Chapter 15: BUTZ: Chapter 15
Hearing this, Kyōraku Callum paused, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"Sounds plausible enough!"
Rukia had known about Kyōraku Callum's noble status for a while. Initially, it had bothered her somewhat.
However, as time passed, she realized he didn't seem to care about the social hierarchy, and she gradually got used to it.
Today, however, seeing the Seireitei's noble district for the first time, Rukia was truly astonished.
"Kyōraku, you're joking,"
Rukia's voice dropped. "I'm just a commoner from Rukongai."
"I can't just enter noble estates."
Her mood turned somber.
"Relax, don't worry about it,"
Kyōraku Callum took Rukia's hand, pulling her along deeper into the district. They arrived at an estate marked with the Kuchiki name.
The Kuchiki estate was incredibly opulent; every brick and tile exuded aristocratic grandeur.
"Wow, this is extravagant,"
Kyōraku Callum remarked, walking straight towards the entrance. The guards seemed to recognize him and didn't question them.
"Come on, Rukia."
Kyōraku Callum took Rukia's hand again and led her inside. Rukia was clearly uncomfortable in this unfamiliar environment.
She looked around nervously, a hint of fear flashing in her deep purple eyes. The Kuchiki estate felt oppressively imposing.
"Kyōraku, let's go,"
Rukia whispered.
Kyōraku Callum gently ruffled Rukia's hair, reassuring her.
"Don't worry, I'm here."
A servant guided them to the main hall. Along the way, various Kuchiki family members gave Rukia strange looks, but due to the strict rules of the Kuchiki household, no one approached them. Rukia grew increasingly anxious.
"The Kuchiki head of household should arrive soon,"
In the main hall, Kyōraku Callum and Rukia waited silently. The atmosphere was unusually quiet.
"Kyōraku, can you tell me—"
Rukia's question was cut short.
"Then there'd be no surprise,"
Kyōraku Callum remained tight-lipped.
"But so far, it's only been a surprise, not a pleasant one."
Time ticked by. Then, a figure in white appeared at the entrance.
His handsome face held a cold expression. His slightly upturned hair was adorned with a star-shaped hairpin, worn only by high-ranking nobles.
A silver and white wind flower sash was around his neck, a black Shinigami uniform underneath a white Captain's haori. His attire was the epitome of luxury.
"Kuchiki-sama,"
"Kyōraku, it's been a while,"
Kuchiki Byakuya's greeting was unexpectedly cordial.
"Is she Hisana's younger sister?"
Kyōraku Callum shrugged, showing none of the usual deference towards the Four Great Noble Houses.
"Does that need explaining?"
"You wouldn't still be concerned with noble etiquette, would you?"
After Kuchiki Byakuya dismissed the surrounding servants, Kyōraku Callum visibly relaxed.
"You should understand the responsibility of the Kuchiki family as the head of the Four Great Noble Houses."
"Maintaining the Soul Society's—"
Kuchiki Byakuya tried to explain, but Kyōraku Callum grew impatient.
"Alright, alright."
"Let's end this discussion."
"I've heard your speeches countless times."
Kyōraku Callum placed a hand on Rukia's head, speaking loudly.
"Why I brought Rukia here should be obvious."
"You should know I'm doing this for her sake."
Their conversation had completely shocked Rukia.
Her shock was so profound that she barely registered the hand on her head. Her bewildered gaze darted between the two, completely lost.
Didn't nobles have a strict hierarchy?
Kyōraku Callum was a high-ranking noble. Why was he speaking to the head of the Kuchiki family in such a manner? Was this a fake Kuchiki estate?! And who is Hisana?
Seeing Kyōraku Callum's stubborn resolve, Kuchiki Byakuya sighed, admitting,
"I wasn't accusing you."
"But you should have at least sent word beforehand."
"Suddenly arriving and saying you brought Hisana's sister…"
Kyōraku Callum shook his head, sighing.
"You're clinging to outdated notions, you old-fashioned fool. You should learn from my foolish uncle."
Kuchiki Byakuya was speechless. He increasingly regretted befriending Kyōraku Callum.
"I should have stayed away from you."
Kyōraku Callum smiled faintly.
"You now owe me thirty-nine favors."
"Hopefully, in your long life as a Shinigami, you can repay them."
Kuchiki Byakuya sighed, lamenting his poor judgment in friends.
"Come with me. Hisana is resting."
He headed towards the exit. Kyōraku Callum, pulling a still-bewildered Rukia, followed closely.
"What just happened?"
Kyōraku Callum pulled Rukia closer, explaining,
"You actually have an older sister and she is still alive."
"In the human world, Hisana, your older sister, and the baby you were carrying died, and you ended up in Rukongai."
"But you know the conditions in Rukongai better than I do."
"It would have been impossible for Hisana to survive with a baby, so she abandoned you."
