Cannon fodder in the Interstellar

Chapter 231 - The Flower Protector

“Which matter are you talking about? Is it about the future second prince’s consort?” Hebrew Adam stared intently at Ruo Manni as he spoke.

Ruo Manni was taken aback by Hebrew Adam’s response. She quickly glanced into his eyes and found him looking at her with that inscrutable gaze that made her heart race. She hurriedly averted her eyes.

She was no stranger to Hebrew Adam’s gaze; she had seen it several times recently.

Previously, Ruo Manni had thought it was because she had said something inappropriate, provoking the second prince, and that he was displeased yet didn’t want to hold it against her, so he warned her with his eyes.

Ruo Manni felt that Hebrew Adam looking at her like this was somewhat dangerous, which instinctively made her try to divert his attention.

“I was talking about the Yunkai alien incident,” Ruo Manni said, trying to disguise her words.

Hebrew Adam’s attitude made her feel that discussing the rumors was off-limits.

However, as soon as the words left her mouth, Ruo Manni realized she had made a mistake.

Why was she being so thoughtless in her speech today? Not wanting Hebrew Adam to know that she had seen those rumors, she should have feigned innocence and ignorance, asking him what he was talking about, and insisting that she was referring to the Yunkai alien incident. This would indicate that she hadn’t seen those rumors, while her evasive response clearly implied that she knew about the situation.

Ruo Manni struggled to calm herself down and once again tried to change the subject. “Are you planning to publicly announce the incident regarding the Yunkai aliens?”

“Did you see the trending posts on other countries’ forums discussing you as my consort?” Hebrew Adam said as he walked toward her.

Ruo Manni felt a bit awkward and wanted to steer the conversation away from this topic, but as soon as she looked up, she found Hebrew Adam’s gaze firmly locked onto her.

She sensed a compelling intensity in his eyes, one that was almost scorching.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. What trending posts?” Ruo Manni fought to suppress her instinct to step back.

She couldn’t show any signs of weakness; doing so would only lead to an awkward situation in her relationship with Hebrew Adam, especially since they were partners—how could partners be afraid of each other?

The problem was that over the years, without much need for “pretending,” Ruo Manni hadn’t had to maintain her composure around Hebrew Adam for a long time. She felt that her ability to maintain a calm facade had diminished greatly, and without looking in a mirror, she knew her smile must appear somewhat stiff.

Although she didn’t want to step back, Hebrew Adam was standing too close, and Ruo Manni sharply felt her hair stand on end at the back of her neck. Her feet instinctively took a step back, wanting to put some distance between them.

As a result, Hebrew Adam thought she was trying to avoid him and reached out to grab her left hand.

It was the first time Ruo Manni felt how large and powerful Hebrew Adam’s hand was. She couldn’t break free from his grasp and felt helpless as she noticed how warm his palm was.

“What do you want?” Ruo Manni asked, a bit flustered, but as soon as the words left her mouth, she felt they sounded overly dramatic, so she quickly shut her mouth tight.

“I’ve downloaded all the trending posts about you and me. Do you want to see them? They all say that we are a perfect match,” Hebrew Adam’s voice was low, as if he were whispering right next to her ear.

Oh my God, he actually downloaded all the gossip! What on earth did he want to do?

“But in reality, you and Brittany Beery are the perfect match. Everyone in the capital knows that Queen Amber is very fond of her.” Under the pressure of tension, Ruo Manni’s quick reflexes finally returned, and she knew she couldn’t let him continue.

“No…”

“Hebrew Adam, what are you doing?”

Suddenly, a furious shout came from the doorway, interrupting Hebrew Adam’s words. Dean Atchison rushed over quickly and pushed Hebrew Adam aside.

“What are you doing? I’m telling you, even though I can’t beat you, I won’t let you bully my cousin.”

Ruo Manni shrank behind Dean Atchison, whose tall and imposing figure shielded her from view. She was very grateful for Dean’s timely arrival; her cousin always had a strong sense of chivalry in critical moments.

Although Dean Atchison arrived a bit late, he was still quite effective, interrupting Hebrew Adam just in time before he could say anything more. Ruo Manni could somewhat guess what Hebrew Adam had been about to say.

If he had gotten those words out, things would have become troublesome.

“Why can’t we just talk nicely? Why are you all fighting, classmates? Ruo Manni, didn’t you say you’ve had no time to practice lately and were feeling restless? You wanted to go into a dungeon tonight for a good fight. We’re all waiting for you in the office; why did you come to the lounge?” Hua Deli also walked over.

Unexpectedly, this brother reacted quickly and spoke so convincingly about something that wasn’t even true.

“I forgot for a moment,” Ruo Manni could only admit her mistake.

“I got a clue for a new dungeon. Who wants to join? Come over and discuss it,” Mina-Olli also said.

Although Hebrew Adam’s expression was slightly displeased, he surprisingly did not get angry; instead, he suppressed his emotions and calmly said, “Send the clue to me.”

Hebrew Adam seemed to have returned to his usual state, but Ruo Manni did not feel relieved because of it.

Although Hebrew Adam’s words were unspoken, Ruo Manni was not of low intelligence; she hadn’t noticed his unusual behavior before simply because she hadn’t thought about it.

Now that she was paying attention and reflecting on their past interactions, Ruo Manni was startled to realize how obvious Hebrew Adam’s behavior had been. However, due to their identities, she had always assumed they were just partners.

Years of partnership were not without significance. Ruo Manni was very aware that Hebrew Adam was a very stubborn and action-oriented person; if he truly had feelings for her, this matter could not just be brushed aside.

Right now, Hebrew Adam wasn’t giving up; he was just temporarily suppressing his feelings because the timing wasn’t right. Ruo Manni didn’t need to guess; since he intended to speak up, he would definitely find another opportunity.

Her original plan to avoid him was not going to work; sooner or later, she would have to face Hebrew Adam.

Since they were both classmates and partners, along with his status, there was no way she could escape him even if she ran back to Topaz Star.

Just like now, when the prince expressed a desire to participate in the dungeon, he was the president of the guild, and without a reasonable excuse, who could refuse?

Not only did Hebrew Adam want to join, but he also naturally took over the matter. Everyone was used to it; as long as Hebrew Adam was present, he would definitely be the leader.

After all, regardless of his abilities or status, even Hua Deli couldn’t compare to him, and everyone respected him from the bottom of their hearts.

However, it seemed that Hua Deli, Mina-Olli, and Dean Atchison had reached a consensus to always keep her and Hebrew Adam apart.

When they set out to tackle the dungeon, Hebrew Adam’s demeanor returned to normal, which made Ruo Manni breathe a sigh of relief; she could avoid confrontation for now.

This dungeon was originally designed for young practitioners at the late fourth level. Even at the hell level, it could be handled by someone at the early fifth level, and they conquered it in just over ten minutes.
