Chapter 67: Where strength lies
[probability completely extracted.]
[fire giant S rank -> B rank.]
Fuck, I thought it'd just disappear.
After the notifications went through, Hali and I didn't waste the precious seconds the recoil from the Records gave us. She activated her waterways and I started casting [Rain of abundance] without a second thought.
Water beats fire right?
Well, it wasn't that easy. Our enemy was still a B rank creature. Hali's waterways persisted, but those near to it were immediately destroyed, the same reaction was reserved for my rain that didn't even get to get near the beast before evaporating.
"This is bad. Odysseus, any ideas?"
But my hopes didn't last long, even Odysseus had never met a fire giant, let alone fought one. We were on our own.
"Let's just pour it all out."
That was the only comment Odysseus made. And that was what we were ready to do.
The fire giant was coming back to its senses when a barrage of attacks were sent its way. Hali released her Aura slashes making them rain on it, I didn't know how to release Aura yet, and seeing the effect my rain had, I decided to make use of my [fire lilies of destruction] albeit uselessly. My flowers didn't even get to touch the enemy before exploding from the enormous heat it was releasing.
Even Odysseus' wind blades and chained lightning seemed to be useless.
"Does this bastard have an anti-magic field or something?"
I was getting frustrated, all my spells were useless. The rain evaporated, the swamp didn't even manifest, my fire lilies were to weak to support the heat; only Hali's attacks connected, but they too lacked strength.
"What the fuck are we supposed to do?"
"Dimitris why the fuck aren't you projecting your aura! All that electricity for nothing!"
"I DON'T KNOW HOW!"
Everyone was looking at me dumbfounded, it almost felt as even the fire giant was snickering at me.
"I'm not a warrior Hali, I'm a mage! Fuck!"
"Throw your fucking spear then! That works!"
I felt like I was talking to a kid and couldn't find it in me to explain why I wasn't Throwing my ONLY spear.
The fire giant however seemed to have had enough of our bickering and decided to go on the offensive. It raised one of its arms and a barrage of fireballs were sent raining on us.
"FUCK!"
the three of us cursed at the same time. The bastard seemed to be immune to magic, but was able to use it? Of course it was fair and balanced.
I finally took out my spear once again and let my Archana run free. Lightning started to crackle as violently as ever reflecting my current state of mind.
If my spells are useless, what about yours?
I got ready to parry each and every fireball and send them back to the offender, but I had gravely miscalculated. As soon as my lightning Archana came in contact with the first fireball, like a chained reaction, each and every other missile exploded.
The recoil sent me flying and I wasn't able to calculate any blink in time.
My back hit a tree, completely shuttering it but also knocking the air out of my lungs.
Euck!
Blood started to flow out of my mouth, I had probably broken something and my sight was darkening.
I don't have time for this.
I squeezed every bit of focus I could and casted the illusory garden to heal me up with the least amount of Archana I could. The situation was already dangerous as it was, I couldn't risk running out of juice in the middle of the fight.
"Well, at least we know lightning aura works, somewhat."
Seeing my garden healing me, Hali and Odysseus focused back on the fire giant that was slowly approaching us.
"Fuck, Dimitris, we need you to throw your spear, I'll get you a new one!"
Odysseus was stressing out. I knew what I had to do, but I still wasn't sure it would have been enough.
"Odysseus, I will, but do you think you can manipulate the air around it?"
"Why?"
"I don't know, to lower the temperature? I'm not sure my bident can reach that monster."
"I can try, but no promises."
I then moved my eye towards Hali.
"Sardine, even if it useless, throw as much as fucking water as you can."
"I gotcha Gardener."
They both sprung into action, Hali was relentlessly throwing water at the giant, every jet met with fire, but she continued nonetheless. The evaporating water, instead of dissipating was actually under Odysseus' control, he started manipulating it, willing it to seep into the air near the giant to reduce the temperature as much as possible. I even released the Paragon, sure they would have been useless in the fight, but as long as they could distract the giant I was good.
However, something was strange. The Paragon was pulling on my mind, they wanted to go somewhere, but what they were feeling was not fear. It was hunger.
I looked around the direction the flutter was wishing to go and sure enough there she was.
Sarah was still alive, I guessed my garden had healed her previously, but soon enough, I felt a cold grip on my neck.
Danger?
Sarah was looking at Odysseus while he defended himself from the few fireballs coming his way with [chained lightning] from a safe distance. Her face completely deformed by madness and she brought her hands together.
I knew of her skill, I was lucky enough to have made an illusion before being trapped in it, but Odysseus was completely focused on other things.
Rationality was thrown out of my brain momentarily. I knew i could just teleport him away, the problem was madness had fought up to me as well. I blinked behind Odysseus, pulled him from his neck and threw him behind me just before a scream echoed in the clearing.
"DIEEEEEE, TIMEZONE!!!!"
My body froze, time stopped only upon me and I couldn't even hear the screamed of Odysseus.
All I knew was that one moment I was protecting Odysseus with my body and the next a thunderous explosion sent me flying.
A few of my bone broke immediately, I could feel it, however no burn marks manifested on my skin. I felt my second circle spinning at full speed. The salamander was claiming the heat.
I was jumping in and out of consciousness and could only hear my name screamed here and there. Until someone brought a vial to my mouth.
"Klaus you need to drink this."
Who?
"Klaus, it really is an healing potion, we got them from the last dungeon."
I tried opening my eyes only to meet with a worried Aaron looking at me. As soon as I realised who was holding the vial to my mouth i started gulping and sure enough a refreshing feeling was engulfing me.
Looking around to find my bearings I was met with a sight i didn't expect to see.
The fire giant was squirming.

-Odysseus' POV-
He threw himself away for me.
The fire giant was laughing at Dimitris who had been thrown away by the aftershock his Archana and the monsters spell created and i started to see red.
I turned around, searching for the voice that caused all of this and sure enough that disgusting bitch was laughing with all her might. He had saved her, only for her to try and kill him to the very end.
I'll kill her. I'll kill her right now.
My blood was raging. My Archana a tempest of hatred and i was ready to struck her down, if it wasn't for the stupid monster ready to continue this fight.
I needed to focus, but I couldn't bring myself from looking at that disgusting thing.
"Odysseus! Aaron will take care of Dimitris! Focus here!"
Hali was trying to get me back to my senses, but there was nothing else in my field of vision.
Only a bitch laughing after trying to kill the brother that saved her.
How can such a corrupted creature exist?
And my thoughts seemed to resonate with the world itself. The Paragon, now free from Dimitris command, but still summoned were raging.
They approached Sarah who immediately started to cast her skill on the flutter again, but it was useless.
The paragon can't harm nor be harmed, they only feed on corruption.
Sure enough, the harmless butterflies roamed around her and as soon as they thouched her, pained screeches erupted all around.
They fed on her, uncaring of the screamed and tears.
"CONSTELLATION SAVE ME! SEND THESE MONSTERS AWAY PLEASE!"
Ha! She has already made a contract, but it's useless.
Her pleas went unanswered until she screamed again:
"What do you mean curse my luck? You gave me this trait! Save me!"
Oh?
Seeing how she was suffering filled me with joy, her screams, music to my ears. I could now focus in the fire giant again.
Aaron was already all over Dimitris anyway.
"Hali. It needs to die."
"Stop saying useless shit and start killing this bastard! We need to torture that bitch later!"
Yes. The Paragon couldn't stay out forever if Dimitris was unconscious either way.
I started thinking back to what we had tried until now, except from Hali's aura nothing worked… well, I did lower the temperature around it before…
"Hali, have you ever talked with Dimitris about fire?"
"Are you drunk?"
"No."
Dimitris had always been very adamant about fire. He was sure it was misunderstood, only believed to be harbinger of destruction and I thought so as well.

It needs air. I can't cast a spell on the bastard but can i even create such a thing?
"Hali! I need some time! Cover me!"
"MOTHERFUCKER! NO MORE THEN A MINUTE, MY AURA IS AT IT'S LIMIT!"
My brain started to run simulations. I may have been at the 3rd circle now, but the experience of reaching the 9th circle and all the knowledge of runes didn't vanish. I just needed to create a spell suitable for a 3rd circle of wind.
I needed to create a spell that removed all the air from a place, but this giant was way too fucking big to cover it all.
What should I do? Focus on its head?
I needed to form this circle and I needed to make it as quickly as possible. How could i create a spell that created a bubble of nothing? Did I just need to make it push all the air away?
I didn't know of any runes with the meaning of nothingness.
Fuck. If I Had developed my darkness affinity… maybe…
<
<
<
Right, I don't need to create nothingness. I just need to make it a limited supply.
That was way easier, and it was a spell I already knew.
We fucking use this spell to go fishing underwater hahahaha.
"Hali I'm ready! Push everything out! NOW!"
Not even a second after my order was given, a huge wave was rushing towards the fire giant. The bastard was already casting fire balls to destroy the water and that was the moment I needed to cast my own spell.
Air mask.
A wind sphere materialised on the giant's face, effectively sealing the outside from the inside.
Fire is ever changing, consuming and beautifully easy. Dimitris was right.
The spell was not even something special, but it was a big enough distraction to make the wave connect.
The fire was almost put out and Hali didn't miss the chance to use her sword art.
A huge hole was now present on the stomach of the beast, flames started to dance around healing him, but soon after, the monster started to squirm.
"Let's finish Sarah."
Hali and I turned to go finish our business, but what we soon realised we could do it.
Dimitris was standing in front of her. Gently patting the wings of a butterfly while the rest of his flutter was feasting on the screaming Sarah.
