Chapter 42: ALL POISON
Absent-mindedly swallowing the food in her mouth, she grabbed the silver spoon, scooped the broth, and directed it to her mouth.
Tasting the soup, she put down her spoon and picked up another. This time, she directed the spoon to the king's mouth.
Thankfully, this time, he opened his mouth and ate the soup. She kept doing the same action and cleaning his mouth and cheeks when the soup dripped outside the spoon.
The bowl was still half full when he grabbed the spoon away from her hand and said, "I am tired," with a full-blown smile on his lips like a child.
Florah subtly let out a sigh of relief thinking that her nightmare was slowly coming to an end but she rejoiced too soon because in the next second, the king said, "Did you know that there are people out there that don't have what to eat?" He asked.
Florah nodded in agreement, wondering where this conversation would lead them.
"So we can't waste food right," he said, seeking her confirmation.
Florah nodded again in agreement.
Gavriel rolled his eyes at the mute girl, "A mouth's use is to talk, Red." He sassed
"Now, since we can't waste the food, we should give it to the needy," the benevolent king declared.
The hungry redhead aggrieved silently, "Yes, master." She said
"Now, why should l look beyond the castle when their is a needy person right in front of me." He said, looking at the girl on his lap.
Florah just looked blankly at the man, reeling at the fact that he had just called her needy.
Gavriel picked up a fork and put the vegetables on it, and brought it to the girl's mouth.
"You don't have to d..., before she could finish her sentence, Gavriel shoved the food in her mouth without warning.
Florah slowly chewed the food in her mouth, the flavors burst delightfully on her starved tongue.
Gavriel observed the girl slowly eat poison, and he waited for the reaction to occur, but to his amusement, nothing happened.
'So she wasn't a witch,' he concluded.
The food prepared was filled with poison meant for witches, the wilting stem. This plant had no effect on other creatures except witches, especially those that performed necromancer magic.
This magic was extremely powerful, and if wielded right, it could make the person very powerful, but if it wasn't, the magic could start controlling whoever failed to control it.
This plant only grew in certain places under specific conditions. The north had it grown in underground caves due to the low temperatures there, which were needed for its growth. It had many uses but one of the most useful ones;
Was that it slowly consumed the dark magic out of the victims, a few knew that dark magic affected one's soul, it slowly merged with the soul, where it could eat up most of it and control the victim or slowly kill the person, only the powerful ones who could control it were not harmed by it.
If this plant's stem was consumed in plenty, it could suck the necromancer magic out of the person, taking the soul of the victim with it causing instant death of that person.
Now, looking at the girl who was unharmed after swallowing the whole portion of food that was the wilting stem, he smirked mischievously.
He picked up more food with the fork and continued feeding her. He did it until all the food was finished.
But his maid was still fine and also gained a little more energy. He could see that she tried to stop herself, but her stomach that had been crying in hunger drove the embarrassment out of her.
He was going to grab the spoon next when Florah quickly grabbed it, preventing him from feeding her again.
"You don't have to trouble yourself, master," Florah said, and without giving him any room to reply, she started scooping and eating the broth hurriedly.
In no time, the bowl was empty.
Gavriel chuckled at how fast she ate the soup. It was almost like she wanted to die because the soup, too, was filled with werewolf's venom.
Which was deadly for vampires. He wanted to test with creature she was, but surprisingly, she was neither of the three well-known species residing in Zadroth.
A werewolf's venom was deadly for vampires except some purebloods whose healing rate was higher than others.
He wasn't affected by it because of his gift, but he had given it to the girl wondering if she was a vampire with a unique gift.
Now, he had confirmed that the girl was not a human, witch, or gifted vampire. All the more, making her more mysterious, raising his curiosity, which was very bad for the clueless girl on his lap.
