Chapter 28: Chapter 28: "The Weight of Flames"
The classroom buzzed with excitement as students still reeled from the Grand Ranking Trials. Conversations about the final battle, training tactics, and heroic moments echoed through the halls.
But not for Show.
He sat near the window, his crimson eyes fixed on the distance. His fingers unconsciously grazed the pendant around his neck—the last trace of a family he never knew. Victory hadn't brought him peace. Only more questions.
Professor Eldren, pacing at the front of the class, noticed Show's silence.
"Show!" he barked.
But then... paused. A memory flickered in his mind—Principal Alden's voice, serious and unwavering:
> "Don't push that boy too hard, Eldren. Not yet. He's carrying more than we know."
Eldren exhaled sharply, then said, "Show, outside. Now."
---
Outside the classroom.
The hallway was quiet. Eldren leaned against the wall, arms crossed.
"You've been out of focus. Care to explain why?"
At first, Show remained silent. But something in Eldren's calm gaze cracked him.
"I didn't ask for this," Show muttered. "I didn't ask to be some 'chosen one' or to fight some evil cult. I just... wanted to find out who I am."
His voice rose, raw with emotion.
"I never even knew my parents. All I have is this stupid pendant and questions no one can answer. All I ever wanted was a normal life! Not this chaos... not this burden!"
Eldren stared at him for a long moment. Then, without a word, stepped aside.
And there stood Principal Alden.
He placed a hand gently on Show's shoulder.
"You'll find your answers, Show. But not by running from your fate. Sometimes, destiny doesn't choose the strong—it chooses the ones who can endure."
Alden gave him a moment, then turned toward the classroom door.
---
Inside the classroom.
All chatter stopped as Alden entered. His presence was like a silent command—every student sat straighter.
With folded arms and a grim tone, he spoke:
> "Students... it's time we stop pretending we're safe behind these academy walls. We've seen the Dark Order's pawns. Now, we prepare for the ones who pull the strings."
Whispers stirred through the class.
> "A team has been identified. Their name is Team Gamaron. And we believe they are after something ancient… something buried within the Ignion Ruins."
His eyes scanned the room, resting momentarily on Show, then Drake, Raelyn, Karen, and Lyra.
> "Prepare yourselves. The next mission will not be a trial. It will be war."
---
To be continued...
