo Hall was utterly silent. Aside from Qian Daoliu, who stood beneath the Angel God statue, no one else was present.
"Grandpa!"
Qian Renxue let go of Qian Renhan's arm and ran toward Qian Daoliu with a wide grin, her arms spread open in excitement.
"Xiaoxue." Qian Daoliu crouched down, scooping her up into his arms. He gently ruffled the back of her head, his face full of affection.
"Grandpa."
In contrast to Qian Renxue's enthusiasm, Qian Renhan greeted his grandfather in a much calmer manner. His tone was indifferent, resembling an adult addressing an elderly relative. Qian Daoliu was long accustomed to this demeanor and didn't seem surprised.
However, as his gaze fell on the faint tear stains at the corner of Qian Renxue's eyes, Qian Daoliu's expression darkened with anger. "Who dared to make my granddaughter cry? Who has the audacity to upset her? Was it you, you little rascal?"
His piercing eyes locked onto Qian Renhan.
Qian Renhan remained calm, meeting his grandfather's gaze without flinching. Inwardly, he almost wished Qian Daoliu would tell him to leave. It wasn't just that he disliked attending lessons; ever since stepping into the Douluo Hall, he'd been plagued by an inexplicable sense of discomfort, as if he were a mouse cornered by a cat. He simply didn't want to be there.
"Grandpa, it's not Brother's fault," Qian Renxue said in her soft, childish voice, hugging Qian Daoliu's neck. "Some sand got into my eyes, and Brother even helped me blow it away."
Qian Renhan sighed inwardly at his sister's naivety. While he was glad she'd covered for him, he couldn't help but feel helpless. The three of them were clearly on entirely different wavelengths, leaving him perpetually exasperated.
Moments later, Qian Daoliu took Qian Renxue's hand and began leading her forward. Qian Renxue turned back, stretching her delicate, fair hand toward Qian Renhan. Seeing her expectant expression turn to disappointment, Qian Renhan reluctantly reached out and took her hand.
"Xiaoxue, Xiaohan," Qian Daoliu began, his voice filled with pride as his expression turned solemn. "Do you know why our family's Six-Winged Angel is hailed as the continent's greatest divine spirit?"
Qian Renxue eagerly responded, "Grandpa Jin Crocodile said it's because the Six-Winged Angel is a god-bestowed spirit!"
Qian Daoliu nodded slightly. "That's correct. Our family's ancestor achieved godhood at the pinnacle of rank one hundred. The reason our family has endured for generations is because we thrive under the blessings of our divine forebear's light."
Qian Renhan suddenly spoke, "Then why have I never seen our ancestor? Grandpa, aside from today, you've never even mentioned her before."
Qian Daoliu glanced at Qian Renhan in slight surprise. His grandson rarely interacted with him, and when he did speak, his words were sparse and to the point. Most of his days were spent on eating, sleeping, and learning to read. After a moment, Qian Daoliu replied, "I hadn't planned on telling you this so early. The world knows that the pinnacle for spirit masters is the rank 99 Ultimate Douluo. However, our ancestor transcended rank 99 and achieved the divine rank of 100. A god like her has long since broken free from the confines of the human world and left the Douluo Continent to reside in another realm."
"Wow! Grandpa, which world did our ancestor go to?" Qian Renxue's eyes sparkled with admiration.
Qian Daoliu smiled warmly. "To the realm where gods naturally belong. Someday, one of you might have the chance to follow her to that very place."
He paused and turned to face both children. "Xiaoxue, Xiaohan, under the blessing of our divine ancestor's radiance, the Qian family has flourished into the mighty organization that is Spirit Hall. Because of her, our family has always adhered to the principles of the Angel God."
Qian Daoliu raised a hand, and a divine light filled the Douluo Hall. Behind the statue of the Angel God, a section of the wall without any plaques began to glow with brilliant golden light. Words illuminated the wall: *'With the blade in hand, judge the eight realms, guard the continent, eradicate evil.'* Sixteen large characters shimmered before vanishing as Qian Daoliu lowered his hand, and the wall returned to its original form.
"This is the mission of every member of the Angel Clan," Qian Daoliu stated.
Qian Renxue nodded earnestly, committing the sixteen characters to memory. Qian Renhan, on the other hand, immediately dismissed them from his mind.
Qian Daoliu's expression turned somber, his tone sharp as he continued, "Your outward actions reflect your heart. Even though we possess the most radiant of spirits, the Six-Winged Angel, it does not mean all our deeds are pure or that we are the embodiment of justice." His sharp gaze drifted briefly toward the direction of the Supreme Pontiff's Hall.
His voice deepened with authority. "To ensure we act in accordance with the principles of the Angel God and preserve the sanctity of her light, you must remember what I'm about to tell you."
Faced with his grandfather's unrelenting seriousness, even Qian Renhan, though reluctant, had no choice but to nod.
"Our family members must possess a spirit of humility," Qian Daoliu began. "This means treating those deserving of respect—elders and predecessors who have made great contributions—with modesty and reverence."
He continued, "You must also uphold integrity. We do not engage in deceit or treachery. All competition must be fair and honorable. Resorting to underhanded tactics is forbidden."
Hearing this, Qian Renhan's mouth twitched slightly.
Qian Daoliu pressed on. "Compassion. Courage. Honesty. Sacrifice. Honor. And most importantly, the spirit of the soul. These are the virtues every member of the Angel Clan must hold close to their hearts. While I cannot claim to have followed these eight virtues perfectly, I can proudly say that I have not tarnished the brilliance of our divine ancestor nor disgraced the identity of the Angel Clan's successors."
Qian Renhan's thoughts, however, were anything but reverent. If the heavens could bring me to this world, can they not grant me the power of a rank 100 god right now? I'd love to beat this old man senseless.
Unlike Qian Renxue, who listened intently with bright eyes, Qian Renhan grew increasingly irritated. Now he finally understood why both Qian Renxue and Qian Xunji were so obstinate and foolish. Clearly, the upper generation was leading them astray.
This is the world of Douluo, Qian Renhan thought bitterly. A world of mysticism and survival of the fittest. Strength rules all. As long as you can grow stronger and stay alive, spirit masters will use any means necessary. But what is this nonsense about knightly virtues? Not only would such ideals cause you to suffer in Douluo, but even on Earth, they'd leave you as nothing more than a naive, powerless fool. Even with a degree from a top university, you'd still be chewed up and spat out by society.
