Chapter 14: BUTZ: Chapter 14
Kyōraku Callum waved it off, explaining,
"Weak targets don't need Bakudō. Spiritual pressure alone is enough to incapacitate them."
"Only those who can withstand that pressure deserve Bakudō."
"And that way, the Bakudō won't cause fatal damage."
Asami Ryōko hesitated, uncertain.
"That…"
Clearly, Kyōraku Callum's explanation, however dubious, had satisfied her.
Just then, the system notification chimed.
[Check-in complete. Reward distribution in progress.]
[Congratulations, host. Reward received: Kidō Mastery!]
A massive influx of Kidō knowledge flooded his mind.
Fortunately, Kyōraku Callum's mental fortitude had greatly improved, allowing him to fully absorb the information.
"I've mastered all Kidō up to number 88," Kyōraku Callum thought, feeling confident.
"Plus, there seem to be advanced techniques like counter-Kidō and incantation negation."
However, Kyōraku Callum wasn't focused on his power increase; he had another thought.
"This makes my reason for joining the 4th Division even stronger."
Over the following period, Kyōraku Callum continued to showcase his exceptional talent.
While seemingly small achievements, they clearly demonstrated his rapid progress.
Shinigami Academy had a system for early graduation; students could apply once they reached the required level.
Kyōraku Callum's noble status simplified many procedures, but it didn't grant him special privileges; he still had to follow the established processes.
Besides, he needed to complete the two-year program.
Dorm 1.
Kyōraku Callum sat cross-legged on a futon, eyes closed, brow furrowed, hands resting on his asauchi.
Within his Zanpakutō space, Kyōraku Callum struggled to continue his ascent.
His body trembled uncontrollably, but he persevered.
With unwavering determination, his muscles straining, he cautiously lifted his foot, stepping onto the next step.
An even more intense pressure instantly enveloped him. In his current state, he couldn't withstand it and was immediately ejected from the Zanpakutō space.
Tick… tock…
Sweat dripped onto the floor, making a faint crackling sound.
After a short rest, Kyōraku Callum regained his composure.
"Two months, and I've only climbed ten steps,"
His voice was filled with frustration.
"It seems things aren't as simple as I thought."
"And, it's been a while since I received a new task."
Kyōraku Callum checked his task list.
[New check-in task released: Check in at Shinigami Academy for two years and graduate as a top student.]
[Task Reward: Your Zanpakutō's first Shikai ability.]
He'd initially assumed the task would grant him Shikai, but based on past experiences, he suspected the reward was more complex.
It might have a deeper meaning.
He had a feeling that reaching a certain height in the Zanpakutō space would reveal his Zanpakutō's true name.
With his ample spiritual pressure, achieving Shikai shouldn't be difficult.
So, what would this "first ability" be?
He pondered this for a moment, then shook his head.
"It's too early to worry about that."
"Let's take it one step at a time."
His limited training time meant gradual improvement was necessary.
"But it's time to fulfill a promise I made."
At the neighboring dorm, Kyōraku Callum knocked.
Creak—
The door opened, revealing a black head of hair peering out, surveying the surroundings.
"Idiot Kyōraku, what do you want?"
Rukia's tone was unfriendly; she seemed to be still sulking.
"I brought you a gift."
Kyōraku Callum wasn't surprised; her mood was directly related to his actions. During a recent art class, he'd mercilessly mocked her artwork.
Rukia had been sulking for days.
She sat next to him in class but had vowed to ignore him for three days.
Today was the fourth.
"A gift?"
Rukia's brow unfurrowed, curiosity piqued.
"What kind of gift?"
Kyōraku Callum opened the door and pulled her out.
"You'll see. I'm taking you to meet someone."
Rukia's curiosity was piqued, but despite repeated questioning, Kyōraku Callum remained tight-lipped.
To her surprise, they walked straight out of Shinigami Academy.
"Hey, where are we going?"
"We can't leave Shinigami Academy without permission!"
Rukia tried to pull Kyōraku Callum back, but her small frame was no match for him.
"If you struggle, I'll just carry you."
Rukia froze, seemingly recalling unpleasant memories.
She became as docile as a cat, allowing Kyōraku Callum to lead her into the Seireitei.
The thought of being carried and the potential gossip within the Seireitei made Rukia shiver. She couldn't imagine the consequences after becoming a Shinigami.
"Don't worry about getting in trouble,"
Kyōraku Callum calmly explained. "I've already informed the teachers."
Rukia nodded, still bewildered.
She still didn't understand Kyōraku Callum's intentions.
What kind of gift required a trip to the Seireitei?
As the buildings grew more opulent, Rukia's unease increased.
Months of study had given her a basic understanding of the Seireitei and Soul Society.
She recognized some of the buildings.
"Ryōdoji Family, Kuchiki Family, Ōmaeda Family…"
"This is the Seireitei's noble district,"
Rukia exclaimed, "Are you taking me to your family estate?"
