Crimes of transmigration

Chapter 66: Truth and Ideals

My fists connected on Basil's back like an hammer on its anvil. Lightning coursed from my hands to his body making him shoot towards the ground like a meteorite. At that moment I felt it.

Fuck, my body is still too weak.

My hands were broken.

Basil's body reached the web of waterways in a heartbeat, the rain I had previously caused had drenched our enemies who were now subjected to the current running in waters directly in their bodies.

It wasn't enough to actually kill the bastards, but it sure gave use an upper hand in this confrontation. I quickly went back landing at Odysseus' side. My crown barely visible since I was giving the spell the bare minimum Archana.

"Are you ok?"

I shook my head and put my hands up.

"I shattered my hands, but this crown should heal me quickly enough."

Odysseus' face darkened and he shifted his gaze forward before starting to give orders once again. The arrows shot by Juna became ever more vicious, Yudher increased his casting speed, Hali left Odysseus side and joined Aaron in the vanguard. Her sword seemed even more dangerous then usual.

Everything was starting to tilt in our favour, but I was still worried about the mage and the allegedly runeless magic circle.

"Odysseus, that mage used a spell without runes."

He flinched at my comment, but quickly composed himself.

"I guess Merlin didn't tell you. Spells without runes in their circle do exist, but it is a taboo for mages to use them."

I shut my mouth and waited for him to continue. Why would the runeless circles be taboo? That spell was clearly stronger then normal, had I not tinkered with my Archana I was sure I'd be dead.

"Truth be told, we are not sure when runes were introduced in magic, it was also becaus mortals couldn't always use magic. Sure mana existed, but records of mages are more recent then you think Dimitris."

"…"

"There is however a common saying everyone is taught since they were kids: runes save the mortals from magic, magic without runes is not for mortals."

"Then how the fuck did that mage use that spell and is still alive?"

"Did you disturb the spell with your Archana?"

I nodded absentmindedly, so what? The spell still materialised.

"I'm not sure myself, but mortals can't use Archana, right? I mean, we are demigods."

That was true, I honestly didn't even consider the fact, it was just a trait, but I didn't feel much different then before. Odysseus stopped my train of thoughts and brought up something.

"I guess we'll find out."

He pointed at the mage supplying their spell with mana and I could feel the same runeless circle as before.

"Hali, Aaron fall back! Mr and Mrs Damocles, come here!"

He just watched as everyone moved to our location, asked if my hands were healed, to which I nodded.

"Dimitris, could you move us up?"

"I can, but I can't keep us up."

He smirked and I didn't waste anymore time.

Flowery disperse.

With everyone disappearing from their sight, the crazed fire mage started shouting, he seemed completely possessed and continued to supply mana to his spell.

"YOU THINK I CARE IF YOU DISAPPEAR? I WILL DESTROY THIS ENTIRE PLACE WITH LAVA! WHERE ARE YOU GONNA HIDE?!"

His maniacal laughter echoed in the forest all around us, crazed, scary, vicious.

He continued to laugh as if his life depended on it, but then he suddenly calmed down.

"You think those constellations you follow are your saviours, they grant you powers and ask nothing for it. But you forget they are the first to kill their kin."

He is not wrong.

"Dimitris Damocles, do you know how your father killed his father?"

But it was none of my business.

"I do, but I don't care. How is it different from what you are doing? What are you even doing? Do you realise the lives you are throwing away?"

"WE WILL BRING BACK THE KING OF TITANS, ONCE BORN A MORTAL AGAIN HE'LL KILL THEM ALL."

Was that what they were trying to do? Bring back a constellation to kill other constellations? How did that even make sense? What was even the point?

I was confused, could they even bring back the dead? Did gods actually die?

But I never had the chance to make thise questions.

All the mana inside his body had dried up. I could feel their circles starting to shatter, but the spell was continuing to absorb, greedily, even their life force.

Soon despair was clear in their eyes. They could sense it, the end was coming.

The few men still alive around them started to panic as well. A deep sense of dread descended upon everyone. We too, up in the sky, could feel the pressure and I understood why runeless magic was a taboo for mortals.

That magic was not made for humans to handle and even the lowest form of it was deviously dangerous.

The spell was completed, but instead of the eruption I was expecting to take form life before, tha mage's body exploded in a river of lava. Nothing about it resembled human life anymore.

It killed all its comrades, eating away their flesh, their lives. And when it was done, the lava started to condense in a terrifying form.

It grew in size, reaching 5 meters of height, arms just as long flowing with lava and fire energy.

This was way above our level. None of us had the slightest idea of what to do.

The water ways Hali and Odysseus had created before simply evaporated together with my rain as soon as its presence took form.

This existence was the definition of apocalypse, I couldn't even understand its strength.

Its sole presence rose the temperature to unbearable heats, if Odysseus hadn't deployed Aegis, I was sure we'd be already dead.

But the question remained: how the fuck could we survive this?

My Archana was at its lowest, and even if I could teleport us a few more times, I could feel this monster would simply reach us again.

Despair was clutching our hearts, at least until a message appears before all of us.

[!error! Beast above the level of probability of this current dimension appeared.]

[Beast assessment completed: fire giant, rank S]

[current limit set by Akashic records: B]

[extracting probability…]

As soon as those messages appeared, a black and white light appeared all around the giant. Hitting it, destroying it.

Time continued to pass, witnessing the Akashic records taking action by itself was a frightening experience.

Fuck, I hope I never see it again.

-soon after the creation of the time fissure-

Nebula: Olympus.

"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS ARES?"

"HOW HAS A SOM OF YOURS TAKEN POSSESSION OF A FRAGMENT?!"

The major constellations of the nebula were all berating Ares and demanding for explenations. The god of war himself, however, was at a loss.

Never had he given a fragment to any of his sons, sure he supported the faction creating time fissures because he thought it was a great way to dispose of the fragments more easily, let your enemy create it and than smash it. But things were growing out of hand.

He never meant for any of this to happen, surely not to take away the 3 strongest demigods present at the tournament.

Confusion was painted all over his face, and maybe because of this, or maybe because a weird premonition. The queen of the sky, Hera interrupted everyone.

"There is something that doesn't quite add up."

"OF COURSE MOTHER! I WOULD NEVER USE PERTY TRICK IN BATTLE."

She stayed pensive for a couple of seconds before finally making her decree.

"Let's wait sometime until my son returnes, we'll ask again later."

She was sure Dimitris would come back, that son of hers was a master of his craft, and his craft, was clearly to survive.

"It is also true that Ares would never shy away from a fair fight."

"OF COURSE!!!!"

Ares was adamant of his innocence, but while all this was happening. A single constellation had a joyful glee in their eyes. They had not been caught. Everything was proceeding smoothly. Soon after her decision everyone started dispersing and returning to their domain, save for a couple figure that encircled the real culprit.

"The deal was successfully completed. It time to pay up."

"AS IF! I will only pay when I know for a fact that the bastard is dead."

The figures, completely covered by shadows got closer to the constellation that now started to tremble.

"The deal was capture Dimitris in a dimensional time fissure, you know very well that was completed. Now pay, or else…"

Days continued to pass, the tournament had been stopped until further notice, but nobody was allowed to leave.

The tents in The Lightning Bringer's camp were eerily silent. What previously was a herd of prideful chickens following their hen, was now a wasteland.

A change and Andreas were sitting in front of Dimitris tent with the divine eagle, not even daring to move.

Their brother, the strongest son of Zeus in their eyes, had been trapped in a time fissure by a bastard from the the Boar who roars.

"Achante… I…"

"Let's wait Andreas. Even if we want to act, we can't declare war against that disgusting pig."

Rage was slowly building up inside their hearts. They knew their strength, they knew their brother's strength, but worry was gnawing at them. That's when the golden eagle spoke for the first time since Dimitris' disappearance.

"You must train. You need strength to put those bastards in their place. How dare they disrespect Dimitris?"

Even the divine beast had completely fallen to rage. That's why he started to train those chicks awaiting for their brother. As soon as he'd come back. Blood would be pouring.

Pig's blood.

Andreas and Achante didn't waste anymore time. They brought out the rest of their family, and all together started working out like true maniacs.

"Eurylochus, come here."

Merlin was calling for the captain as interim. Their route towards Delos was proceeding without any hiccups, but suddenly his connection with Dimitris' earring was blocked.

There was only one reason.

He was transported to a low, newly awakened dimension.

"Yes, grandmaster!"

"How long until we reach Dalos?"

"If nothing happens, 1 week."

Merlin's started to ponder, would one week suffice for Dimitris to sort out the situation?

Should I buy some time? I can't sense neither Hali nor Odysseus as well…

"Eurylochus, stop at the first island we see. Secure it and don't move for whatever reason."

"Yes grandmaster, but… why? Dalos is near."

Should I just tell him?

"The demigods' tournament has been extended, we can't really approach Dalos without Hali."

"Haaa, yes of course grandmaster."

Eurylochus left Merlin's study, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. He felt like danger was slowly approaching. As if someone important was missing.

Of course we all miss the second commander and captain, but it can't be just that…

Something was wrong and his heart didn't let him rest even after his usual gruesome training.

That night, something unbelievable happened. Something that would change their crew forever.

[under The ONLY housewife's decree and authority]

[to all the members of the Damocles family and those under Captain Odysseus command.]

[you are to chose here and now: rescind your contract with the boar who roars and there will be no consequences or keep your contract, and be exiled.]

[you have 5 minutes.]

That message was enough testimony that something really happened.

Everyone on the ship knew how Dimitris loved and cared for the queen of the sky and how she too reciprocated his feelings as a mother.

This only meant one thing.

Someone from that disgusting pig had made a grave mistake with Dimitris.

Eurylochus didn't even waste a second to rescind his contract, he too had grown wary of constellations and how they interacted with the mortals.

He thought that everyone would chose to stand by Dimitris as well, but that night, of the over 300 men in the crew, only 15 remained. They had chosen a stranger instead of the man who continuously risked his life for them.

That night, Eurylochus, Polites, Menelaus, Anthrax and 11 other men, destroyed every trace of those traitors and sacrificed all those bastards belongings to Dimitris' divine parents.
