Chapter 20: Grey's past
"Get us the money, you old fart, or we'll drag you off!" a burly man roared. He stood in front of a house, shouting from the compound, and behind him were five men, each holding sticks in their hands and creepy smiles on their faces, as if waiting to carry out some evil.
"Come out already, or we will have to break into your home and beat you and your family!" the man roared.
Creak.
The door slowly opened, and a young woman helped an old man walk out. She was a stunning beauty, her eyes blue as the ocean, drawing in whoever looked at her. Her hair was a beautiful dark brown, and despite the cheap, worn-out clothes she wore, she couldn't hide the curves of her body.
The old man was hunched over, a head full of grey hair and skin that had begun wrinkling badly. He could walk, but he needed support.
"There you are, hahaha, and you even brought out your beautiful daughter as well. Maybe you could clear this debt by handing her over to us—we promise to take good care of her," the man said with a grin.
The young lady sneered at him, the disgust in her eyes heavy. The man looked at her and blew a kiss.
"Ronald… please, g-give me some time," the old man spoke.
The debt he had taken was to treat his youngest child five years ago, and it wasn't a small loan. Back then, it had seemed like a generous offer that would last for five years. He didn't know that Ronald's boss was a sly fox.
He didn't explain the details of the interest properly, and the man had signed it. When he realized, it was too late.
By the time the payback time came, the money he owed was five times what he had collected. And there was no way an old, struggling farmer like him would have that type of money to pay back.
"Give you some time? You bloody old man, we helped you save your daughter's life, and now you don't want to pay? How despicable can you be, old man?" Ronald said.
The young lady gritted her teeth when she heard the way they spoke to her father. She wanted to say something, but her father gripped her hand, signaling her to stop.
"Please, Ronald," he said. He removed his hands from his daughter's body, took a few steps forward by himself, and got on his knees, head down to the ground.
"Father, what are you doing?!" she yelled, trying to pull him up.
"No, let me, daughter. For these people helped us… w-we must show them that we are deeply sorry for not paying them back," he said.
She gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tighter. Her body trembled, but she held herself.
Ronald looked at the old man on the ground and then at the men behind him. "Hahaha, this man is on the ground for us, boys," he said.
Hahahaha hahahahaha.
They all burst into laughter. The lady clenched her fists even tighter—so much that her nails dug into her palms and blood dripped from them. Ronald saw this, and a very sinister smile formed on his face.
"I'll give you more time, old man, only if the girl also goes on her knees and begs like you," Ronald said.
Her eyes widened when she heard that. She clenched harder, bit into her lip harder, but said nothing.
"Please, not my daughter. She has nothing to do with this," the old man said, looking at Ronald and begging.
"That's the only way, old man," he said. The old man wanted to argue even more, but the lady went on her knees and placed her head on the ground. She placed her bleeding palms on the ground and spoke, "Please, give us more time," she said.
Her father looked at her, tears filled his eyes as he saw what he had brought on his daughter, making her kneel before a low-life savage. His heart ached. He planted his face into the ground, unable to look anymore.
Ronald frowned when he saw her. He thought she would refuse and it would turn into an issue, but now that she did what he asked, it pissed him off.
He walked up and suddenly kicked the man in the head, sending him to the ground. The lady was shocked to see that. She rushed to her father and held him. She looked at Ronald—rage burned in her eyes.
Ronald saw it and laughed. "Hahaha, what did you expect? For me to forgive a man that allows his daughter to cower and beg? That's pathetic," he said and walked closer. "Boys, take her away and let her watch as I deal with her father," Ronald said, and the men rushed at her.
She began screaming and struggling, but they pulled her and forced her to watch as Ronald lifted his foot, about to stomp the man.
But then, out of nowhere, a large branch came swinging. It slammed into the back of Ronald's head and sent him to the ground, blood spilling from his head.
And the culprit? Grey—a younger him—standing there, face full of rage, a branch in hand. The five men saw their boss on the ground and immediately rushed at Grey. He swung at them, but they managed to get to him after avoiding his branch. They ganged up on him and began beating him up—kicks and punches. In a few seconds, he was already bleeding.
The lady saw her brother on the ground. She tried to get up and help him, but Ronald got up and pulled Grey from the beating. He raised Grey off the ground, roared, then punched him.
"You fucking bastard," Ronald roared.
"Seems we have gotten our payment for your loan," Ronald roared and showed Grey to his father.
"Nooo, let go of him!" the lady yelled. But rather than cry in pain, Grey smiled and spoke.
"Big sis, don't. This is the best solution to make sure that you and father are safe.
You've both done a lot for me ever since you took me from the alley that night, and I am forever grateful for what you've done. This is my opportunity to pay you back for all that you did—my opportunity to be useful.
Let them take me. I'm stronger, and I'm sure I'll survive," Grey said.
"No, Grey, stop!" she screamed at him.
"No, sister, stop!" he yelled back. "This is an opportunity I have to pay you back and to make sure you and Dad are safe. Please, do not take this away from me," he said, eyes red, blood dripping from his mangled face.
His father and sister watched in horror. He looked at them with a smile. "Take care of little sister," he said.
"Enough talk," Ronald said and threw him at his men. "Take him. We'll tell the boss his father sold him. I'm tired of this family," Ronald said and started leaving while his men carried Grey.
"Greeeeeeyyyyy!" the lady yelled, screaming, but Grey simply looked at her with a smile and eyes filled with tears.

Grey's eyes flickered open back inside the arena.
