Bizarre Honkai, a Wife-Chasing Crematorium

Chapter 328: A Monster? Who? Me?

Theresa might be able to handle it... eh, Bronya remained neutral on that. She still needed to understand the situation herself. She also had to explain things to everyone and get Senti to come over and see what was really going on with Li Mo.

The doctor took out a stack of documents, handed Bronya a black pen, and pointed to the contents, saying, "After you've read this, sign at the bottom. Once you've signed, someone will take him to the psychiatric hospital for observation. Don't worry, we are a proper hospital. Our care for psychiatric patients is the most comprehensive in the entire Far East. We have dedicated staff to record the patient's every move. If there are any abnormalities, you will be notified immediately."

Bronya glanced at the documents, and seeing no issues, she signed her name—Bronya Zaychik.

Before leaving, she looked back at Li Mo in the emergency room.

She had a feeling she couldn't quite put her finger on.

"I hope everything is just because you're sick."

"If you're not sick, then the ones who are sick… are probably us."

With that, Bronya turned and left.

Half a day passed. Li Mo slowly opened his eyes. The surroundings were bathed in a soft, slightly pale light, and the air was filled with the faint smell of disinfectant.

He sat up and found himself on a soft, large bed. Looking up, the white ceiling was bare. Outside, he could hear the noisy clamor of people.

"Ugh… where am I?"

"You're awake?" A gentle voice broke the silence in the room. Li Mo looked toward the sound and saw a staff member in a white coat standing by his bed with a smile, his eyes full of concern and anticipation.

"Is this a hospital?" Li Mo's voice was hoarse and weak.

"This is the Mental Health Rehabilitation Center. Of course, there's a more direct term for it, which I believe Mr. Li is aware of," the staff member explained patiently, his tone calm and warm. "Don't worry, you are safe now. Before we proceed, can you tell me where you think you are?"

Without any hesitation, Li Mo blurted out two words: "Psychiatric hospital."

The staff member nodded in satisfaction and wrote on the file in his hand—Memory: Normal.

Just as he finished writing, Li Mo looked around and muttered, "This place… I think I've been here before. No, the construction wasn't this new back then… but the layout is exactly the same… It feels so familiar."

"Right, is there only one room per floor, and this building has five floors?" Li Mo suddenly asked.

The staff member silently crossed out the "Memory: Normal" he had just written and wrote next to it—Memory: Normal.

"Have you been in a psychiatric hospital before, Mr. Li? This is your first time at the Far East First People's Hospital."

"That can't be right. Don't lie to me. The Far East has a First People's Hospital? Isn't that something only Shenzhou has?"

The staff member smiled and wrote in the file—Cognition: Normal.

"But then again, even Los Angeles has a First People's Hospital. It's not impossible that the Far East and Shenzhou collaborated, or that the leader of the Far East decided to build one on a whim…"

The smile on the staff member's face froze. He once again crossed out the "Cognition: Normal" he had just written and wrote next to it—Cognition: Confused.

Li Mo lifted the pure white bedsheet and, on his own accord, opened the door and walked out.

He even closed his eyes, moving on pure instinct, yet he didn't bump into anything.

The staff member followed behind, surprised, observing and taking notes.

He had observed many newly arrived psychiatric patients. A large portion of them were forced into an observation phase because of a severe mismatch between their thoughts and reality.

A case like Li Mo's was rare.

It was as if his delusions could actually manifest in reality.

Li Mo closed his eyes, trying to recall his forgotten memories, but all he could grasp were vague feelings.

The suppressed emotions, the unspeakable pain, weighed on his chest like a heavy boulder, making it almost hard to breathe.

He had clearly returned to a safe place, yet his body was always resisting something.

In the midst of his confusion, a newspaper suddenly slapped onto his face.

Li Mo opened his eyes and took the newspaper off with his left hand.

Seeing this, the staff member immediately came over and explained, "Cell phones are not allowed in the psychiatric hospital. It's the rules. The only way to learn about the outside world here is through the newspapers provided by the hospital."

Li Mo replied casually, "I understand. After all, some sensitive matters could easily cause misunderstandings if exposed. But…"

"Why is my name on this newspaper?"

Li Mo pointed to the blood-red, crooked characters on the newspaper. They were two large Shenzhou characters—Li Mo.

"Impossible, right?" The staff member took a look, then took out his phone to scan it. When translated into Shenzhou language, it was indeed Li Mo's name.

A prank? But who would do such a thing?

Not the hospital, since from the moment Li Mo was admitted, no one knew he would be entering a psychiatric hospital.

Li Mo himself was even less likely. He had been cared for the entire time from his coma to waking up, with no opportunity to play a prank on everyone.

Other psychiatric patients? Also impossible. The hospital staff might have guessed Li Mo would be admitted and prepared it in advance.

But there was no way other patients could have known a newcomer would be joining their big family today, let alone know his exact name.

Even if some of these patients were moles arranged by the hospital to monitor the mental state of the patients and respond to emergencies.

The staff member quickened his pace, walked up to Li Mo, and asked in a low voice, "Would you like some water?"

Li Mo was about to nod but stopped himself just in time. After a moment's pause, he replied, "Do you have Coke? Preferably ice-cold."

"We do. Please wait here a moment, I'll go get it for you."

The staff member left quickly, not asking for a reason.

Li Mo didn't know why he wanted a Coke either. Perhaps it was his favorite before he lost his memory.

Before long, the staff member returned with a bottle of ice-cold Coke and handed it to Li Mo.

"Drink up, don't worry, it's free. All your expenses in the psychiatric hospital are covered by your fiancée," the staff member said casually.

Li Mo seemed easy to talk to, at least when he wasn't having an episode.

But hearing the staff member's words, Li Mo showed a confused expression. "Fiancée? Who?"

"It's that girl with long gray hair who brought you to the hospital. You don't know her?"

"…I know her, I guess. It's fine."

Bronya must have her reasons for saying that. It was better for him not to expose her.

Li Mo twisted off the cap and chugged the ice-cold Coke. The cool sensation stimulated his throat, incredibly refreshing.

However, a horrified voice sounded from beside him—

"What… what are you doing?!"

"I'm drinking Co—"

Li Mo subconsciously turned his head toward the source of the voice, but a strange sensation suddenly rose in his throat.

Nausea, revulsion.

The ice-cold Coke became hot and bitter.

He was surrounded by soldiers who had come to provide support, all looking at him in stunned disbelief.

Li Mo stiffly looked down and found that he was no longer holding a can of ice-cold Coke, but the corpse of a small Honkai Beast.

There was a clear wound on the corpse's neck, and dark red blood was constantly flowing from it.

Am I… drinking the beast's blood?

Li Mo immediately threw the Honkai Beast in his hand away and turned to explain to the others, "I thought this was Coke! I wasn't drinking blood!"

As soon as he finished speaking, several soldiers stepped forward, put movement-restraining devices on him, and pushed his head down as they led him toward the base.

"Whether you were or not is for the medical department to decide. Relax, you're just too tired and had a hallucination."

Li Mo was taken back to the base for an examination.

The results showed no problems, but Li Mo was still looked at with strange eyes.

After some questioning, he found his room.

At night, Li Mo tried to return to the world where Bronya existed, but he couldn't.

No matter how awake he was or how much he hurt himself, he couldn't go back.

It was as if this was the real world, and the world where Bronya existed was just a beautiful delusion.

"Survive."

Li Mo clenched his fists and said to himself with a determined tone.

Whether in that peaceful world or this chaotic one, survival was his primary goal.

He had to survive, no matter the cost…

He had to survive…

Only then could he…

"Could I what?"

Li Mo stood rooted to the spot, his thoughts in a deadlock. It seemed he had been spacing out a lot lately.

He would freeze up at the drop of a hat, like a game that had disconnected.

Li Mo shook his head, pulled the covers over himself, and looked at tomorrow's mission.

Through various information channels on his phone, he had a rough understanding of the natural disasters called "Honkai" that frequently erupted in this world.

Natural disasters were one of their manifestations.

There were also creatures like Honkai Beasts and Deadmen, and… Herrschers.

Deadmen were humans whose minds had been eroded by Honkai Energy. Honkai Beasts were the beasts he had seen before. Powerful Honkai Beasts could even destroy an entire city on their own, something that was absolutely impossible for an individual to fight.

Of course, there were also weaker types of Honkai Beasts, like the Chariot-class Honkai Beast he had been holding today.

The most special were the Herrschers, who possessed human intelligence but had an innate malice toward humanity.

Each Herrscher had a special authority and was extremely dangerous.

Li Mo stared at the four bolded, red characters for "extremely dangerous" and muttered, "If I meet a Herrscher, I run. Surviving is the most important thing. But… once a Herrscher appears, even running seems to become a luxury. I can only pray I don't meet one tomorrow."

Li Mo turned off his phone and closed his eyes to sleep.

Perhaps a good night's sleep would let him return to Bronya's world. Even if it didn't, he could rest and recuperate to face the hidden dangers of tomorrow's mission.

Half a day later—

Facing a tide of Honkai Beasts that blotted out the sun, even with the most advanced weapons and equipment, one could only become a speck of dust crushed in the tide.

Screams and wails echoed endlessly in his ears, and then… it was his turn.

"I can't die, I can't die here!"

Li Mo raised his gun, aimed at the advancing Honkai Beast tide, and fired continuously.

But even after emptying his magazine, not a single one died.

He couldn't even delay them for a second.

The Honkai Beast tide was upon him. The raised giant foot cast a deep shadow, blocking the dawn light from the sky.

Li Mo gritted his teeth, threw away his weapon, and supported himself with his hands the moment the Honkai Beast came down. His left fingers pierced through the silicon-based armor that even bullets couldn't break.

"You all, die for me!"

He used all his strength to grab the Honkai Beast and use it as a shield to sweep around.

Instantly, flesh and blood splattered everywhere. More and more Honkai Beast corpses piled up.

This action left Li Mo's teammates dumbfounded.

"What is he… doing?"

"This guy… can lift an Emperor-class Honkai Beast. Is he even human?"

"I think this is the freak who was drinking Honkai Beast blood yesterday."

"Does drinking Honkai Beast blood have this effect? Why did previous experiments show it only increases Honkai Energy erosion and has no benefits for the body?"

"Regardless, now is the best chance to counterattack. We absolutely cannot let the Honkai Beasts enter the base!"

More and more soldiers, taking advantage of Li Mo's frenzy, threw themselves into the battlefield.

Even Li Mo himself didn't know where he got so much strength. He just wanted to live.

Just supporting himself had already exhausted all his strength, yet he could lift it.

Just lifting it was already incredible, yet he could grab it and swing it around.

What kind of monster am I…?

Human or monster, as long as I can survive, anything goes!

Li Mo didn't stop. With such a massive beast tide, he could only kill them all. If he showed any weakness and let them catch their breath, he would be the one to die.

With this thought, Li Mo showed no mercy, swinging the Emperor-class Honkai Beast around.

Until—

"Stop, Li Mo, stop!"

The doctor's voice instantly dissipated most of Li Mo's will to fight.

Li Mo stiffly turned his head and looked at the Emperor-class Honkai Beast he was holding. He found that it was a living person, wearing a white patient gown—a fellow patient from the psychiatric hospital.

At this moment, he was holding him tightly, smashing all the surrounding patients to the ground.

"The tranquilizer is here! Just one shot and it'll be fine! Nothing will happen!"

Several security guards and doctors came forward, trying to restrain Li Mo.

The moment Li Mo stopped, a severed hand flew past his eyes.

"Huh?"

Li Mo was stunned. He looked in the opposite direction from where the arm had come and saw a teammate who hadn't noticed he had stopped. The teammate had charged into the fray and had half his body bitten off and his arm torn off by a Honkai Beast.

"What are you doing?! Don't stop! All our lives are in your hands! If you stop, we'll all die!!" the soldier roared at Li Mo, his voice filled with anguish.

"Don't move! After this shot, everything will be fine! Trust us, trust the doctor!" the staff from the psychiatric hospital soothed.

"Don't stop!"

"Calm down…"

"Hurry!"

"Trust us…"

On the battlefield, the dazed Li Mo was caught off guard by the Emperor-class Honkai Beast, which backhanded him into the ground.

His powerful physique saved him from instant death, but the nearby Emperor-class Honkai Beast lowered its head and swung its surrounding light blades toward the center of Li Mo's head.

In the psychiatric hospital, the dazed Li Mo was pinned to the ground by security guards. They rolled up his sleeve, and the tranquilizer was injected into his vein.

On one side were the desperate wails of his teammates; on the other were the pained grimaces of his fellow patients.

Li Mo bit his lip, broke free from the restraints, and burst out of the ground.
