Chapter 35: A Moment of Peace
Seeing her smile, Wu Lan stared in a daze. He quickly came back to his senses and asked with concern,
"Are you okay now?"
"The loss of bloodline is almost healed, and I'm feeling much better,"
she replied with a small smile, then stretched out her hand, the drop of her bloodline glowing softly in her palm.
"Absorb this. If it fuses with you without conflict, it means your bloodline is real."
Looking at her, and at the precious drop in her hand, Wu Lan was confused.
For a dragon, the bloodline was everything. Yet she was offering him hers freely. Even though she was seriously injured, she had still extracted part of her own.
"Why?" he asked softly.
Gu Yuena looked at his confused expression and stated her intention clearly.
"I want you to be my ally."
Her tone was calm and steady, but her words hung in the air like a solemn vow.
"I'm tired, Wu Lan," she continued, her gaze falling.
"Tired of being alone. Of carrying everything on my own."
The vast white dimension around them fell into utter silence.
The divine aura that once filled the space was gone.
She wasn't the Silver Dragon King in that moment.
She was just… Gu Yuena.
A woman who had lived far too long.
A soul that had once been part of something greater now left to shoulder the burdens of gods, beasts, and fate, all alone.
"I watched everything fall apart," she whispered. "The betrayal of the gods. The fall of the Dragon God. The despair of soul beasts… generation after generation. I watched the rise of humanity, led by the very gods who shattered our world."
A bitter laugh escaped her, trembling slightly.
"Even now… my own people don't see me. They see hope. Salvation. A symbol."
She lifted her head again those ancient violet eyes, eyes that had witnessed the passing of eons, locked with his.
"But you… you didn't bow to me. You did not fear me. You scolded me. You healed me not to gain power, but because you didn't want to see me hurt. You made me feel…"
She paused, searching for the right word.
"Real."
"I don't want someone who sees me as a weapon. Or a god. Or a leader."
She took a breath.
"I want someone who sees me as... Gu Yuena."
Wu Lan's chest tightened.
In this moment, there were no gods. No bloodlines. No ancient destinies.
Just her.
And him.
A woman asking, not for devotion, not for power but simply to not be alone.
His eyes drifted back to the drop of blood in her hand.
It pulsed like a heartbeat.
Not a Gift of Power.
A Gift of Trust.
He looked at her, voice soft.
"Even if I'm not your other half… will you still accept me?"
Gu Yuena didn't hesitate.
"I will."
Her voice was quiet but unwavering.
"Whether you awaken your memories or not… whether you're the Golden Dragon King or just a boy named Wu Lan."
She smiled faintly again.
"I don't care," she whispered. "I just want you… as you are."
Wu Lan closed his eyes briefly.
When he opened them, he reached out.
The moment his hand neared the drop, the Golden Dragon blood inside him surged.
The silver dragon blood pulsed in response.
The drop flew into his chest, fusing with his body.
Golden and silver auras clashed then intertwined.
Two dragon roars echoed inside him.
Not in battle but in unity.
The two ancient bloodlines met within him.
There was no rejection.
No struggle for dominance.
Only balance.
He could feel it.
They were helping each other grow.
Gu Yuena, watching closely, felt a rush of relief and joy. Her bloodline had fused with Wu Lan's Golden Dragon bloodline without conflict.
This meant only one thing
They were meant for each other.
Wu Lan looked at her, gratitude shining in his eyes.
"...Thank you," he said.
He promised himself that one day, he would repay her.
Gu Yuena shook her head gently. "You don't need to thank me."
There was a pause. Then she added, her voice softer,
"I'm just… glad it didn't reject you."
Wu Lan chuckled lightly.
"Guess that means we're compatible."
She smiled.
"Seems so."
After a short pause, Gu Yuena stepped closer.
"Wu Lan… tell me about yourself."
He blinked, slightly caught off guard by the shift in tone.
But she just stood there expectant, curious, patient.
So, he began to speak.
About Xiao Wu. Their travels. Their mischief.
About Yu Xiaogang's so-called 'theories'. The ridiculous schemes with the pawn shop. The chaos he caused for Tang San and his Teacher.
Gu Yuena listened intently.
Her lips curled into a soft smile as she heard about Wu Lan's playful wit and subtle tricks.
She laughed aloud when he mimicked Xiao Wu pouting.
She shook her head in disbelief when he described the pawn shop disguise.
"You actually made Tang San willingly pay to buy back his Teacher's token? That's… insane."
He smirked. "I was doing him a favor, really."
She covered her mouth, but the laughter still escaped.
And for the first time in tens of thousands of years
Gu Yuena laughed.
Not with pain.
Not with bitterness.
Just laughed.
The silver-haired dragon who once shook the world now stood beside a village boy, walking through an endless white dimension, talking about foolish tricks and ridiculous debts.
No war.
No betrayal.
Just… quiet company.
Wu Lan's voice was calm, steady. Each word felt like a warm breeze brushing away the frost that had long frozen her soul.
They strolled beside the lake's edge in silence, but her heart was loud with emotion.
She wished
The moment would never end.
