Chapter 10: Ch 10: Nightmare_3
City Police Station… 20:15PM
"Heehoooo… finally!" Officer Marcus shouted, bursting with excitement. The other officers, startled, turned to look at him.
"What happened, Unit Captain Marcus?" one officer from his team asked, curious about his sudden outburst.
"A whole year… a fucking year of waiting…" Marcus was ecstatic, his odd outburst not surprising the others. Smiles spread across their faces too.
"C-Captain Marcus… is this the one we've been waiting for in this job?" Officer Kimot stood from his chair, approaching Marcus eagerly.
"Yes, Officer! No more petty tasks. We've got a real police investigation case now—a chance to catch a dangerous criminal!" Marcus began putting on his uniform, which had been set aside, as the others weren't in uniform either, dressed like office workers instead.
For a year, they hadn't had a single decent case—just lost items to find, domestic disputes to settle, and trivial matters. No murders, no major robberies, no kidnappings, no riots, no wars. TARCIA's peace had left the city police with little to do, making them question why they were even in this job and what their skills were for.
"Officers, tonight is special. We've just received a case—murders are happening at City Hospital. It's our duty to find the killer and lock them up. This is what we do!" Captain Marcus declared.
"Hell yeah… this is our job!" the officers shouted, buzzing with excitement.
SKEDAN's police station has multiple units, each with ten members led by a unit captain. Every three kilometers, a unit is stationed to keep their area safe.
City Hospital falls under their jurisdiction, just 2.5 kilometers away. It would take less than five minutes to reach, but Marcus had said fifteen to savor the moment and don their uniforms.
All ten officers put on their dark blue uniforms, pistols holstered at their waists, ready to move out.
And then a phone rang.
TRRRIIINNG~TRRRING
Officer Marcus answered. "Hello, this is SKEDAN City Police."
A terrified girl's voice came through. "H-Help… monster!"Marcus found it strange. "Monster!!?....Can you explain in detail?"
"Arggggaaa… T-The monster… it's eating my husband… h-help me!" she cried.
Marcus and his unit exchanged confused looks."What kind of monster?" Marcus asked, but a loud scream erupted through the phone.
"Aaaahhhha… H-Help… Arghhh… N-No… no… aruggggh…"
The officers froze, chilled by the sound."Captain, was that from City Hospital?" Officer Kimot asked.
"No, it was a different call," Marcus replied, his happy expression turning serious.Tension gripped the team. They couldn't fathom what kind of "monster" the woman meant.
"Grrrraaa…"
A growling noise came through the call."Captain, something's wrong with that sound," Kimot said, the noise sounding animalistic.
Marcus, unnerved by the growl, felt a bad premonition. "Something very dangerous is happening. We'll split into two teams. One team traces this woman's call to her house. My team will head to City Hospital. Understood?"
"Yes, Captain!"
the officers responded, serious. Then, all their phones began ringing simultaneously. The officers pulled out their phones, shocked.
Each had a special government number accessible to the public, not personal lines.
TRING~TRINGGG~TTTRING~TRRRING~
They exchanged stunned glances, baffled by so many calls from different locations reporting crimes at once. They stepped aside to answer.
"Hello, this is City Police…" Kimot began, but a child's sobbing voice cut him off.
"Arrraaaaaaa… My dad killed my mom!"
"What…" Kimot's phone nearly slipped from his hand in shock.Another officer faced a similar call.
"M-My husband… he's trying to kill me… arghhh… save me! I'm hiding in my closet… grrrrrrraa… Nooooo… arhhh!"
"Huff… hfff… Save me! A crazy man is chasing me… he wants to kill me… hfff… hfff…"
"M… monsterrrrr… Grrrrraaaa…"
"Hello… I just saw a murder! Write down the address: 4th Street Road XXX… What… he's tearing open his stomach… what… no, he's eating his flesh … Oh my God… Grrrrr… He's coming toward me now… no… grrrraa… h-help… Grrrrr… fuck… fuck… Hfff… hfff… He's after me!"
Every call described bizarre murders—some callers screamed and went silent, others were running or hiding, a child sobbed, and all were accompanied by eerie growling.
"Captain, is someone pranking us?" Officer Mosko asked, thinking it impossible for so many calls about similar brutal attacks and creepy sounds.
"No… these aren't prank calls. A group is terrorizing the city. They could be escaped lunatics, serial killers, or enemies from another nation," Marcus said, deadly serious. He didn't believe it was a joke.
"Something's very wrong in the city," he thought, fear growing. He turned to his team and shouted,
"My comrades, a group is spreading terror in our city. They might be crazed prisoners, serial killers, or foreign enemies…"
He paused, then continued, "Form teams of two and catch these mysterious murderers, no matter how many there are. If they surrender peacefully, arrest them. If they resist, use your guns and bring their bodies to the station. Understood?"
"YES, CAPTAIN!"
the officers shouted in unison.
"Okay… move fast!" Marcus ordered. The officers checked their pistols' ammunition, holstered them, and rushed outside. They mounted five bikes, two officers per bike, and sped off to their assigned crime scenes.
.....
City Hospital…
"Grrrraaaa… grrraaa…"
"She's coming! Run! Don't let her get close!" Rosze shouted desperately.Lice advanced quickly toward them, her eyes glowing a deep, blood-red.
"T-This isn't real… it's just a dream… we just need to wake up from this nightmare… Hahahaha…" The lady doctor, Dr. Siri, had lost her mind, convinced she was trapped in a terrifying dream.
Believing she needed to face the monster to wake up, she stopped running away and moved toward Lice.
As the others fled, they glanced back to see Lice reaching Dr. Siri.
"Grrrrrrtttttttf!"
"No… Dr. Siri, get away from there, quick!" Dylon yelled. They hadn't realized Dr. Siri was approaching Lice—they were too busy running.
"No… I'll escape this dream… hahaha…" Dr. Siri's mind was completely unhinged.
"F-Find something we can use as a weapon, fast! Or she'll kill Dr. Siri!" Rosze urged. They looked around frantically, but found only plates and a few forks and spoons. There was no time—Lice was already upon Dr. Siri.
"Haha… now I'll wake up from this nightmare!" Dr. Siri's final words echoed as Lice—"Grrrrrttttt!"—grabbed her, bit into her lower lip, and tore it off with savage force.
"Aaaaaarrrrrrraaaaaaaa!"
Dr. Siri screamed in agony, but before she could react further, Lice attacked her throat. The brutal scene shook the group to their core. Their legs faltered, trembling with fear.
"Shit… shit… I'm not dying… no… my wife is waiting for me at home…" Dr. Torcose bolted in the opposite direction.
"Hurry...Run to the kitchen!" Dr. Bigbelly shouted, his hefty frame lumbering toward the kitchen, panting heavily.Rosze followed close behind.
Dylon, witnessing another colleague's horrific death, clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles whitened. He wanted to save her but was too shaken to act."I'm sorry, Dr. Siri," he muttered, sprinting toward the kitchen.
"Grrraaa… Grrraaa…"
Lice, having killed Dr. Siri, turned and charged toward the group.
"Why is she chasing us again?" Bigbelly asked, shocked.
"The virus… it probably wants to turn us into one of them," Rosze said, her mind clinging to a shred of calm. If she panicked, her own gruesome death was certain.
"What? You said they don't have minds!" Dylon snapped, furious.
"Maybe they have just enough instinct to spread their numbers," Rosze replied as they neared the kitchen.
But then, Dr. Torcose slammed the kitchen door shut."Dr. Torcose, open the door! We're still out here!" Bigbelly shouted, thinking it was an accident.
"No… I don't want to die… Dr. Dylon is infected too!" came Torcose's panicked voice from inside.
