Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 404: Turmoil in the Sewer!

Alexei couldn't describe the tunnels' odour in human words; it was a mixture of chemicals, faeces and urine, a disgusting mixture that made Alexei want to vomit. He used his body to shield Marianne, letting her use his jacket as protection.

Their bodies dropped rapidly, his muscles tightening with each drop as they fell further and further down the sewage tunnels. The stench was horrible, but the worst part was that he knew this smell would linger for the longest time afterwards, not just for him but also for his beloved sister.

"Fuuuck!"

His voice echoed as the momentum flung them into the air from the long tube, but below was a fate worse than death. Alexei's eyes widened, seeing the pool of filth beneath them.

'Shit!'

He cursed under his breath, ready to brace for impact, but as soon as they neared the disgusting brown and green mess, Marianne lifted her hand, muttering something.

Like magic, their bodies swung to the side and landed on a stone platform, avoiding the filth to the right.

"Good job, Mari!"

Alexei looked at his little sister with prideful eyes, about to pat her head, until he noticed the filth... and stopped. She blushed while twisting her foot, embarrassed despite the horrid situation; Marianne only smiled.

"Brother, what is this place?"

"I'm not sure. But we'll find out soon, let's get going."

He put his sister down and walked towards the large pipes. Marianne was wearing a pair of thick boots and knee-high socks, so she didn't need to worry about the mess, but the area was quite strange. It seemed to be some kind of filtration point; the filth to the right went through different tubes before being filtered into various colours.

But before the two could leave the area, they heard a strange noise...

Rustle! Rustle!

It was coming from behind them, and Alexei turned around only to feel his hair raise on end.

"I wonder what it could be?" Marianne looked back, but nothing appeared, just the giant automated plant and machines that separated the filth.

"Mari, do you think we've been split up?"

The pair of siblings looked at each other with bitter smiles. They wanted to avoid splitting up with the others because they didn't know the way. "Should we look around?" Alexei didn't know how to comfort his estranged sister; even knowing he adored her might have been too far-fetched, as they never spoke.

Alexei wasn't sure if Nikolai or any of the women would be alright in this situation, but one thing he knew was that he would get them out safely. 'I promised him.'

With that promise to motivate him, Alexei headed to the closed room in the upper left corner, where pipes and strange machinery pumped constantly. "Let's find out where we are first."

"Ok, Brother!"

Meanwhile, as the brother and sister searched for a method to escape, Lunaria and Amphitrite found themselves in a dire situation.

The sharp pop of bullets echoed through the filtration room, the machinery shining as the bullets collided with the metal. From the moment they landed, luck wasn't on the two women's side.

Lunaria and Amphitrite avoided the pool of filth using their superhuman reflexes and landed in the middle of a patrol. Thanks to the chaos in the main building, it seemed they called for reinforcements even in this small room.

"Amphie, what are you doing!?"

"I'm covering you!"

Crouched behind a machine, the two held their revolvers, one long and powerful, the other accurate and fast.

Lunaria had been firing at the group of five werewolves, but they avoided each of her shots and fired back, causing her to duck for cover and growl in frustration. "Why are they so much better than the other guards?!"

"How would I know?" Amphitrite aimed slowly.

Bang!

"Tch."

A burst of bullets shot past her head, one grazed her cheek as she lined up her shot, barely reacting as blood dripped down her chin.

Then she squeezed the trigger, with a low pop.

"Argh!?"

One of the five enemies let out a painful groan as he dropped his rifle, holding his eye socket, now empty, as he died and fell. Lunaria watched with a smile as she turned around the corner and aimed once more.

"Why are you so crazy!?" Lunaria barked, her tail slapping the ground, shocked at the difference between her previous view and the real Amphitrite.

'I thought she was just some slut who seduced Nikolai... But the way her eye shines after killing is strange.'

"Focus, don't go for many shots, aim and choose one target. An eye that makes your stomach churn, their ugly nose that makes you want to rip it off." She pulled the trigger once more.

Bang!

Another one dropped, holding his throat as he gurgled, unable to scream "Hrrk!"

Lunaria didn't understand why Amphitrite aimed for their eyes... or throat, but she closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

'I can do it too, we must regroup with Nikolai and I'll have him repay me!'

"Doctor, may I inquire why you aren't in your lab?"

A low voice echoed through the diffusion room, a massive rectangle with machines that pumped water and filtered it of impurities before disposing of the impurities elsewhere.

"Screw yourself, Drao!"

Sasha's response was violent and feisty, but the men opposite didn't appreciate it.

"Oi, don't overvalue yourself bitch!"

"Boss only takes care because you're a little pretty!"

The men who worked for the scarred male seemed upset at her response and barked back.

Nikolai leaned against a stone wall, holding the gasping Sasha, since they fell from the tunnel, he kicked off the wall and landed safely, but a stray bullet penetrated her thigh.

'Shit...'

The male with a scar on his face stood with a group of ten werewolves. They arrived a few minutes after Nikolai, but through a massive double door made of metal. The leader's voice was hoarse and deep, like that of a large man, but he avoided entering sight. Nikolai could only see his scar in a fleeting moment.

"Sasha?"

"Ngh... it burns..."

Her face looked horrible, covered in sweat and pale as blood leaked down her thighs, but she held it up, using the wall as support. Her eyes were fierce as she stared at Nikolai, who held her up, "Please help me to seal the wound, I cannot regenerate with their silver bullets."

"..."

"Use my knife, burn it if you have to; just make it quick."

Sasha's voice was firm and full of hate, which made Nikolai wonder what these men had done to her.

'Their shot wasn't random; he aimed for her.'

Nikolai wondered if Sasha held more value to their family than he had initially imagined; his selfish reason for kidnapping her wasn't something that appealed to everyone, but now he needed to adjust his plans accordingly.

"Since these guys are here, the others should be able to escape more easily."

Sasha looked up at him with a flat expression, before taking a sealed single-use scalpel from her coat, "I will operate on my leg, you keep me stable... if I am going to scream... shove something in my mouth."

She was direct, and as Nikolai watched, he couldn't help but worry, since it would make things difficult to move after.

But he knew how to treat himself, so helping would have been easy.

Yet he didn't; instead, he needed to focus on the slight movements of the men who stood on the other side of the filtration point, although they couldn't easily cross. Nikolai couldn't lower his guard because werewolves could make the jump.

"Phew..." Sasha's hand trembled as the blade shimmered, approaching her pale, unblemished thigh.

'It seems she didn't operate on her legs...' A strange thought came to mind as the blade pressed into flesh; crimson bubbles formed on the steel.

Her face twisted with pain, teeth sinking into his offered arm while she dug through her leg. Nikolai felt as though he heard bones crunch, and it made him cringe as she dug deeper.

"Listen here, Sasha, if you return now, I will speak with the boss and have your punishment lifted."

The deep-voiced male spoke again; it seemed he held some special feelings towards the woman in Nikolai's arms. Their movements halted after the first shot, as if waiting for her to weaken enough to be hunted with ease.

"Ngh.... Grr!!....Fcker...!"

Sasha's teeth ground on Nikolai's arm as she gouged the bullet, a wet, disgusting sound as the blade cut at her flesh, and she bit down, cursing the male.

Clang!

A small metal thing slid out, but she continued to scrape, ensuring there were no other fragments, as the pain washed over her.

Tears streamed down her face as the lump rolled into the drainage. "Fuuuuuck me...." Sasha whispered in the most prolonged moan, her teeth released Nikolai's arm, with a silky wet marking covered in saliva and faint traces of blood.

"I can put you down and fight now, right?" Nikolai asked, looking down at the pale woman who struggled to breathe properly.

She looked up with pained eyes and nodded with an exhausted sigh.

"Please..."

Nikolai placed her inside a metal groove, her small body able to curl up inside it, away from danger.

He then walked away from her without hesitation.

"I don't like guns much."

'The feel of a blade sinking through flesh feels the best.'
