DC Apostle in the Marvel Universe

Chapter 25: Chapter 25: The Farm

Watching the intense heat rays shooting from Russell's eyes, Dr. Wilson couldn't help but feel a strong urge to dissect him.

Of course, this was nothing more than a fantasy.

Russell was no longer the test subject he could manipulate at will. Their roles had clearly shifted.

Although neither of them had explicitly addressed this, Dr. Wilson knew from the moment they made their agreement that he would have to rely on Russell from now on.

Still, no matter what, Dr. Wilson couldn't help but be deeply curious about Russell's ability to emit such powerful heat rays from his eyes.

As a biologist, witnessing such a unique biological phenomenon right before his eyes was irresistible.

If he weren't intrigued, he wouldn't be a true scientist.

An insatiable curiosity about the unknown is a common trait among all scientists.

Seeing the almost transparent thoughts written on Dr. Wilson's face, Russell casually remarked, "If there's a chance in the future, I'll let you study my eyes."

With that, Russell was the first to leave the now-ruined control room.

...

Under the arrangement of Dr. Wilson's assistant, the people in the base were now clearly divided into two groups.

Those unwilling to leave with them were gathered in the base's main hall, while those willing to follow stood behind Russell and Dr. Wilson.

"Distribute the sedatives to them."

Under the watchful eyes of Russell and the others, those who refused to leave were given sedatives strong enough to keep them asleep for an entire day.

By the time they woke up, Russell and his group would already be far from the base.

Moreover, with the control room destroyed, even if they woke up, they wouldn't be able to contact headquarters immediately, giving Russell's team more time to escape.

When preparing the sedatives, Dr. Wilson had once suggested to Russell that he could make these people die painlessly in their sleep.

That is, to kill everyone and then blowing up the base.

That way, even if Hydra headquarters sent people over, they wouldn't be able to gather much useful information.

Russell knew that Dr. Wilson's approach would achieve the best concealment, but he couldn't accept it.

Hydra probably wouldn't last much longer anyway. After all, Iron Man had already survived the Mandarin, or more accurately, Dr. Killian.

So the final showdown between Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D., the events of the Helicarrier over Washington, D.C., couldn't be too far off.

Given this, Russell was even more reluctant to kill these people.

Even though he had crossed over and become a superhuman with the powers of the Abomination, the 'Dionesium Factor', and Superman's heat vision, Russell's core remained that of a well-educated young man raised under socialism, not a bloodthirsty butcher.

As the people in the base's main hall fell into a deep sleep from the sedatives, Russell and his team made their way to the base's hangar, boarding the prepared vehicles.

In addition to the five trucks transporting the experimental equipment, Russell's team also took every other vehicle in the hangar.

Every usable vehicle was driven away, but what caught Russell's attention the most were the two Quinjets in the hangar.

Russell didn't know why Hydra would station two Quinjets at a research base, but he wasn't concerned about that now. He was more than happy to take them.

Not only that, Russell also took the Humvees and helicopters in the hangar, leaving nothing behind.

Among the 21 soldiers who joined them, many had undergone flight training, so Russell had plenty of pilots to fly these aircraft.

In addition to the vehicles, Russell had all the weapons in the base packed up and taken away, including the Electroshock Explosive Collars that had been strapped to their necks earlier.

Five transport trucks, three armed Humvees, two Chevy SUVs, two Quinjets, and one Black Hawk helicopter.

Looking at this convoy that seemed ready for war, Russell couldn't help but worry about how they would evade Hydra's pursuit after leaving the base.

If the convoy passed through any city, it would undoubtedly attract the attention of local police.

Dr. Wilson seemed to sense Russell's concerns and walked over to reassure him, "Don't worry about that. You'll understand once we're out..."

Since the doctor had said so, Russell had no choice but to temporarily set aside his worries.

When the convoy drove out of the base's gates, Russell finally understood why Dr. Wilson had been so confident.

The base they were in had been built as an underground fortress, so when they left, Russell saw the sky of this world for the first time.

The weather was perfect, sunny and clear.

More importantly, as far as the eye could see, there were no man-made structures in sight.

Russell and his team were in a desolate wasteland, a place devoid of life. Not a single human or even a running animal could be seen.

"From here to New York, it would take about two days by car. If we take the Quinjet, it'll only take two hours." Said Wilson, then he pointed at a map, "Also, Jasper has arranged a farm for us here. We'll rest there before heading to New York."

Russell glanced at the map in Dr. Wilson's hands and saw the farm he mentioned.

The farm wasn't far from New York but was outside its jurisdiction, making it an ideal hiding spot for people like them.

"Alright, send the location to the drivers. We'll head there first."

Russell and his team weren't in the trucks but in the Quinjet.

With a Quinjet available, who would want to ride in a car?

After sending the farm's location to the convoy drivers, Russell and his team boarded the Quinjet and headed to the farm ahead of the others.

The two Quinjets and the Black Hawk helicopter went ahead to the farm, leaving the task of escorting the convoy to the three Humvees.

But in a place like this, it was unlikely anyone would dare to attack the convoy.

...

When Russell and his team arrived at the farm provided by Jasper, Russell became even more convinced that his decision to recruit Jasper was the right one.

Having such a professional on their side really did solve a lot of unexpected problems.

The farm looked completely ordinary from the outside, but once inside, Russell and the others discovered that it had been designed as a military fortress.

Outwardly, it appeared to be just a regular farm, but in reality, it was a small military base.

"Next time we see Jasper, remind me to give him a gift..."

With only Allen, Heather, and Dr. Wilson by his side, Russell didn't have to worry about leaking Jasper's identity.
