Douluo Dalu 2: Sun-Moon Glory

Chapter 159: Chapter 157: Senior Meng in a Swimsuit

Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen soared through the sky hand in hand, enjoying the quiet romance of flight as the wind gently caressed their faces.

Of course, at their speed, the "breeze" was anything but calm. However, thanks to the exceptional design of their bionic Sun Falcon wings, the oncoming gusts were guided into smooth, soft airflow, allowing the two of them to enjoy a surprisingly serene ride.

When Jing Hongchen first heard about their trip, his initial reaction was to assign a squad of guards to accompany them. After all, one was his precious granddaughter and the other his beloved disciple. The very idea of either of them getting even slightly hurt was enough to make his heart ache. If anything serious were to happen, he might as well be dead.

But after a moment of reflection, he reconsidered. Protecting them like this wasn't sustainable. There were things young people needed to experience for themselves, and old men like him shouldn't be overprotective. Besides, they weren't heading to the Douluo Federation—this was still the Sun Moon Empire. What real danger could there be? So Jing Hongchen simply reminded them to be careful and let them leave.

What reassured him most was that the Snow Empress was likely still secretly protecting Huo Yuhao. With a fierce beast of Ultimate Douluo level lurking nearby, watching over both Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen, what did he have to worry about?

They brought plenty of Level 7 and 8 sealed milk bottles to replenish energy. Each one cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of gold soul coins, but with Mingde Hall funded by the Hongchen family, money was no object. Bringing along a dozen or so was no big deal.

What's more, flying together actually enhanced their efficiency. The Falcon Wings complemented each other in flight, helping them conserve soul power even further.

In less than half a day, they reached their destination—Sunrise City, a southern coastal city of the Sun Moon Empire.

This city wasn't just a naval stronghold housing two 500-man Soul Engineer Legions and an elite Royal Navy force—it was also one of the empire's few seaside resort cities. Its dazzling golden beaches, as brilliant as the morning sun, attracted nobles from across the empire to vacation here. The abundance of fresh seafood only added to its appeal as a tourist destination.

They landed a kilometer outside the city walls. Neither of them dared get too close. The terrain around Sunrise City was flat and open, and the city's perimeter was densely fortified. One thousand soul engineers had set up a full defensive perimeter, their soul cannons arranged in rows like a metal forest. Huo Yuhao worried that if they got too close, the cannons might target them and fire. Even if the cannons weren't guided, it would still be a terrible way to start their trip—getting mistaken for invading enemies from the Douluo Federation.

And this wasn't even wartime. If it were, Sunrise City would be packed with all types of soul tool detection arrays—long-range, close-range thermal, mid-range anti-air, trigger-activated positioning, high-altitude monitors... They could probably track a fly from three kilometers away.

Huo Yuhao was extremely impressed with the city's tight security. This could very well be the place where his naval modernization project would begin.

Seeing Huo Yuhao dazed and lost in thought as he stared at the wall of soul cannons, Meng Hongchen teased him.

"Huo the Workaholic, are you already daydreaming about those military soul tools you and my brother are so obsessed with? Come on, let's go!"

Huo Yuhao jolted awake from his trance, scratching his head sheepishly. He took her hand and started walking toward the city gates.

Whatever came in the future, for now, this was supposed to be a seaside vacation. They were just here to relax—and maybe, along the way, look into some of the sea soul beasts that were said to frequent the area. Somehow, their primary and secondary objectives felt a little flipped...

At the city gates, they joined a long line of travelers. Most were merchants, hauling in or out goods. Several wagons overflowing with seafood and the pungent smell of the sea passed by as they waited.

They patiently stood in line like everyone else. While nobles often entered Sunrise City using fast-track lanes—riding in carriages emblazoned with their family crests—Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen decided to experience entry like ordinary travelers. That, after all, was part of the fun of sightseeing. Besides, the Hongchen family crest was too recognizable. If they rode in under that banner, it would certainly cause a stir. The city lord would come calling with invitations and formalities they'd rather avoid.

"Wow, Yuhao, look! That whole cart is full of octopus! And over there—so many clams! And fish too! Go snatch one and grill it. I bet sea fish tastes amazing!"

Seeing Meng Hongchen nearly drooling, Huo Yuhao sighed and gently patted her head.

"Alright. If you really want one, I'll catch you a fish at the beach and grill it myself."

"Yay!"

Soon, it was their turn to present their documents.

The soldier guarding the gate looked up, about to wave them through impatiently. But the moment he saw their elegant clothes—so different from the rough linen of commoners—and the precious rings and wristbands they wore, his expression changed. His eyes sharpened with focus, and his tone grew noticeably more respectful.

"Welcome, honored soul masters. May I see your entry permits?"

From his silver wristband—a Level 9 storage-type soul tool—Huo Yuhao drew out a golden badge marked with a special emblem and showed it to the soldier.

Upon seeing the badge, the soldier's pupils shrank. His breath caught in his throat. A gold-class permit from the Sun Moon Empire—one that waived all inspection requirements? And they'd queued like ordinary people?

Huo Yuhao gave him a meaningful glance, and the soldier instantly understood. These were probably nobles who just wanted to experience common life. He wouldn't dare ask for a bribe. Instead, he respectfully allowed them to enter without further questions, bowing as they passed.

"Welcome to Sunrise City."

Once inside, Meng Hongchen practically lit up. She grabbed Huo Yuhao and bolted southward at full speed, shouting excitedly.

"Ocean, here we come!"

Completely caught off guard, Huo Yuhao was dragged along like a ragdoll. He nearly forgot—she was a Soul King, and he was just a humble Soul Ancestor. Her pulling him along like this? Nothing unusual at all.

Standing on Sunrise City's famous Golden Sands Beach, Huo Yuhao bathed in the glow of the setting sun, casting its golden-red hues over the horizon. He looked at the figure before him—and swallowed hard.

"Well? Do I look good?"

Meng Hongchen curled a lock of hair with one hand, the other resting on her exposed white thigh. Shyness and confidence mingled in her expression and posture. The soft crimson glow of dusk made her figure even more enchanting.

In short—Meng Hongchen now stood barefoot on the beach, wearing a swimsuit.

Faced with this breathtaking scene, what could Huo Yuhao possibly say?

He simply nodded, again and again, silently awed by the beauty before him.
