Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Permanent Lose of some functions
In the East Sea Academy medical room, Tang Wulin was unconscious from pain, his face pale and sweating. Wu Zhangkong and the members of Class Zero anxiously waited outside.
Their expressions were grim, with a faint hint of hostility towards Gu Yue since Xia Yi had been brought by her. The worry in their eyes deepened as they awaited any news.
Finally, the doctor emerged from the room.
"Doctor, is there any danger to Wulin?" Wu Zhangkong asked immediately.
"There's no life-threatening danger, but he'll need some time to recover before being discharged. It's clear the person who attacked him showed mercy. He didn't harm his life, but there might be some aftereffects," the doctor said, removing his mask. Though Tang Wulin was fine, his complexion was still not good.
"Aftereffects? What kind of aftereffects?" Wuchang Kong asked solemnly.
The doctor took a deep breath before responding, "Can you first tell me who did this to him?"
"What does that have to do with the aftereffects?" Gu Yue interrupted, her voice sharp.
"The attacker is clearly someone experienced. While the student's eyes and throat suffered heavy injuries, they're not fatal. With some hospital care, he'll recover. However, there is a significant issue with his lower body, one that can't be healed. Even if it recovers, there's a high chance he will permanently lose certain functions," the doctor said grimly, glancing at Tang Wulin's unconscious form with a heavy sigh. "I'm curious to know what kind of person would do this to a child."
"Permanent loss of certain functions? What does that mean?" Gu Yue's face drained of color as her voice became frantic.
The doctor shook his head, not willing to explain further. Such matters were difficult to explain to a child of their age. As for Wu Zhangkong, he should understand without further explanation.
"Doctor, is there really no way to fix it?" Wu Zhangkong's usually cold expression turned even more menacing, and his fists clenched involuntarily.
"I have done everything I can," the doctor said helplessly, shaking his head. "There's nothing more I can do."
Just as Wu Zhangkong was about to speak again, a sudden sharp scream rang out. "If your abilities are so limited, what kind of doctor are you? You can't even treat a small injury—aren't you just harming people?"
Gu Yue, clearly agitated, snapped. While Xie Xie and Xu Xiaoyan might not have fully understood what the doctor meant by permanent loss of functions, Gu Yue, being older, understood the gravity of the situation all too well.
"What did you say?" The doctor's face immediately darkened, and his anger flared. If it weren't for him, Tang Wulin might have suffered permanent damage to his eyes and throat as well. His good intentions were being called useless, which understandably made him angry.
"Sorry, doctor. These kids are just very close to Wulin. Gu Yue was speaking without thinking because she's so worried about him. Please don't take it personally. If there's any way to help Wulin, we're willing to pay any price," Wu Zhangkong quickly apologized. Despite his usual pride, he was willing to humble himself for the sake of Tang Wulin's future happiness.
He had always considered Tang Wulin as his own, and if anything happened to him, he wouldn't have the chance to regret it.
"I've done all I can. If you want to save him, you'll need a Soul Douluo from the healing department, maybe even a Title Douluo if you're lucky," the doctor said with a cold hum, giving Gu Yue a sharp look. He then turned his gaze to Tang Wulin, still unsure whether he could bear to leave the child in such a state. "In his condition, if you can get a healing Soul Douluo, there's still a slim chance. A Title Douluo would be even better."
The doctor shook his head helplessly. While there were indeed many Soul Douluos and even some Title Douluos in the world, those with healing abilities were few and far between.
Moreover, someone of that caliber wouldn't be hanging around a small place like East Sea City.
Even if such a person happened to be in East Sea City, it would be far beyond the means of East Sea Academy to hire them.
"A Title Douluo?" Gu Yue's eyes suddenly lit up, and the anger on her face vanished. While she didn't know any healing Title Douluos, she did know of a fierce beast who was as strong as a Limit Douluo.
"What, do you know a healing Title Douluo?" Wu Zhangkong asked, his brow furrowed. He was considering whether he should take Tang Wulin to Shrek Academy when he saw that Gu Yue had relaxed.
"I know that a healing Title Douluo from the Spirit Pagoda is currently patrolling East Sea City," Gu Yue said quickly. There was no mistake in her words, as Bi Ji had once worked for the Spirit Pagoda before being forced to leave due to the organization's corruption.
"A powerful figure from the Spirit Pagoda? Would she really help?" Wu Zhangkong asked with a furrowed brow. A Title Douluo, especially one from the Spirit Transmission Tower, wasn't likely to come help a child she had never met.
"Don't worry. She will help," Gu Yue said firmly, explaining, "She and my teacher from the Spirit Pagoda were very close friends."
"Then what are we waiting for? Call her now!" Xie Xie urged from the side.
"Alright, I'll contact her right away," Gu Yue nodded, ready to make the call.
Just as Gu Yue took out her soul communicator, it suddenly rang. To her surprise, it was an incoming call from Di Tian.
Feeling a mix of joy and apprehension, Gu Yue quickly ran to the side. However, before she could speak, Di Tian's voice came through, "Master, we've been attacked by a powerful figure from the Spirit Pagoda. Bi Ji has suffered unprecedented injuries and cannot use her soul power for the time being. If she does, it could be life-threatening."
"What happened? Are you all alright?" Gu Yue asked, her voice tight with concern.
"Don't worry, Master. We're safe for now. I'm calling you not to worry you, but to let you know that Bi Ji is in critical condition. During her recovery, please make sure to protect yourself," Di Tian said solemnly.
"I'm coming to you right away!" Gu Yue said, her face darkening as she hung up the communication. Wu Zhangkong, along with Xie Xie and Xu Xiaoyan, approached her quickly.
"What's going on?" Wu Zhangkong asked, his expression tense.
"The Title Douluo I mentioned is tied up with something else temporarily. But don't worry, I'll still get her here," Gu Yue said without hesitation. Turning away, she headed for the gate of East Sea Academy.
Gu Yue had been studying at East Sea Academy, and in order to protect her, Di Tian had bought a small house in East Sea City, just in case.
As Gu Yue entered the small house, she immediately spotted Xia Yi leisurely lounging on a rocking chair. She paid him no attention and rushed into the house. Inside, she found Bi Ji lying in bed, looking deathly pale, with no color in her face.
"Master!" Bi Ji struggled to sit up upon seeing Gu Yue, but she was clearly in extreme pain. A slight movement caused her long green hair to shift between her feathered hair and her human form, showing that she couldn't even maintain her human shape.
"Don't worry about formalities in this condition," Gu Yue said, gently helping Bi Ji back down onto the bed. She then turned to Di Tian, her voice cold as she demanded, "What happened? Why is Bi Ji in such a state?"
"Master, don't worry. Bi Ji will be fine. She just needs to rest for a while," Di Tian hurriedly responded.
"I asked you what happened," Gu Yue's voice was filled with anger.
"In order to protect you, Bi Ji and I were too close to you and got discovered by a powerful figure from the Spirit Pagoda. We were ambushed by multiple four-word battle armor users," Di Tian explained, his tone filled with frustration.
Gu Yue took a deep breath and suppressed her anger. She asked in a low voice, "Is Bi Ji really unable to use her soul power for now?"
At her question, all the fierce beasts present lowered their heads in unison.
Before, they hadn't believed Xia Yi's words, but now they couldn't deny the truth. Bi Ji was severely injured, and yet Gu Yue was still considering sending her to help Tang Wulin.
Di Tian took a deep breath, his teeth clenched as he said, "We barely managed to stabilize Bi Ji's injuries. If she tries to use her soul power now, she could be in even greater danger."
